Mystlord, i've noticed you seem to have a lot of Touhou pictures/wallpapers (looking at the desktop thread ..).
Where do you get all these ? I really need to get a touhou picture folder. Some guy I knew had 10gb of these.

Browsing around the interwebs... Danbooru is a bad idea. Too much NSFW stuff there... Unless you're into that. Safebooru is much better ^_^. You could also check out Kona-Chan for a ton of anime wallpapers.

Does anyone know why every game following Imperishable Night (TH08), ZUN has taken out spellcard practice, multiple endings and Last Words? Seems like an odd thing to do, introducing generic features that everyone loves and then taking them away. I for one desperately want a spellcard practice feature. It's so aggravating having to play through an entire stage just to practice a boss's spellcard once.

The guy loves to experiment. He does something different every game. Last Words were part of the spell card practice element. If you mean Last SPELLS though, then I think it was part of the "time" element that he put into IN. Last Spells can be easily abused for extra points, and it fits the theme of IN fairly well. Multiple endings... I'm not sure. Ultimately both endings were fairly similar, so I don't think that there was too much difference between them other than spell cards. Maybe he also had an extra character left over. As for spell card practice, I think it kind of ruins your stage runs if you practice them enough ^_^. Also, IN's spell cards were generally static and easily memorized/have a set pattern to go through them. A lot of the spell cards in later games also are more random than aimed/static. Frankly, most spell cards now come down to game sense to capture.

Multiple ending still exists after a fashion, not sure what you might be talking about there. No idea about the others though unfortunately.

I believe that by "multiple endings" he means the two versions of the level 6 of IN and of course, Eirin/Kaguya.
As for the answer, I'm not really sure, but from what I understand, Spell Practice, while being awesome, made the game pretty easy, even on harder difficulty levels, precisely because you could take one particular spellcard and play it over and over again until you can pass it without any problems. So if it took you 200 tries, in a another game, it would have meant 200 runs.
I suggest you try Shoot the Bullet (th9.5) for a "spell practice only" game. Probably the hardest Touhou so far, also.

StB... Lame game. I never really got into it ^_^. Might I suggest Moedan. Much more fun... and cute (if you can still find a working version).

So.... all (maybe not all, but like.. half?) of those doujin trancecore albums I have are collections of remixes of themes from some of these games? I wouldn't know where to look to verify this, but I think this is the case. o,o

That's probably the case. A lot of Touhou music can be easily remixable to different genres. Trance is no exception.

There's a group called "neet" that releases this stuff. It doesn't seem like stuff you can buy outside of comiket... mostly...

But here's a youtube link to a track from one of my favorite albums.

Yeah...Comiket is really Touhouket by now, Reitaisai might well overtake Comiket at this rate, scary idea.

Not that I've ever been to comiket, or really know anything about it other than

1) it exists

+ Show Spoiler +
2) I guess I also know you can buy a lot of doujin/touhou stuff there too. ~,~

Hmm .. This strongly reminds me of something, I'm not sure it is Touhou ..
Maybe an anime, I don't know ..

edit : I listened to the rest of the album, definitely is Touhou.

Also, the description has the word "touhou" in it. "~ Fate of Sixty Years
(Touhou Judgement in the Sixtieth Year ~ Fate of Sixty Years) "

Is this from... Phantasmagoria?

What do you mean that Reitaisai will overtake Comiket? Reitaisai pretty much is Touhou only isn't it? How will it surpass Comiket?

And @ Thesecretaznman. That song is... Pure... Weirdness... I couldn't recognize the original theme at all.

Overall attendance of Reitaisai has went up so steeply that some were speculating that one of these years we'll see it overshoot Comiket, considering that Comiket has over 25% Touhou content, not an unlkiely idea.

Really? Never knew that it could match the might of Comiket :O

Then again, Touhou is awesome anyway, but to be more powerful than the Otakus always seemed like an absurd idea to me... Until now.

Woa finally found this thread.

For touhou music, just go to www.doujinstyle.com There, they have all of the games and a lot of albums under the touhou music section.

They have some other stuff there as well (wink wink).

Glad to find some starcraft touhou fans

Missed, or rather, ignored the Bad Apple hype/bandwagon for the longest time, but finally succumbed and watched & listened. Pretty good I must say.

Anyone here every play Suguri? It's a bullet hell, not like Touhou though. I been so addicted to it recently lol. It's less about memorizing attacks and more about reflexes.

Not many videos for it, but this gives a good show of what the game is about. Also has PvP :D.

Suguri is great, but way easier overall. I don't think it qualifies as danmaku considering how you can graze out with very little penalty like that though.

Another video:

Based on the comments/tags, this is Touhou related. I still haven't played any of those games, but I like the doujin productions that come out of this. :D

Just watched that vid for Suguri, the annoying this is how little option you have for that last stage. Extremely hard to go without a sword because of the free shield being too good, and the only thing that offers anything close to good enough of a run and shoot power is the beam rifle. Earlier stages have funny options, but pretty much every stage has an optimal set of weapons that just makes it way easier.

Well yeah, it's easier, and who really plays with optimal weapons...? Suguri tends to just be as difficult as you want it to be. Still a pretty fun game to play, and as far as I can tell at least it's unique. Touhou still my favorite though .
