The above link fills in what the CPL has been up to for the past 2 years. It gives an insight into the business world, and it shows how much lying can occur in esports. For those wondering what the CPL is, please see: this wikipedia article.
An except from the article at complexity gaming (would post the whole thing, but well, it is their content): + Show Spoiler +All of this led up the the first outright lie that was propagated regarding the purchase of the CPL. There was NEVER a middle-eastern investment group from Abu Dhabi behind the purchase of the CPL. It was 100%, from beginning to end, a complete LIE, with every intention to deceive the owners of the CPL brand (at least, the other three partners were told the owners were included in this lie), the gamers, the potential investors, and the people at CGS.
+ Show Spoiler +And I continued to ignore those instincts...even when I found out that Mr. Valencia had stolen a lot of reports and information on the gamer market collected by the CGS marketing department. Even when I found out he was using trips CGS was paying for to try to make business contacts we would use later for CPL.

CPL did indeed lie and not pay prizes starting around 2007. However - did it create two dummy corporations to hide the actual owners? Or did create completely false press releases without even a single ounce of truth? Did its owners run another organization into the ground (CGS) while preparing for their next cash grab?
The new owners of CPL go far beyond the normal deceit levels I've seen organizations use. At least, it is all surprising to me, as even I was fooled that it was purchased by an Abu Dhabi investment group.

Well it's hard to say thanks to the recent economic struggles of Abu Dhabi.

Is the CPL still under Angel Munoz? I'd be so glad to see this guy go down. He was always an arch enemy to the broodwar scene.

Actually it was Dubai that was in trouble and Abu Dhabi helped them out. Abu Dhabi (and the UAE in general) are going strong.

I know, but it affected a lot of groups everywhere, it wouldn't surprise me if those investors were one. That is if they're real.

Why do people post without reading the article or even the spoiler tag samples?
As the article points out, there never was any Abu Dhabi investors. Bringing up their economic struggles is unrelated as investors from there never existed to begin with - please make your own thread to discuss a completely and utterly unrelated topic.
Additionally, as the first few paragraphs from the article points out, CPL was sold to Scott Valencia (the prior head of CGS and WSVG, and former CPL employee before those two organizations) - or to be more specific, sold to dummy corporations created by Scott Valencia. Angel Munoz is not involved nor has he owned the CPL since it was sold two years ago.

CPL's demise began with Nuccio's leaving, but it's no surprise that this came to light about CPL|Valencia. He was always a scum bag back then.
It's also amusing that Chris/Recon is posting in that thread, who I assume is Recon from cXg, another scam of a tournament. Maybe he's trying to spin Valencia to blame for him blowing his daddy's money? Valencia is more devious than dumb, but I think both of them are in tight competition for the biggest loser in professional CS history.

I can't wait to see the next part really. I wonder what'll happen to cpl now.

Because I don't trust coL anymore than I do CPL and you trying to dive to the bottom of this is about as accurate and useful as saying CPL isn't honest, which people already knew. coL is sometimes extremely knee-jerk and convicted in their views, and the article is an editorial by a former employee who waited how long to bring this out? So before you pile on the let's-rag-on-CPL's-integrity bandwagon, don't just take what people say as fact/lies straight up.

not like the article says anything anyway, just a mad woman being mad. You can clearly see it in the text her attempting to contain feelings and starting off article in a rather professional tone, well structured manner but ending it up with incoherent babble full of obscene amount of profanities. I'm sorry but a mad scumbag ranting about another scumbag isnt exactly something credible.

I've been to 4 CPL events (won over $3,500 from them, but later they screwed me out of $1,700) - how many have you attended to know about the organization?
The CPL has held one event since it was bought. That event was in China - guess who was photoed as representing them? Scott Valencia.
There is more evidence than one article, but I don't feel like wasting my time, so I'll leave it at the following: Who does one trust more? Tonya, who I have no memory of directly deceiving me at events and others semi-vouch for, and coL, who has a reputation to lose? Or a group that includes Scott Valencia who, as a CPL employee, stole CPL's Intel sponsor to create WSVG, ran that into the ground, then joined CGS where virtually everyone says he helped ruin that organization, and now has shown up representing the CPL at their only event in 2 years?

What the hell. I believed that whole Arab thing too...wow.

wow Kespa, WCG, MBC in comparison is so much better than this. Fixing the bracket so they have epic final to draw in more viewers? That's the lowest of the low in the world of gaming.
The incompetency of Kespa, wcg, MBC in dealing with some of the past issues they had, are not premeditated. They are just didn't do the right thing, hence incompetent as we look back on them. But this shit is so low.
