Like them both pretty much equally so the result didn't affect me much, but I would've liked HerO to win (since Taeja already won a mlg). Great run by HerO, looks like he's showing his nerves who's the boss.

I didn't see game 3 :c taeja opens with a reaper but he wasn't able to do anything at all with it, hero goes 3 or 4 gates I'm not exactly sure, and tries to push on taeja ramp, but taeja already has a bunker, he still manages to kill some scv and he expand as well, but stim finishes and taeja stim straight away on hero's stalkers and kills all of them and then pushes with medivacs marines and marauders, hero tries to rush a colossus and holds for a bit more but taeja has too much and hero can't hold

The games, scheduled to be played on August 29., will be as follows: 1. ![]() ![]() 2. ![]() ![]() 3. ![]() ![]() 4. ![]() ![]() It is not an easy group by any means, but looking at all the groups I find it difficult to find one that would be. The obvious good thing is that there is no PvP; while HerO’s underperformance in PvP might be overstated at times, his recent PvT form coupled with his PvZ historically being his strongest implies that this was indeed quite fortunate. HerO gets to start out with a PvT that will be a re-match of winner’s finals of the first round in GSL S2. Maru won that series 2-1, while HerO went on to qualify in second place after beating Curious, whom he had beaten in the first round as well. Back then, HerO won on Entombed Valley going up 1-0 but lost the following games on Antiga Shipyard and Daybreak. Quiet a lot has happened since that particular match; HerO went on make the semi finals of Season 2, before going on a quiet streak both in GSL and in international tournaments, more likely than not getting knocked out by Taeja. Cloud Kingdom is an interesting map, both players being quite even with HerO’s PvT of 3-2 just beating out Maru’s TvP standing at 2-3. One little interesting point of interest will be whether Maru will go for a one rax double expand with a hidden third; MMA beat HerO that way in last season of Code A and Terran players in general have shown a strong liking of this tactic. I expect HerO to scout both the 11 and 5 o’clock positions for such shenanigans. I also want to say that I expect HerO to win, based off his recent ability to beat everyone except Taeja in PvT, but Maru is definitely strong and I would not be surprised to see him either cheese via proxy barracks or via a hidden expansion. Following Maru we will get to see HerO versus Shine. While he has stated that he is not happy about the current state of his PvZ, the fact is that he is on quite the roll on paper. In Korean competitions prior to WCS Korea, he was on a six game winning streak, then he went on to 2-0 Effort and 2-1 Soulkey. The Effort games were perhaps not the most exciting, some mixture of HerO being very good at PvZ and Effort being the diametrically opposite made for a very one-sided series. Against Soulkey we got to see why HerO might not feel comfortable in the matchup but that he also his brilliance at it, taking on maxed Hive armies with superior multitasking and abusing Zerg’s immobility once at that stage Shine is difficult to judge in this matchup. His record of 8-13 is not great, but it might also not be completely representative of his current strength versus Protoss. He started out his SC2 career getting destroyed in the matchup, but his last two matches have ended in victories against Choya and Ace. The map, Daybreak is slightly favourable to Protoss when judged on stats alone. However, just as we cannot truly trust most TvP statistics due to the inflation of 1-1-1 there is also reason to distrust Daybreak in the sense that it lived through an era of countless Protoss 2 base all-ins. However, HerO has a pretty stellar Korean record on Daybreak versus Zerg; going 5-1 only losing to Stephano, most recently beating both Coca and Horror on the map in his TSL4 Korean qualifier. The interesting part of the equation will be what kind of player shows up in Shine’s body; TSL Zergs are almost ridiculously hard to predict. It might very well be that we get to see Shine adopt the now almost old school TSL strategy of Roach and/or Baneling. Once again, I feel HerO is slightly favoured and the deciding factor might well be how well he scouts. The penultimate opponent in the group is Alive, probably the favourite to win the group. They will meet on Whirlwind, a lesser known map due to it so far having been exclusive to GomTV tournaments. The stats in PvT stand at 7-7. The devil in the details is that Alive has gotten two of those Terran wins, against First and Parting, neither of which are known as PvT slouches. Some things, the map is a bit like a combination of Daybreak and Entombed. Terrans have shown some propensity for either going proxy double rax or proxy Marauder builds; the late