prioritise alarms over clocks and use jupiter instead of firebolt once you have over level 8 jupiter.
You will find that there are easy and hard places to level anything, and the harder places give better experience. There are also unorthodox and difficult ways to level that guilds work out that are not well known but I wont go in to that..
anyway..
SOLO:
- Stings (glastheim culvert 2) are better than alarms/clocks. And if you learn how to 'vertical firewall' you can mob. This is the old-school levelign spot for wizards and some mages. It may not be the most efficient place to level anymore though.
- stalactic golems + megaliths (comodo north dungeon) are nice.
WITH A PRIEST:
- high orcs
- turtle island.. I'm not sure if this is too old-school but it was alright when I used to play.
- the most effective non-secret ways of leveling are probably: anubises, majoruses, ice dungeon, biolabs1 and biolabs2. However these places do require some skill at this game otherwise you will keep dying (eg. if you are new to this game, you probably won't even make it to the majorus map alive, let alone survive at majoruses) , and if you were skilled you probably wouldn't be asking where to level. But feel free to try these places out and maybe you will get better. (There's probably some modern place I don't know about which is better for leveling but yeah I don't play this game anymore so I'm not up to date).
EDIT: oops forgot magma dungeon. That place is great too.

It seems like these are great places but as far as the solo places go, I checked up the hp/xp and geographers certainly seem to remain the fastest way to go (basically until 99). I'm one-hitting them for almost 30k xp. I mean, that's not bad at all. I guess i was just getting too greedy.

One thing I would suggest is get into one of those mid-range parties like ice dungeon etc. It's pretty simple, just ask what spell they want you to cast and keep doing it.

Don't calculate by hp/xp. It's not like there is no break between killing monsters. I mean if you 1 hit a geo, then your calculation is basically assuming that you kill a geo every 3 seconds. If you want to calculate, then do it by time/xp. Trust me, geos are bad. You only do them at lower levels because they don't come at you. If you don't believe me, check how much % you gain in 30 minutes at geos, then compare it with other places. Solo leveling is waaay slower than party, but uh whatever floats your boat I guess.

Given the amount of time it takes to set up a vfw, and the probability I'll have to gtfo if aggros come around, I still think it's faster! If I'm wrong though please tell me.

Geos are pretty much the best way to go up until about level 70. After that you can do moscovia dungeon up until about level 90. Level 90+ is either Anubis, Ice Dungeon 3, or Cursed Monastery 3. Good luck finding a party that will take you to Abbey (Cursed Monastery) if you're not trans-class, though.
edit: Also, going to Abbey costs either 250,000 for a one-time trip, or you can complete the entrance quest, which will run you a little over 3 million to do for unlimited access (2.5 mil for a "donation"; 600-800k for odds and ends that you CBA to farm). I believe the unlimited access applies to all characters of the same account, too.
