-Your feelings on having fought Ma Jaeyoon? ▶I was nervous since this was the opening match. I am happy I have performed as well as my usual routine. Ma Jaeyoon is particularly apt with psychological tug-of-war. This time it also had much effect. But, I demanded myself (of composure) by saying 'same old, same old - only a Zerg, only a Zerg'. Self-hypnosis helped me a lot.
-Were you not frustrated having to play two days in a row. ▶I reduced sleeping hours. There was little time to practice. Finishing this week's Proleague without rest, I will then be able to relax. Still, it is better to be busy. [GomTV] MBCgame Park Jiho Interview "I changed all of my gameplay style for this league"
-You scored your first win after four consecutive losses. ▶Honestly, I really can't tell if I feel that good. It is depressing I lost four times in a row, but now is the time to go ahead with two win in a row. Lee Jaedong not having any other expansions after the frontyard, was different from the practices. Many puzzling thoughts crossed my mind at that moment. But, then I concluded that he was much nervous and thought I'd win. I really had put much time in practice, but the opponent was also nervous. I was able to win because of that.
-It is said you had practiced very much. ▶Until this season, I never did repetitious practices. But, this time out of avidity for victory, I slept less, and constrained myself even from going to the gym. I practiced over and over again with same style, and same build. -What was your reason for changing your style. ▶Recently, I lost so many games to the point that I can't conclusively understand why. And also, seeing my name at the bottom in various rank made me angry. I asked myself why I lost, albeit having practiced so much. So I changed everything(attitude, mindset, gameplay style), and I am happy for myself I have won.
-Your Arbiter was dangling in opponent's base. ▶The rally that I placed on opponent's base warping Corsair sent the Arbiter there. The minute I thought the Arbiter was out, I was dumfounded it was in opponent's base. I thought of using Recall at the moment, but did not utilize it properly. This mistake will not appear in the winner's bracket.
-You face Jin Youngsoo. ▶I will advance to R8, no matter what. Well. Here it is. I don't know if any of you noticed this of me, but among my scarce and random interview translations I do, I tend to avoid translating those from MBCgame Broadcast with my life. Boy, do I not loathe MBCgame(the station, not the team). With one exception of Lee Seungwon, the intelligent and resourceful commentator, MBCgame is really a joke. Yes, it's better than nothing, but damn do I not wish everyday that they can be more professionally structured and broadcasted, in the leagues they prepare, the same old boring maps they make, and the Korean grammar mistakes those so-called commentators make consistently for the past FIVE YEARS(eh, yuck!). But the worst thing I hate about MBCgame is their inability to make the progamers earn their deserved respect from the fans due to their amateurish broadcast. Think about it, if Savior had won 3 Starleague titles like he did in MSL, crushing everybody in sight, and dominating, would he not have been treated as the new Boxer by the fans, or at least as close? And, same goes for Silver, a 2nd place in a so-called major league, who does not get enough respect as he would have had, had he been in Starleague. MBCgame expects same effort from the progamers as they put out in Starleague, but returns so little compared to Starleague. As much as I personally dislike Savior(for I am July fan ), I want Savior to be redeemed notorious, and be in the main cover model for every single magazine there is in Korea, introduced in prime time news, and in newspapers proclaiming the evil domination of Zerg. But, no MBCgame had their last final held in some countryside Air Force base, hoping to catch a glimpse of Boxer, rendering the insurgence of Savior, a ridicule. Such Amateurism! It's like begging for publicity. Let Boxer be Boxer. He is in the army for heaven's sake! Rather, concentrate on Savior, and make that happen, you wimp!
OK, I got carried away. Gosh, am I not so frustrated with MBCgame. The last final, there were like 500 civilian spectators, excluding the army men ordered to sit and watch the game. And, they let some idiot steal progamer preliminary replays(the one before the most recent one). Now, that's MBCgame's pure amateurism, right there, (although we took delight in watching those replays ). Starleague made the same mistake in the past, but not as to this degree where the whole replay pack has been stolen. Oh, and that was one of the reason why SKT T1 came to the conclusion that they are to choose the league they want to participate in from now on; of course the Starleague. (Kingdom and Canata will join Starleague prelim, once they are eliminated from MBCgame sooner or later.)
Savior would be like god of zerg, and as much popular as any current progamer(if not overwhelm them) if he had done the same thing in Starleague(which he is more than capable of) he had done in MBCgame, Ah, shuck. I hate MBCgame period. Unless they fire everybody, and start anew with fresh legs.
Let Savior be the Evil Lord, so that all will either bow down before his superiority, or fight him to death! Don't make him a mediocre whore with stupidity. Please, MBCgame.
Anyways. So, all my blah-blah complaints aside, why the translation of MBCgame broadcated match? 1. To make Manablue happy, with the report that Savior finally lost, for once. 2. Hwashin is so dreamy. Drool~ Drool~
I couldn't agree more with you about MBC. However, Lee Seungwon is my favorite commentator. To me, his knowledge about starcraft is no match to any other commentators, even the ones so-called ex-progammers. Lee Seungwon really knows in dept what he comments; whether it's statistic speaking or strategy speaking, he always right on target and 'fits' that very game perfectly. Not only that, he speaks with great grammar making exceptionaly easy to comphrehend, keeps his cool, and has great voice. He is the sole reason MBC is still alive. Hail to the greatest commentator!
P.S- Oh, the new commentator is pretty good too. I can see how much he improved over a year.
Edit- how da hell did I leave this out: Thanks for the great interview! Great work. oO