game feels very nice for Protoss if they can manage to get to the point where they can tech switch between High Templar and Colossi off two or three Robotics. However, Alive is very proficient at TvP with a record of 53-30, which is a monstrous score. Incidentally, Alive is my personal ‘Grubby line’ for TvP; he seems to largely win against people who are good or worse at the matchup while often barely losing out to exceptional PvT’ers. Alive v Parting has in my opinion become one of the most enjoyable things to watch, perhaps similar to MKP v Parting but with more standard play. Due to the map, I do expect to end up with a late game situation where HerO’s main objective must be to preserve Observers and to control Alive’s Ghost numbers. At times, Alive’s army control looks like a contender for top five in the world, which if true means that another weapon will be to try to out-multitask. The recent developments in the late game of TvP has largely gone in the direction of Terran seeming out-gunned and underpowered via being supreme with super large Ghost counts to finally again being susceptible to Zealot and Dark Templar run-bys on peripheral bases. Once again, just like HerO likes to play out late game PvZ, I feel that this direction seems exceptionally suited to his play style and iconic flair in contesting map control while harassing expansions not ready to defend huge drops. If both players show up in good shape and it goes to the late game, it will certainly be interesting to see how it plays out. Finally, there is Suhosin. HerO has defeated Suhosin in GSL before, beating him 2-0 in Code A Season 1. Those games looked very convincing indeed for HerO, quite easily holding off Suhosin’s insistence on Roach busting. Suhosin doesn’t look like he has changed his style all too much since then, in GSL competitions he seems to rely heavily on pre-Lair tech to cheese or otherwise aggressively take games off unsuspecting (or at the very least ill-prepared) Protoss opponents. His record stands at 15-13 in the matchup, I would hazard a guess (I am joking, I would bet my life) that a majority of those wins has stemmed from Roach maxes and Baneling busts. Playing against Suhosin has its funky points. HerO will know that the likelihood of cheese is high. Suhosin knows that HerO knows that. Thus the chance that Suhosin will suddenly play a super greedy game, teching up to Hive with next to no units on the map. Of course, this has been true for a while, but Suhosin has so far has stayed true to his aggressive to a fault play style. When you think about it though, that will only make the surprise all the bigger when it finally happens. Hmm. Given that to me, Shine is a bit of a mystery, this is the game that should if not be the easiest, it should be the one where the balance of skill is most favouring HerO in the group. It is of course a bit unfortunate that this happens in his last game of the group, it might not even end up mattering who wins. But unless Suhosin has completely revolutionized his play, HerO will have to play subpar in order to not get the win. Given that Suhosin’s last two matches were wins against Crank and Vampire, it might very well be that he has hidden depths of ZvP expertise that have eluded me, but it is a lot more likely that it will come down to whether HerO can hold off heavy initial aggression. Looking at the group as a whole, it was not the worst draw for HerO. He got opponents he can deal with in terms of skill. He got fairly lucky with maps, while he did not get his beloved Entombed Valley he also avoided Metropolis and aside for Whirlwind, he will have a lot of stable, well thought out builds for all the other maps. Of course, Whirlwind might have been a map where an opponent could have taken advantage of HerO’s lack of preparation time – with the opponent being Alive they are on equal standing when it comes to this so I doubt that we will see a super secret build being sprung. Overall, I would guess at a 3-1 record for HerO, if I were to predict the loss it would be versus Alive. The lack of preparation time could be an issue, but against both Shine and Suhosin I feel that HerO is rather favoured. It should mean that the first game versus Maru will be of pivotal importance; if HerO loses stringing three straight wins together will be very tough. With a win he will look very good. HerO hwaiting! PS! Due to the typhoon restricting airplane travel atm, HerO's group will probably be re-scheduled as both he and Alive are stuck in San Francisco. PPS! I linked VODs of HerO's previous games versus Maru and Suhosin. Most of those can only be viewed by ticketholders, though I guess the first game of HerO v Suhosin should be available for everyone.

I wasn't able to watch the games. Maybe he will expect that this time and play really safe and shut them all down? I believe in HerO regardless!
