Savior isn't even in the running for "best player ever". He was washed up and slumping for at least two years before he finally "retired". His BEST year is lower than flash's overall winrate for his ENTIRE CAREER. "He played at a level that may never be reached again" -- god I hope not. Even B-team scrubs are now better than savior ever was. Wow, calm down man. Read these few things: 1. The author is not saying that Savior is better skill-wise than anyone; as you said, there are many B-teamers now who are better than Savior, which was why he was barely seen towards the end of his career. 2. Savior gave birth to the term "Bonjwa". His win-rate and such isn't incredibly impressive from some angles, I suppose. However, it's the incredible sense of DOMINANCE that created the legend. Savior was on FIRE at one point. Go check the MSL records, and LOOK. UZOO MSL to the Pringles 2 MSL. 4 consecutive finals, 3 wins, 1 loss in a ZvZ final. Then immediately goes on to win an OSL. You want to talk about "Bonjwa"s... Savior defined the word, and it was then assigned to the 3 terran legends preceding him. Add this to the way he revolutionized ZvT... and you've got something incredibly rare: someone who revolutionizes and DOMINATES at the same time. Hence the writer's stance. Anyway, I thought this was a fantastic article. One of the best reads I think I've had all year. Excellent excellent excellent quality, and a very very saddening piece.

The match fixing was probably just to keep up a life style he could no longer support when he couldn't muster up title after title

btw, just to add on. another reason why the break against the "Iron Curtain" for iloveoov vs sAviOr was also because of the army positioning. If you notice how sAviOr slowly breaks apart the Iron Curtain, it wasn't smashing units from one single direction. It was spread out, such that lings won't die too much from splash damage from tanks that were attacking the ultras. Ultras attacked not as a bunch, but separated. If you also notice, they attacked from a wide angle, from top to bottom, all spread out. Tank splash wasn't concentrated, which allowed lings to get close and thus, use the tanks' splash against itself. Brilliant article, this is a masterpiece. No one can ever deny the feats that sAviOr accomplished, and this article will shut the doubters up. Ma Jae Yoon 4 lyfe.

It doesn't matter, any day, at any time I'd take him back. Nothing compares to Savior. I can't help but feel like Flash's god-line is trash, because I loved Savior. And despite everything I still do. He was my way into Starcraft and that's all that matters. Ma Jae Yoon. You failed me. And nothing will be the same. But, what can I say. You were the greatest, and I can't take that from you.

Even B-team scrubs are now better than savior ever was. ... savior in his prime was showing dominance over his fellow peers. what he did in his golden years was what Flash is currently doing. Of course brood war evolved, but I think when the author says Savior was one of the best, he was referring to his [savior's] peers. You're taking Savior out of context and time period. It would be like saying boxer sucks because practice partners can beat him.

Anyway, I thought this was a fantastic article. One of the best reads I think I've had all year. Excellent excellent excellent quality, and a very very saddening piece. You actually have to be there to absorb the moment I guess. July was the first zerg that I followed with any regularity, and when July said that he was nothing compared to Yellow, I wanted to study Yellow inside out. What he achieved and what was said about him made the cause all the more great. But whenever I try to start off the journey by watching Coca-Cola OSL finals of 2001, I just can't appreciate the game for what it is. All I end up doing is judging the game with a modern-eye and laugh at the players for how terrible they are compared to players of today. What Savior has done during his peak was something very special, and someone who has skipped all the drama, the circumstances involved during that time just can't appreciate the full experience simply by checking out the TLPD statistics and watching some VODs. High calibre articles like these go a long way in capturing some of the moment, but you can't force someone to understand why Savior's glory days are so fondly remembered.
