Star Wars: The Old Republic, most eagerly anticipated Star Wars MMO since the last one, is now gearing up for closed beta testing, and the time to sign up is now.
Signing up for the Star Wars: The Old Republic community is your first step towards become a closed beta tester for the next big Star Wars MMO. BioWare wants active community members as testers, as active community members are more likely to provide feedback than dirty, stinking lurkers who lurk and stink. Once you've become a member of the community, you can visit the Game Testing Portal to sign up for your chance to be a part of Star Wars history or something.
Mind you there are no guarantees, but such is life.
Can't get the official news seeing how the website has crashed.

That doesn't sound very positive...
I'm eagerly awaiting this in any case, I don't think Bioware has made a bad game as of yet and I hope they make a creative and interesting MMO for once.

I'm really excited about this game. Even though it's a long way off I think we should try and coordinate which server we're going to play for those interested in this game (before it launches or rather be prepared). Also, seems like your chances for getting into beta for this aren't bad since they swipe the users in each phase of whatever they're testing for beta. I would hope a lot of people would get a shot at it in at least one phase.

goddamit i was going to post about this but didnt see that SWTOR was the old republic
anyhoo this should be a good game if they dont lose theirselves in all the voice acting. which if you havent heard is going to be incredibly prominent throughout the game. npc's etc
its the biggest voice acting undertaking that i've ever heard of

Every mmo I've played, I play with sound off so I'm sure they'd appreciate me in beta.

May I ask why? Sounds are pretty damn important in most games.

not in mmo's i turned off my sound in wow because it was too much of a distraction and it allowed me to focus on the ventrilo chat more.

Sounds are pretty damn important in most games. i never have game sounds/music on, unless for whatever reason i'm unable to listen to my music. since i have music on all the time, game sounds added to that make it really annoying too me, even if i lower the sound down. sometimes i might have vent on, and having three sources of sound would drive me nuts.

I guess that's why I never listen to my own music while playing Distracts me too much.

MMOs aren't very taxing so don't require sound. The sounds for attacks in most MMOs grate really quickly. The spells, the slashes are bad enough without all the "I can't do that yet", the ponk noises for clicking things, gold dropping, every NPC "Hello friend" the crappy music and so on.
The sound in MMOs just sucks. A lot.

Naah, in Age of Conan it was pretty fun to hear your character go Uarrrh! Yar! Yar! Yar! when you critted someone (not even counting the fact that you could choose your characters voice, unlike in any other MMO I know of). Also, there's nothing better than the sound of breaking bones in the morning, when you perform fatalities in AoC (ahhh, good times). But I guess that most MMOs don't really go for any amount of 'realism' in them so the sounds my not be good.
