super fun, has that awesome feel of d2, just legendary items dont want to drop at all Worth 20$ for sure, just dont expect some super competitive netplay, because its not there. Afaik mod tools arent out yet either, so if you are into that, you may have to wait a bit.

Yeah, I'm not too concerned about "competitive play" in an RPG. RPGs are like movies or books for me: an experience for a limited time and then I move on. I play FPS, RTS, or DOTA games if I want competition.

well, to be fair, if you expect tl2 to be like a book or movie, it wont work, because both tl and tl2 have pretty bad storylines, its just a game to bash some buttons and enjoy some loot, and probably is the best out there for mindless arpg stuff.

Honestly, I'm gonna have to mostly agree with paralleluniverse. You don't have to predict anything, just look at D2.

I think it is pretty fair to compare TL2 to D2 given the game style and developers. D2 closed Bnet is still going strong today while D2 open Bnet is a cesspool. Obviously there are still dupes/bots/hacks in D2 closed Bnet, but the economic system still works as opposed to the open Bnet structure which has been proven to be a disaster.

First thing that comes to mind for some reason is the large open area's. About 10-20 minutes into the game, after its guided you to the first town and given you a couple of objectives it sends you out into its first truely open area. Has a very classic feel to it, Giant open space packed to the brim with enemies, dotted with random dungeons and other random objectives. TRUELY random.

Second thing that comes to mind is how freaking awesome playing fire mage is. So far every new spell I've gotten has its own burn dot tied to it, so on boss fights or champions I can really mix up my spells and get so many dots burning off on them its awesome.

-Start with throwing down fire bombs (basically puts down 3 patches of fire that leave a dot on target and slow them down)

-Immediately after that I use pillar of flame, at tier 1 it creates an extra pillar for a total of 5, that all chase down enemies and have a chance to leave another burn dot

-Depending on the range of the target I'll either start machine gunning them down with magma spears if they are at range, or slap it with my magma hammer if its in close, both of which leave their own dots.

-If things get sketchy I can always spam frost phase to get away , basically a teleport (with NO cooldown I might add). Its the only non fire spell I have.

-Another thing I should mention, is not only do all of my fire spells leave dots, but there is a passive called "Mark of Fire" where anytime I hit something that is burning with another fire spell then it takes an extra burst of fire damage

So in short....fire mage is explosively awesome.

Oh, forgot to mention the newest spell I have , magma sphere , I think it's called . It's basically an explosion on demand wherever I click, Con - It has a bit of a cast to it, prolly a sec or 1.5 delay before explosion, so faster enemies are hard to hit with it , but Pro - With the way its cast you can hit targets easily that are above or below you or cornered, Its pretty kickass.

So well done in making the boss fights really. Now this is what a real top class ARPG looks like, not some semi-mmorpg.

It would be cool if you people stopped arguing about the economics and endgame of TL2. It isn't that type of game so don't try to make it into that. You don't see people complaining about the endgame in hots. It isn't that type of game. It isn't supposed to be. You think it is supposed to be that kind of game; we all understand that.

You don't need to post anyways. You aren't gong to convince anyone here because your opinion about the game is wrong. Clearly we have some other reason to enjoy the game that you don't see and you're just shitting up the thread arguing for the sake of arguing.

Just another Skyrim debate as I stated after you initial assessments way back when. Hate the game because you don't know how to enjoy playing it.

Woah.

Can people stop making things up about the games I play.

I never played Skyrim and I've post anything about it EVER. Do you know what I think of Skyrim? I don't.

I don't recall saying you've played or even heard of Skyrim. The analogy is there because people like you don't understand how to play single player games with mods. Luckily you stopped reading right after seeing that so you missed the point.

You said:

So where is the initial assesment of me, where you mentioned the "Skyrim debate"? And what is the "Skyrim debate"?

Then you say that I hate the game, which should be read as meaning Skryim, because that's the game you refer to in the previous sentence, even though I've never played the game. In fact, I have no real opinion of the game.

But hey, making things up about me -- everyone's doing it. Just look at BurningSera and Leth0.

Yeah. I couldn't care less that there's no economy or competitive PvP, that's not something I want. I'm much more happy that there will be multiplayer modding - which wouldn't be possible with secure servers, see D3.

HotS essentially does have a endgame. Ladder. Like an endgame, it's basically what you do after you beaten (or skipped) the missions. It's how the game maintains longevity: ladder and tournaments.

No. No they arent. When you can make whatever items and mods you want, there will never be an economy. You are misunderstanding this.

