Though it does make you wonder that if Savior understood the game to such a degree, exactly why did he start slumping? I can think of a few POSSIBLE reasons...
1. Loss of confidence - Losing to Bisu like that really pulled a number on him. To get shut down 3-0 in a finals after beating Nada a week or two prior in OSL finals on imba maps must hurt a lot. And it's not like the series was close - it was a total rape.
2. Mechanics - His relative lack of mechanical abilities caught up with him in an era where Bisu's multitask set a new standard and others had to find way around it, perhaps he hit a wall there.
3. Aging - There was a news article posted a long time ago on TL that stated more or less that as you get older you multitask worse and worse, as well as people who multitask a lot (i.e. progamers) lose their multitasking ability more rapidly.
4. Stress/fatigue - It's hard to be at the top for so long, preparing for such grueling feats that Savior pulled.
5. Money incentive - When he stopped winning due to some or all of the above reasons, he started matchfixing and that can kill your motivation to play. It's like playing with hacks on, inside you aren't satisfied because you are cheating your teammates, fans, and the community as a whole.
There are probably more but I already devoted quite some time to thinking these through n_n

Wow AWSM WRITE UP!! Cant wait for part 2.

My hero, the one who made me play zerg and broodwar.

<<33 this Article.
As someone who doesnt really let the "scandal" affect what i think of his actual play... this guy is a BEAST of a gamer. Seriously he is and will always be my favorite pro and my favorite moment ever in e-sports is when i got to take my picture with this guy,,,,
I would seriously give anything to see Savior in SC2. Would literally make me cry tears of joy. Even if he cant participate in GSL there are plenty of other events he could participate in. Who wouldnt LOVE to have this Gosu in their tournies?
<<<<33333 you Savior. Will always be the greatest to me.
There is a reason my sc2 and tl id's are Maestro. I know the max-fitching was wrong, but in-game this guy was a god. Totally my e-sports inspiration for life.

Is brood war a deeper game where more complex strategies are possible? Is brood war skill cap higher? Is WoL a simple and easy game compared to its predecessor? How was brood war at its beginning?
Im throwing a lot of questions out there. You see, Im concerned. I love Starcraft 2 with all my heart, but when I compare both games and the skill level involved, I cant help but feeling SC2 is a much simpler, pretty and shallow game. I certainly hope im wrong... but... am I?
It's harder and has a higher skill ceiling based on the interface and more soft counters. SC Vanilla is nothing like its Brood War counterpart, so the upcoming expansions should help, but I'm still on the fence. We got a ways to go before we see SC2 for what it truly is.

@count9
Well, there are still people that are dominant in the SC2 scene, the fact that there are dominant people in BW doesn't change that
On topic though, big hearts to the article, was awesome to see something savior-related without it having to be a full article hating on him >,>... Can't wait for part 2!

The Maestro played a wonderful tune indeed. Excellent article.

OMG! This is my top 2 favorite final edits of all time! Awesome writeup! I'm going to so show my friends this article since he plays Zerg.

Ver you are the man, I am happy this finally came out. I actually meant to ask you for it a while ago.

An incredible trip down memory lane... with great insights from a fantastic guide. Thanks Ver!

I miss the days when I was a huge savior fan. That's what brought me to TL back in the day.
Great article, so much nostalgia.

To be honest, I think it has to be the matchfixing mostly. Thought I hate saying it, I don't think he could have fallen so far with just a "slump." But the betters made a killing because people would always still believe Savior would pull out of it and would bet on him, but with inside information that he'd lose you'd make so much money.

The most interesting part of this extremely well-written article is how closely it applies to Flash. He's even criticized for the same things you mention, has worse mechanics than many of the players he beats, and makes the correct tactical decisions nearly 100% of the time to crush often superior forces. It's nice to see SaviOr being successfully mirrored, if not by a member of the same race.
Great read.

An amazing article! Thank you!

This is handsdown the best article ive ever seen. Wow.

Superb writeup! Savior is so sexy. He just straight up looks like a nerd slayer ^^

There are no words.
Sigh... Ma Bonjwa is quite possibly the most polarizing figure in e-Sports. His fans love him to death, and deservedly so. His peers respected him and knew that he was a genius beyond his time. But the taint of the match-fixing scandal is so pervasive that up to now, some people can't appreciate his gameplay because of what he did outside the game. Separate the player and the person, please, because you're missing out on so much if you do.
That said, Ver is a juggernaut of BW analysis. He's playing SC2 professionally now, right? Or at least competing in tourneys?

can't believe you're all falling for our elaborate trap, where we round up all the remaining Brood War fans and ban them so we can focus on SC II

This is probably the best article I have ever read, too bad any mention of Savior leaves a bittersweet feeling.
