iounno, for some reason everything after 11 isn't as interesting. the characters and styles just aren't as fancy or interesting i feel. Like utsuho was very characteristic. Rin was kinda gimmicky (lolol stage 5 bosses) but still very unique. Every character was very thematic and so each boss and thier spell cards was interesting.
MoF was pretty much an engine test, and Virtue of Wind God is arguably one of the best designed spells in any of the games. Not gimmicky, but still very pretty and challenging.
UFO had lasers and more lasers which is cool for a bit, but the entire game was oversaturated with lasers. Except the Captain. Anchors was cool. Nazrin and her crystals was kinda interesting too.
Ten Desires is like. nothing special at all. none of the characters have real defining themes or spell cards.
I actually just quit out of th14 everytime on stage 5. It frustrates me to no end. stage 1-4 bosses all feel like copies of various other bosses.
Religon might be less immediately impressionable than elemental or seasonal concepts. Plus it's more complex. But perhaps the plot and the fact that game events are converging is something that was of interest. http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Symposium_of_Post-mysticism
I do agree that the bosses in TH14 seems a bit meh, but the stage levels seem to be well done Most stages are kind of meh/boring Like TH7 stage 4 is h;osaufhjl;sdjflkasjdlfksdfj sooooooooo long and rage inducing Most stages kind of felt like I was working through the stage just to get to the boss where it was finally "fun"
So in TH14 we have a mermaid, werewolf and some other "harmless" youkai that got stronger with the mallet thing So they are on a rampage with their new found powers? Or is it the whimsical just enacting youkai extermination for no real reason like they always do lol
But yeah I think having a cohesive theme and/or world seems more intuitive, but I'm guessing all the games do have a theme, except I just can't really see the connections between the bosses in TH14
Kind of why TH10/TH11 is nice in that there is a set world, you explore, not just some general journey where you kind of go around aimlessly looking for something (*cough* UFO *cough*)
On talking about stage 4, I like IN stage 4 the most
So Wrestlemania just ended and it's put me in the mood for re-reading Touhou Tag Team Dream. If anyone hasn't read it yet here's a link. The comic is pretty fun even if you're not into wrestling or the Kinnikuman manga that the series draws inspiration from.
One day, I'll read that when I get internet that doesn't travel at a caterpillar crawl ;_;
I've been playing the PC-98 games a bit actually and found them quite fun I like TH04 Lotus Land Story the most, but TH05 has 4 different characters to choose from :O Also I forgot, if it was Stage 6 or Stage 5 boss, in TH05, there were fucking HOMING LASERS And I thought curving lasers from TH12 was bad, but these fucking CURVES AND HOMES IN ON YOU They looked like giant yellow caterpillars :3 Also TH05 had a special music player, where you can listen to all the music from the previous games which is really neat
TH03, Phantasmagoria of Dim Dream is the originator of TH09, but it's even more confusing lol It has a lot of characters too, which was really fun to see in an old game
I kind of like the retro bit-tunes which is pretty fun and easy to listen too
I also like the songs from Lotus Land the most in general Some of the songs I really liked:
I think everyone should give these games a whirl You can always change the number of lives you start with and the number of bombs to make it a lot easier lol
There's still a few songs that I still haven't gotten to recording yet, but I want to polish them more to the point where I only need a few takes at most. Actually a lot's happened and I realize I Music Education wasn't for me, so after last semester I just sorta went poop and took a break from piano after practicing so much classical music every day. Obviously though that break went longer than I wanted it to.
Anyway I'm ending my 2 years of abstaining from posting (though I'm still going to stay away from posting on most of TL). Wow, it didn't feel like long ago. It's already been almost 2 years. But when I think of it, quite a lot has happened since then.
Ok enough blogging!
Haven't been able to keep up with as much touhou music as I wanted, especially since there seems to be a lot less music sharing than back then here But I'm still happy with every album that Yuuhei Satellite releases. Except for the occasional song I can just throw them on a playlist and listen to it without feeling annoyed or wanting to skip a song.
I guess I'll share a song I've been listening to recently. After starting osu! up after a long time, I remembered this song. Someone from here hosted it and we played together. The middle sounds quite nice.
Btw, I'm sad that atoguru hasn't made any songs in the last few years that were nearly as good as his older ones. Oh, actually I'll share these two too:
This one starts out with so much energy, which got me hyped up after being able to listen to something new of his.
This second one is quite adventurous/magical; the ending is so bright and playful.
Aojiru hasn't been arranging much lately with is also disappointing me, but he did give quite a lot of material here (8 minute arrange for the first one o.o)
OH how could I forget this one! Another amazing performance by nekomusume. This one's from TH14.
As usual her skill is stunning. As is the norm for her Assault Door's arrangements, there is a long finale. This one may have the longest one yet, starting the buildup 1 minute before the end. There, the calmness makes it clear that the end is coming, which makes it so exciting. The comments in the video immediately say "It's coming!" And I think this is one my favorite endings out of all Assault Door's arranges.
I ending up having so many to share, I now sort of question having shared that first one at all X)
This was the notes that ZUN wrote for the Extra Stage theme:
Fairy tale-esque and cool is what I was going for this time. Well, it's probably not fairy tale-esque, but it's pretty coooool. You have to dodge lots of bullets in the game, so you probably can't listen to it too closely, though. (lol)
LOL This sort of gets me to think, was ZUN actually any good at his games? Or does he just relish torturing others
Touhou 14.3 Impossible Spell Card was just announced. That is the actual game title. As with any Touhou game with a decimal, this game is full of gimmicks. Becoming a new playable character wasn't a big enough role reversal for Seija Kijin. Seems like she's become all the playable characters. Maybe not all of them, but a few.
Here's a video of ZUN and friends getting drunk. Also, announcing the new game.
Lol Arolis when you said the title, I thought you meant this was a video of the <Enter Spell Card Name Here> or hardest spell card in 14.3 but no.
LOL i've been taking japanese, so i can actually understand the video a bit; it's a lot funnier knowing what they're saying or the gist of it. It's so nice that ZUN has so many supportive friends and like Touhou <3
Hello New Shoot the bullet...with... oh GOD, OH GODDDDD. Looks so cool! Hyped up more than ever! If Zun releases this for web release on an official site, time to buy :3!
Just remembered this video, the editing is so godlike. I don't know, the visuals are just so dynamic and it's so fast paced and engaging. The music is pretty hype and touhou-style too. There's just such a big variety of effects and editing used!
