Did you plan to use it against DRG specifically, or was it just to use against any Zerg?
Could have been against any Zerg; but I only wanted to use it once at the tournament and I set the map order up to use it game 2, so he would be thrown off in the 3rd game of the series.

I think this is the main reason why Scarlett is due to win her first tournament soon. She's always had stellar mechanics, macro, and decision making, but she's learning how to be a strategist and competitor, which is the main advantage that many Koreans have over foreigners.

And if a player were able to win major tournaments while off racing wouldn't that be a better tell as to who is the best player in the world instead of just playing one race. Its like saying yes i can beat you with my main but also with any other race out there. If other player's aren't prepared for that contingency then I would think it would be on them.

Imo, if you're good enough to win with multiple races, and your opponent is not good enough to win when you're offracing, good for you. I'd like to see every tournament allow free race switching. well it's fun for some matches, but maybe not for all. Even Sasha would find it difficult to play against [unknown] every match i guess.

Just like chess players can see 5-10 moves ahead her setting up the map order like that was brilliant. She had a plan for the hole series.

Making it difficult for your opponent is a good thing. Everyone has the option to race switch, I think it could add a lot of flair to a rather stale meta and reward truly skilled players who can excel at multiple aspects of the game.

I definitely agree with you Squat.
While it would make a lot of the pro scene more difficult in general (even for Scarlett to play against though imo she along with just a few others are more gifted and can adjust easier for something like this), it seems possible in my mind that it could boost spectator interest in the game. Maybe the games will seem a bit more odd or one-sided at times, but this could also make for some insanely exciting scenarios where the pros are having to think even harder on the spot. Could really push the threshold pros have to constantly break through to stay at the top.
Seems cool to me . Plus I'd be willing to bet since she decided to off-race that game in MLG that she'd be for it and not against it. The game obviously isn't doing as well as the DOTA's and LoL's of the world - so it could use some fresh ideas.

Allowing players to racepick (and blind pick races) is a thing that rewards player intelligence (ability to master more matchups) and makes for more exciting matches. I don't see how it can be a bad thing for the game.

You're really awesome, Scarlett!!! :D

a quote from the interview:
"How do you feel about the North American pro scene? Can it become more competitive if we continue to see tournaments like MLG + BattleGrounds?
It's rough.. I would be surprised if MLG ran SC2 again and Red Bull is mostly Koreans anyway. Not really sure what could be done as the NA-only events don't get nearly enough viewers to be sustainable."
any one know the attendance at these events? was it bad?

MLG attendance was pretty good. It was hard to tell because there were two other games being played, and the Starcraft stage was on complete opposite ends with the open bracket area, so the crowd would always shift back and forth between the two. Of course, the attendance peaked for Scarlett's games on day 3, during which almost every seat was taken.
Re NA sustainability -- I watch a lot of European tournaments, and it's not like they get extremely high viewership either. Aside from major events like Dreamhack or IEM, smaller events like the Gfinity Cup, DSCL Open or EPS gets like 500-1000 viewers, so I can't imagine those events are sustainable either. Perhaps it's a matter of small-sponsorship being more available in Europe than in NA, but I think there's room for smaller prize-pool events or ladder tournaments in North America.
Skill-wise, I actually don't think Europe and NA are that far apart. Sure, Europe has much more depth, but if you took the top 10 players from NA (let's say Scarlett, HuK, Minigun, Neeb, puCK, Masa, Suppy, QXC, Hendralisk, Major) and put them up against the top ten in Europe (maybe TLO, Vortix, Welmu, Bunny, Dayshi, Mana, Grubby, Happy, Nerchio, Snute), I don't think the skill level would be that far apart. So that whole conversation of Europe v. NA or "Is NA dead" to me always seems a little bit misguided.

Anyone know when the ATC is going to be?

Haven't seen any ATC for a while, I assume it's on hold for summer.

The attendance at Anaheim '14 (for SC2 spectators) was at several times smaller than what it was for Anaheim '12 or Dallas '12. I wasn't at any of the 2013 events, so I can't speak to those. The hall MLG used at the convention center this year (B) was much smaller than the one used in '12 (D), and D was packed to the gills almost the whole time in 2012 when SC2 was the clear "big game" folks were coming to spectate for. At that time, despite the 2,500-3,000 seats that had allegedly been allocated for the SC2 stage, there were still hundreds of folks (possibly 1,000+ for the first KeSPA matches) standing/sitting on the floor, stretching well back into the open bracket area. After Anaheim 2012, MLG released numbers putting the *3-day* attendance at "over 20,000" for an average of 6,600+ per day. I would put peak attendance this year at 2-3000/day (maybe), with CoD having the most spectators. There's obviously a lot that goes into spectator numbers at an event, and 2012 was very special in that regard with the KeSPA invitational, the HotS beta, and one of the most stacked lineups in history, but this year was still a bit of a letdown in my eyes, especially with the numbers we've seen in the past.

To you all think Scarlett will try out for GSL or stay with AM? Imo I think she could get into code s and she wouldn't have the trouble with any kind of latency issues either.

She sure seems to get unlucky in AM anyway, so a GSL run would be cool even if she didn't make it.

Will have to wait and see but I hope she tries it for at least this the last season before the finals. There are I believe enough other tournaments out that she can get enough points for the WCS final. IEM, RBB, G3 and if theres another HTC that also.

based on this ... Scarlett's comments make sense then. thanks for the insight.