Right. I'll keep the story in mind when considering getting the game. A bad story doesn't dissuade me as long as the game is enjoyable in another way. I think I'm just looking for good gameplay in TL2, especially when playing co-op. TL1 didn't appeal to me but I think the co-op and improvements in TL2 will be good.

Well, the gameplay is really top notch, as long as you can withstand the graphics and you like arpgs, you should enjoy the game ^^ Itemization is extremely well done, which causes a lot of potential item centered builds and such, skills are quite fun and have some weird mechanics and synergies, boss fights are pretty tense and really good looking, drop rate is awesome, you start getting uniques from like lvl 8, which is around 20 mins.

I've been pretty unimpressed with Firebombs. The targeting seems too unreliable, and the fact that they generate no Charge make them bothersome to to use over spells that do.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Fire Blast only triggers on the actual "Burn" debuff (which from the spell descriptions is only applied by Magma Spear, Magma Mace, Firebombs, and Firestorm).

I'm surprised you haven't dipped more Frost skills though. That tree seems to be the king of 1 point wonders. Not just Frost Phase, but Elemental Boon (10% more elemental damage + 10% all resist buff for 1 point), Ice Prison (looks like Bone Prison from D2, except ranks only increase the amount of damage reflected back on enemies inside, so 1 rank still lets you trap enemies just fine), and Frozen Fate (for 1 rank, dying enemies have 20% chance to freeze 4 random enemies around them).

If you don't understand the analogy to Skyrim I'd be happy to explain it. You could just ask what I mean instead of saying I'm trying to say you hate games you never played before twisting my words for whatever reason.

Hate the game is referring to torchlight after the mod is released you say you'll never play again. You don't want to play ever again because you don't understand how to enjoy a game with mods, much the same as pretty much everyone who was complaining about Skyrim back in November when it came out. I will admit to ambiguous wording on that point which was misinterpreted, but I never claimed you hate Skyrim and you don't need any prior knowledge of it to take my word that it's the exact same thing that happened.

You're just another WoW kid who can't enjoy the game because you don't understand how to play it. You need to be spoon fed content instead of making your own fun which is what Skyrim and Torchlight are all about. If you can't do that you won't enjoy playing long term which is alright as well. The entire point of the game is to have fun however you find fun which is different for everyone. This is the Skyrim debate. Pretty much everyone who hated the game didn't understand how to have fun and everyone who did argued with them saying exactly what everyone in this thread is saying to you. "No end game content" is not a flaw in the game. You simply make whatever endgame content that you find fun and enjoy that. If you don't want to do this then you can simply play through it once and be finished. That is fine too if that is all you're going to enjoy.

Simply put, you seem to think that being able to cheat in items/levels makes investing time completely pointless. Some people actually enjoy developing a character and find that entertaining. If this isn't for you then you have the option to skip it completely. Don't like grinding to max level in WoW? Skip to the end so you can actually enjoy the raiding without sinking a bunch of pointless hours into leveling up that isn't fun. The game is whatever you make of it. You're too focused on what the game isn't to enjoy what it is.

Hey guys, can we go back to talking about the game and stuff, and not arguing about pointless stuff over and over?

Relevant: for any engies going cannon/bots tree, have you put any points in focus? Still unsure about how to treat that stat.

I see two major problem with the game :

- Targeting problems. is it me that am bad at the game, or does it have huge targeting problems when there is any height ? even when i'm on high ground i can't target mobs on low ground, my fire blast keep going straight and miss by going few feets above the monster head. mobs don't seem to have this problem, so when there is a bunch of archer on low ground it become pretty annoying.

- visual cluster. my god with all the skill effets, the mobs, the corspes and the items names (+the map because i feel its too small on the corner of the screen), it is sometimes realy hard to tell how many mobs are there left and where are there. fortunatly fire pillar help by beiing autoaimed, so i keep shooting in the direction the pillar are heading.

I'll prolly end up spreadin out some more stuff to frost, especially with those skills you mentioned, I just honestly havnt really looked to hard at the trees yet.

The firebombs are awesome though, not gonna say they are always useful but they definitely shine in their own light. It's great for tight corridors or hallways or aoe situations in conjunction with pillars. It's a great zoning tool I think it just takes some playing around with to get a feel of how its gonna land depending on where you are and how far away you are targeting.

Keep in mind I'm not trying to get some sort of 'maximized' damage build or something going on, I'm just playing around with fire spec because I like it so far and am having a lot of fun mixing up all the fire skills.
