If someone gets Dark Phoenix then she should be super powerful, but I think the main deal is Lvl 3 X-Factor more than the character itself.

Nobody has gotten into the lab to figure out the best ways to stop this style of phoenix play yet. What we DO know is that right now, its pretty ridiculous in the sense that its so weird and can completely change everything about the game.

I've saved people the time on chemistry, biology, and physics. Like I said, by committing her to a team you restrict yourself from using any Supers. So the other player can spend their meter pulling her into the fight and crushing her with anything really. Then you're down 1 character and have a bunch of meter that could have been used in better places. Teams with Phoenix have no synergy in the way they work. The other characters are more like pack mules there to haul the bitch towards the end. And once a good team is figured out how to fight her she's done. Unless someone blends Phoenix with Morrigan on her meter building assist. Then there might be something to worry about.

What is the best way to improve? Someone said do the missions, which helps a lot, but what are other ways?

Wong and Noel have shown that you can beat her, and further to the point there is a mechanic that people aren't using to pull the bitch from cover and beat her senseless before someone gets Lvl 5. Snap Back is one of the biggest additions to the game that nobody except for Wong seems to use. And it is THE way to beat a Phoenix team, because by putting her in there you're basically saying that, "I'm not using any supers. At all." If someone gets Dark Phoenix then she should be super powerful, but I think the main deal is Lvl 3 X-Factor more than the character itself. yeah i dont get it. the cornerstone of my team is my morrigan anchor, i use chris as a battery & chun as rushdown that doesnt necessarily need meter. if someone snaps my morrigan in and kills her before chris/chun go down, i don't get my super mad gay lvl 3 x factor fireball traps people still bad so far. six months from now we can talk balance and game mechanics, but right now, people bad

What is the best way to improve? Someone said do the missions, which helps a lot, but what are other ways? Pick a character you feel you're the best with and build a team/assist that complements that character. Get in training mode and work the combos, when you feel you can hit most combos on command start moving into training on live bodies. Do the missions and play a lot, both online and in person if you can. Hit up shoryuken.com and check their forums for a local scene or for people to play (and talk) with. I did this for mvc2, sf4 and mvc3. I'm not playing mvc3 much atm but it got me really comfortable with the game mechanics from the start. Hope this helps at least a little.

No. There is a specific mechanic in the game that FORCES your opponent into a character of your own choosing for the same amount of time as it takes to reset the assist. You can Snap out for Phoenix at the start of the match with any lead and absolutely crush her. It's a mechanic that people aren't using and apparently Justin Wong is the only guy that has his head wrapped around it. Lvl 3 X-Factor is the big thing you might have to argue. I personally don't think Phoenix should be able to activate it when transformed into Dark Phoenix, but then saving up for Lvl 5 would be stupid since it passively drains health when she changes. So then she loses complete viability as a character. If anything give her the same amount of time as Lvl 3 X-Factor, but the passive effects of Lvl 1 X-Factor when it's used and she's the last one alive.

What people complain is that it's such an uphill battle. She is not by any means God Mode but I think this is by far the strongest character I've seen in a tournament. DPX with Level 3 feels like fighting against someone using Gil is 3S. There are strategies and tech to deal with her but compared to what you have to do to beat hear to what she has to do to beat you... It doesn't add up. Personally I think that was breaks her is definitely X-Factor. She goes from 7-3 to 9-1 with X-Factor active. Also to comment a little bit on the WC/EC not to say that EC is better or worst than WC but judging from the streams I've seen so far WC seems to have a better understanding of team synergy in this game. Most of the teams I see on EC are just combination of overall strong characters without much cohesion between them besides spammable assists to get in or chip the opponent. I don't maybe just a thought.

Hell, if anything people will complain about Sentinel doing so much damage for free too.

Hell, if anything people will complain about Sentinel doing so much damage for free too. Gouken is imba? I'm pretty sure he's banned from most tourneys so... And yes, Sentinel actually is ridiculously good but he isn't imba, there are plenty of things you can do to him because he is so big. However, people will always bitch about him because his shit is so easy to pull off, air combo into OTG rocket punch into HC and it's possible to keep going for a dead character. I know most characters have deadly combos as well but they don't do as much damage and are generally harder to pull off. I would put Sentinel at the highest Tier but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's the #1 character like he was in MvC2. Every other character feels about even except some assists clearly are above others so there will definitely be teams out there that are strongest but in this game I wouldn't count any one out. I think this game will turn more into a skill game than MvC2 and I say that because MvC2 was limited in the characters you could choose. This game however, I feel like there will always be room to improve because every character has it's uses so there will never be a top team but I could be wrong. I'm loving the game so far except the online portion of the game is pretty lack luster. I would have liked more VS. modes than just 3v3, what about custom modes like 4v4, 5v5 or even 2v2 like MvC1, just to change things up. I'm also disappointed by the lobby, I have no idea why we can't spectate ongoing games like MvC2 had on XBL or why lobbies can't allow tournament/KOTH settings so that mulitple people can play at once. At least the good news is that it's a next gen game unlike MvC2 so we'll see updates and new features added, I hope.
