Thanks for the additional input Mogwai, guess I'll just hafta try a few both ways and see what I like more. I'll lean away from Sorc boots though, unless I get like... Annie/Fiddle/more casters or some nonsense as a team. Lol.
-----------------------
Okay, let's take a look at my build at ~7500 gold earned, compared to Mogwai's at ~8000 earned (he can have a bit more to favor his phil stone) to help simulate earlier in the game, where item choice makes a bigger difference. + Show Spoiler +My hybrid idea http://www.leaguecraft.com/builder/Amumu/503e6be0597b8536c18c465ae4a12abaMogwai's hybrid idea http://www.leaguecraft.com/builder/Amumu/6aaf4f4619cdd3b159f28152a1f60688Both of us went Merc treads in this example. I'll try to factor in Warmog's being around 60 minion kills in, and RoA being a few minutes short of being fully powered. Being realistic, I don't think I would have the 125 minion kills needed to fully power Warmog, and I don't think Mogwai's would have RoA for 15 minutes at this point. My build has: HP: about equal HPregen/5: about 40 per5 moreMana: about 650 lessManaRegen/5: about 5 per5 less AP: mine has sliiiiiightly more Armor: 45 lessMagicResist: 57 moreOther notables: Warmog will power me to being up an extra 240 HP over RoA, and up another 30 HP per5. I lack Sunfire Aura x1 compared to Mogwai's. I have the -20 enemy magic Resist Aura from Abyssal.
More HP per5, MR, and the Abyssal aura (mine) -VS- More Mana, Mana per5, Armor, and the Sunfire aura. (Mogwai's)
Whatchu think?

What's good way to build a fiddle? I've been thinking about buying one but dunno how to play him :D This guide seems good, but it can be quite outdated now, is it?

Maybe it's faster (~10?) at level 5 though. oh, it's 18 at level 1, -2 per extra level, so 10 at level 5. man the actual league of legends website sucks at having up to date info on champions :p so I guess I'll stand by my original skill build of eqewereqeqqrqwwrww.
Nah, go w>e later on. Especially since you have the ult and by mid game should be gaking with the team. My build for amumu goes from Regrowth in Philosopher then boots into Treads. Then I start getting items depending on what I need. Sunfire Capes are a must. Banshee's Veil is always nice if there's a lot of spells. Soul Shroud could be nice, and so is RoA.
I've been looking at items, and what about Deathfire Grasp? Looks like good synergy with Amumu, with reduced CD and the unique power.
I've never tried it, but has anyone else?

One Drain, mass Wind, and Terror.
I tend to see Mejai -> Abyssal, with Sorc Boots somewhere; after that it's just up to how the game's going.

Best amu is Jungle Amu. Don't farm in lane at all :D. I solo dragon at 6 minutes. And I really don't think philo stone is worth it. It's an item that becomes obsolete by 10th minute. For huge cost. Really not a fan. All the health regen regrowth or philo stone do, you can get the same by buying 3-4 health pots. 475 compared to 105-140g is no comparison. In general, I'm not a big fan of regen. It doesn't do much in team fights. Pure armor/hp/resist will be more effective.

care to elaborate on what item/skill build you use early for straight jungling amumu?

Alright I've been playing alot of fiddle lately so I'll help out.
Jungle FIddle: Summoners Flash/Smite Boots - Sight Ward - 1 hp pot (People love to gank you at golem so ward the river so it can see both entrances to it. If they come gank just see if you can take theirs, have your team come, or just wait it out) Meijas - Getting stacks is easy Banshees Veil - Fiddle doesnt need AP THAT badly and this makes ur ult that much easier to jump into a fight. Void Staff
Skill order: W - E - W - E - Q - R then focus E over W and Q. I usually stay with 1 pt in Q for awhile b/c the dps from higher levels of drain really comes in handy.
When i lane with fiddle I just open doran's ring and follow the same path. Basically go same skill order just start off with E.

From what I've seen, ghost is way more annoying on Fiddle than flash. Ghosting with ult is redonkulous.