He is one of my favorite too, and I can't agree with you more either. Yes, he is the only reason why MBCgame is still alive, and Yes, he is composed and accurate. And, also Yes, the new commentator is pretty good(considering he is an ex-progamer) with great voice, accurate game analogy(which is a given for ex-progamer), and handsomeness too.
With one exception of Lee Seungwon, the intelligent and resourceful commentator, MBCgame is really a joke.
I have always felt that while OGN had the glitz and production msatered, MSL always ran a better tournament with more interesting games. I still believe the 16 player method is better than the 24 player method (at least the way ogn is doing it) and I like the maps better.
That being said, you are right, if savior had been in the OSL instead of msl, he would be crazy hyped. A lot of that has to do with the coverage, with OGN getting the word out and fan sites (like ours too) covering the OSL more than the MSL.
big, Big, BIg, BIG, VERY BIG, THE VERY BIGGEST THANKS for all your efforts rinizim. <3! And this one made my day: Jin Youngsoo: 'same old, same old - only a Zerg, only a Zerg'
"I will come up with a strategy no one can even think of, with unimaginable amount of practice I will be putting in. I will climb up to R8, no matter what."
Lee Seung Won was also a map maker, I believe? His ID was CoolweN and I saw him credited for quite a few of the past MSL's maps. He sounds very intelligent, but I've always liked Chol Min more.
Ok, thanks for the interview and all but I strongly disagree with a couple of things:
1) There is no way - absolutely none whatsoever - that savior would have won 3 OSLs, he is just too god damn boring for that! Boring players do not win starleagues twice in a row.
Of course, this does strengthen your point that MBC isn't really worth as much as OGN in terms of achievment, but I just think it's unfair to say he should have the same respect as if he'd won 3 OGN titles.
He deserves respect as the worlds best player, but not the kind of ubermensch achievment that winning 3 OGN starleagues almost back to back would be.
2) The reason savior isn't god has less to do with MBC game and more to do with the fact that he plays sleeping pill style zerg.
Also, the maps.. the maps of MBC game always favour the bland, uninteresting players (nada, oov, savior..) whereas OGN maps are more balanced, most often leaning towards creativity.. Yes, if Savior did win 3 starleagues in a row he would be a god, but I don't think he'd do that.
Nada won 3 MBC titles in a row, and lost in the final of a 4th - did he go on to win several OGN titles in a row? No. He won one, then years later another one, and another year later one more.
Oov same thing pretty much.
The only one to win 2 OGN finals in a row is boxer during the early days of progaming.. Blah.
We seem to disagree, but on some astral level oddly enough I think we hold the same opinion.
1. Yes. Savior winning Starleague three times in a row is a slim chance for the exact reasons you provided. There is this saying in Korea about the two major leagues.
-"The Stongest wins MBCgame, and the Destined wins Starleague." This sarcastically points out MBCgame's bland league maps, favoring the "stable" players with no particular style. (I'd say it's different with savior, but we can agree to disagree on Savior.) Straleague's matches are more often unpredictable. And, YES!! creativity is the only mean to outlast anything in this scene. Let progamers be progamers, give them something creative, unimaginable maps, and see what they do with it. I support creativity 100%.
2. Yes. The reason savior is not receiving much publicity does have less to do with MBCgame, than his style. However, that is the shortcoming of MBCgame. Progamer plays to win. Savior played to win. If that turns out to be boring, it's the map, the commentating, and poor media coverage. I can understand Savior's playstyle can be boring to many(no I am not one of them, but again we can agree to disagree on Savior ), but that's where the broadcasting station's magic begins.
One drastic difference I see between TL, and Korean community sites is the affability towards goodfriend, light, and jju. They are not as popular here as they are in Korea because of the language barrier. They started to gain popularity with Starleague commentators and Ongamenet media coverage. Acknowledging that their matches does not draw as much interest as other more popular progamers, Ongamenet went out of their way to advertise them in commentations bringing up funny stories, and renaming their "boring playstyle" as a whole new unique trait of their own as they were suggested by the fans. So in result everyone started talking about them more, making more funny photoshop images and so on. That is the real power Ongamenet holds, and without a doubt the progamers appreciate it. That's where my hopeless frustration for MBCgame kicks in. Being its fan for as far back as I can remember, they never stood up to Ongamenet, but comforted in being a copycat.
I don't even like Savior that much(for different reasons than you proposed). But can't tell him to lose an interesting game, when he wins boring games. So if MBCgame doesn't make news about Savior this season, or any other who wins the league, they have once again failed to be a professional broadcasting station.

savior is something like italians in football(or soccer in american,i believe),they just do heavy bunker+counter attack, score and then go bunker again and keep 1-0 lead which is gay but gives 'em victory-so if savior plays for win and not for fans it's his choice-like stated before it's commentators job to make equally interesting any game that is played no matter the style.

I don't think that nickname is in reference to his playstyle, though. If I remember correctly, he used to always compare SC to boxing (since he used to train to be a boxer or something, I'm really not sure) and he used boxing terms like "straight" and such in interviews.

Well I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me smile.
You're interviews are so well done and I love the commentary you throw down at the end. I never really noticed the amateurism of MBC game in terms of locations/commentating and such. Goes to show how much we miss with the language barrier.
Thanks again for doing this rinizim. Your work is very much appreciated.
I completely agree that MBC game is not doing enough to promote its league. OGN clearly does a better job, and has, than MBC in making its starleague more prestigious. KeSPa is also contributing to the imbalance between leagues with their ranking system. Savior is enjoying a run as dominating as any in the past and the fact that he is ranked #2 is completely ridiculous imo, despite his last few ZvT hiccups.
Also, I simply cannot agree that savior is "boring." Watching his games makes me think that this is a guy who really just understands the game, and it's really amazing to see his decisionmaking and game management. It's sort of like watching a zerg version of NaDa, who isn't called "genius" for nothing.

Oh come on, all - and I do mean ALL - he does ZvP is mass sunkens, spores and lurkers and preparing to mass drop with guardians.. That basically eliminates most decisionmaking..
Maybe he's got more of it in ZvT but the way he just abuses swarm/lurker to turtle makes it.. not that fun :[

Yep not that kind of Boxer/Nal_rA fun. But watching Savior games often makes me think a lot more. Normally for other games it's purely entertaining, but when you watch Savior you know the remarkable part is not his micro/macro in particular but how he is masterfully controlling the game. So you need to focus more on every little detail and think more about strategic/mental fight. A Boxerrish game vs Savior game, is to me just like watching an English Premier League vs a Series A match.
Savior is good at winning, and that's good enough in itself for him to garner the respect that he gets. However, I have to agree with FA that his ZvP is boring as sin. During his dominating days, July managed to play a dynamic ZvP style, winning games in everyway imaginable.
Muta harass to death, massive lair unit masses to counter FE toss, pure hydra FE rapage (like that game vs pusan on RH in the OSL (or MSL?) quarters... the list goes on.
I may have hated July for his dominance over every toss he met during his prime, but the guy at least won with style. Watching savior gay up the main route of passage with an impenitrable sunk lurk wall and drop the toss to death with no consequence and superior maneuverability doesn't take the decision making skill that I know he's capable of.
The fact is, he'll never lose to a toss in a series playing like that, so I don't fault him for playing that way. But if you expect me to sit around and pretend I like watching it, you've got another thing coming.
Savior imo is just one of those players who is so good at playing his own way, and when he paces the game he has no match. But I swear every time I see him play "differently" he loses, haha; [ I mean its no wonder he goes back to his bread and butter. I like him just for revitalizing drops in ZvT, even if he has had some of the best promaps ever to do it on(Arcadia for instance).
I never really noticed the amateur nature of MBC overall. But even without being able to understand all but a few select phrases, I know that the OGN commentary is always far better. Just from a performance point of view even.