Sure, I go Flash/Smite on Amu. Defensive mastery with all the specs for damage reduction.
Then I go hp elixir + 5 pots with W spell as my first skill.
Farm golem, use smite right away, get lvl 2 before mid solo . Take creeps below golem. Then go take ghosts with tantrum/W. Eat pots all along the way to regen life. After ghosts, should be level 3, go get lizard with level 2 W. After lizard, farm last creep below lizard and then go farm enemy's ghosts. After their ghosts, port back home for boots and more health pots. By then, your side's jungle should be back up again. Go take creeps below golem, ghosts, creeps below lizard. After that your golem rune should be gone. Go farm enemy's golem (without using smite) and creeps above golem. At that point you should be level 5 with WEWEW as your skills leveled. Or WEWEE, whatever your preference. lvl 3 W is a bit more effective in jungle imo and lets you take dragon at max earliest time. Don't use smite on enemy golem, save it for dragon.
After dragon, you should get level 6 for ult. At level 6 farm own jungle again, then go take enemy's lizard rune. by then you should be level 7. Level 7 is when you get your first level of bandage. Now you should have lizard rune + ult + bandage. Go gank lanes .
My typical item build on amu at this point is boots, heart of gold, and either magic resist cloak to make merc treads (if team is not doing well), or working on second heart of gold. I usually get 3 heart of golds and merc treads, then start in on rod of ages, followed by sunfires. This is because after about 10-15 minutes, Amu can't farm jungle anymore. He has to run around with team to tank and support things. Hearts of gold let him still steadily add items to his build and serve as a very respectable tank. Tanks should not EVER be off on their own farming lanes. That is really bad play. And so hearts of gold are very necessary for Amu. Also, at exactly 12:30, dragon respawns and you shuold take him again. Team should have wards up by then and ready to back you. Smite + W spell allows you to solo dragon very very easily at 12:30. It shouldn't take more than 20 seconds. Usually, team pushes top tower and applies pressure on their jungle to draw attention while Amu takes second dragon. Your team should have a substantial lead in gold now with the +1300 gold from dragon and Amu's ult in team fights.
After 3 hearts, merc treads, rod, I get either guardian angel or aegis. Aegis if team is pushing hard for the +10 dmg buff or angel if the team fights are iffy. It doesn't matter whether you go aegis or angel tho, after either one, sunfire must be bought. At that point, Amu needs to contribute some dps to tip the scales. It should be about 25 min by then. Before 25 min, Amu really should not be expected to run around doing hard aoe dps. He is there to use his ult, despair to counter their tanks, and possible ganks/chase with his bandage. He is not a dpser. Only an anti-tank at best. I'm not a fan of people trying to build sunfires early because that's not Amu's job. He's not supposed to run out and solo creep waves with sunfire/tantrum. He's supposed to leave the creeps for dps to farm, while he relies on early jungle boost/assist money/hearts of gold to get farmed. Remember, if your tank is taking the creep waves, that means your dps is not. And a farmed tank with shitty dps to back him is a useless tank.
The team should have a big edge because they have 2x dragon gold/xp AND two solo farmed dpsers AND a competent aoe stun tank/ganker. There really isn't a good reason to be losing, unless someone on the team dropped the ball. (Which ofc often happens with the horrible MM in LoL.)
But in general, that's my Amu build. Ofc the aegis/angel can be adapted. If all they have is a real fed twitch, well then thornmail/warden is the way to go instead of aegis/angel. If they have a real ownage ryze/annie. Instead of aegis/angel buy a banshee veil. After the 3 hearts/merc treads, amu's tanking can be built to counter anything. It just depends on what situation is happening, who is the threat in game. The aegis/angel are more for if there isn't any drastic imbalance and it's still a roughly equal 5v5. Rather than a team who had a really fed ganker and the rest of team is just so-so.
I'm on the fence about frozen heart because while the -CD is REALLY important, spending 1k on mana really hurts. And when it's an item that gives zero hp or magic resist. Amu's biggest problems in tanking tend to be hp and magic resist. His phys armor is quite fine because of tantrum + masteries.
Also, for those wondering about how I can do all this without any mana regen items. Well, simply it's the golem runes. I also fill my rune page's blue section with mana regen. I've never had an issue running out of mana tbh. Come later game, when the golem runes aren't guaranteed, rod of ages + my regen runes makes sure that I don't run into any problems. I'm very against chalice. I think it's a crappy item on him because meki pendant is useless. And taking up a whole slot in inventory for such a bleh item is bad. Also, chalice is bought very early when gold counts most, while providing almost zero combat utility, so overall a fail item imo.
GL HF playing jungle amu. It requires two competent soloers. But if you can secure that, well Jungle Amu takes dumps on people .

Oh also, I've tried playing AP amumu with rod/abyssal/voidstaff/rylai/zhonya and it is AWFUL. Truly awful. It was viable during beta, but after they nerfed Amu's ult and tantrum damage and buffed magic resist in the game, it is no longer worth it to play an AP amumu.
Also, AP amu tends to die. A LOT. Since he has to run in to use his tantrum/W to do damage, they almost always focus him fast. And since Amu doesn't have any escape mechanism, he gets shafted. This means mejai on him sucks. Hence, AP amu sucks because he has to pay a ridic amount of money to be effective. And since Amu sucks at farming and shouldn't ever be farming, AP amu is completely impractical.
I had a game where I had literally all the best AP items and wasn't doing jack shit. I sold ALL of it and switched over to typical tanking gear. 2x sunfire/thornmail/guardian/force of nature/ and utterly raped their team.
Although, it is funny to note that W spell procs rylai's when it's active. So a Rylai amumu literally generates a 15% aoe slow to everything around him when he has despair on. Pretty lolz to see and works well with crow/sivir, but that's about all it's good for XD.
|
hmmm, interesting, I'll give that a try next time I play him. Thanks
EDIT: also, Amumu is good at farming... but your point about taking away creep kills from your dpsers is completely right and why I'm really intrigued by jungling Amumu. I at least know I love getting a solo top/bottom with Pantheon when one of our dudes is jungling.

have u seen mah bear tibberz

i had an annie on my team last night who seemed oblivious to the fact that her bear tibbers was an AoE stun and just used him as a summon. It was fucking terrible, but I was Sivir so we won LOL

I love an Annie in my lane when I'm Mundo. Very likely kills -> fed Mundo and excuses to make horrible BEAR puns in all caps. Especially since at my level of play at least 3 of the enemies are guaranteed to be squishy.

Was she using the stun with his other spells, or did she just seem oblivious to her passive entirely?
Also, bad teams walking into Tibbers + Crowstorm two-second aces are hilarious.

I just tried morgana, super fun time! I like being supportive of my team so it's a great fit.

She accidentally stunned with Tibbers once. I don't remember seeing her stun with her passive in team fights at all, but it might've happened by chance at one point.

You should be able to stun *twice* in a team fight. That you don't remember her stunning in a team fight would require her to be either overly greedy, and die before she could cast anything, or overly safe, and not casting anything, period.
