Well, I understand what you mean. Those are nice achievements, and he's been doing okay. But the word slumping is used relative to the players previous performance, and you could say that Stephano has been playing worse than he usually does(in some cases, obviously not the ones you mentioned).
Example: If you're the best player in the world by far (think flash in bw or something), you can be in a slump and still place top 10 in every tournament. For some players, that's a great achievement. For the very best, not so much.
TL;DR Slumping =/= being bad, Slumping = not performing at the top of his level.

A month in which you win 19k, is NOT a slump month. it is actually factually incorrect to name it a ¨slump¨ when he has won more in this month than in nearly any month in his career. (Exceptions being: NASL month, WCS month, and IPL3 month I think?) So calling this a slump is like saying Hero was in a slump when he got to the ro08 of code S, while he had been ro4 before...
|
He won 19k during this month cause there were a lot of tourneys and he's still one of the best, yet he lost to people he shouldn't lose to.
|
Prize money is not the best way to look at it considering there was a tournament that Stephano went to literally every weekend in November.
eswc-lonestar-bwc-dhw-ipl5
so, of course he's going to earn a lot in that month compared to others with only 1 tournament.

It's not about money, it s about against who did he lose, in how many tournaments he didn't show his true level and especially how well was he playing at that specific time.
It's not about money, it's about sending a message !
Everything burns.

I see what you're saying, but I still feel like it's an exaggeration to say that Stephano in the past month has been in a slump or even "not doing so well". He had a few unexpected losses, but that happens to everyone at some point. I can agree that he's been slightly uneven, but that's not the same as slumping. He's had some disappointing results, as well as some really good ones.

So these days a "slump" means you can take out 4 GSL champions (one of them twice) in a row... ah, I get it... no, not really.

I love you too <3 Well, I dislike your fearmongering and negative attitude in a fan club. Clearly, Stephano is not a in any kind of slump and hasn't really been since his rise to fame after IPL3. Calm down. I was calling Stephano the best foreigner before you even knew who he was. Saying that he's struggling a bit when he loses to Idra, TT1 and Fraer is something a fan should raise as a possibility especially given he doesn't appear to be practicing. If you think he should be losing to foreigners of their caliber you must actually think he sucks, so how much of a fan are you? I understand the talk of a slump, but it is a bit disrespectful to TT1 etc who managed to take those series. The reality is no player can win every series in SC2. Stephano showed last weekend that he can take games from Hero, Hyun, Life, DRG, MC, Seed plus Heart and Ganzi. I am keen to see how he does against Kespa players in Proleague. EG are certainly accumulating a Hive Mind in their team - Stephano, Idra, Suppy, Machine, LZGamer and now Jaedong. I would not be surprised if they tried to recruit Scarlett next year.
That's true I shouldn't have disparaged them. The truth is, if you're in GM (even in NA), you're at least better than approximately, 99.9% of all players who play SCII, which means you're a total bad ass in the grand scheme of things. That said, it's still a bit insulting IMO to overlook losses to those players by saying Stephano is playing fine if you really like Stephano, because he should beat players like them say 90% of the time in Bo3 series.
About the mild debate surrounding Stephano's supposed "slump": for some reason that word rubs people the wrong way. Lately, Stephano's results have been mixed. He's had moments of tremendous success (going 4-1 against the Korean all stars, including 2-0 against Life and DRG, which was the most impressive part of that series) and winning LSC and a high placing in ESWC, but also uncharacteristic losses against Fraer, Mana, Idra, TT1, Lucifron (Lucifron is very good but losing 4-0 to him is unexpected to say the least) and apparently some random German player Hanfy. The TLPD is no longer updated so we don't know what Stephano's Elo is at present, but, given his recent losses, it's safe to say it has decreased substantially from its previously lofty heights, which indicates he's not in peak form.
Stephano since IPL3 if nothing else has until recently been a model of consistency. HIs "bad" results are placing only in the top 10 instead of winning a tournament. His longest losing streak is still just 4 games, which is truly amazing. Now, his more recent results show a great deal more variance. My preferred explanation is that he isn't practicing so although his play is 99% of the time very high level, the lack of practice will from time to time manifest itself in the form of more frequent mistakes such as forgotten upgrades (e.g., game 3 against Hyun -- no Hydra range), bad engagement decisions (games 2 and 3 against Hero, e.g.), a failure to scout or suspect a follow up all in, etc.
I think everyone thinks he's going to get back on track unless he truly hates SC2 and is resigned to just riding out his time at EG. I don't think that's the case though. I think Stephano does take pride in his play; he was very serious and focused in his matches against the Korean all stars and I think that's why he played so well. Maybe he just needs some additional motivation, although I'm unsure where he'll get it. (Maybe Code S?)

It was 4-1 and Stephano had just beaten Kas 3-0, so 4-4 against Terran for the night is not terrible, neither is finishing 2nd in that tournament. Tomorrow Stephano might have a chance to get revenge on Lucifron in the IEM qualifiers, he has to get past his brother first!

You do realize lucifron is training specificaly against stephano and his style 90% of the time because he knows he will face him most of the time and he will be one of the hardest to beat. Lucifron trains against stephano while stephano is installing LoL..... That pretty much sums it up why he loses like that.

Stephano might face him twice this week.
Are you sure Lucifron is not on a slump? Since Stim to the Win, he lost 6 games out of 6 at IPL5/GSL World Championships!
As long as Stephano does not have to play Lucifron from Texas, like last time when he lost, Stephano should beat him again.

Installing LoL after losing 10 games in a row on EU server .
Give him a break, he needs to take some rest after that crazy month and his "bad" results.
And if he doesn't manage to qualify for IEM Poland, maybe we could see Stephano in Proleague in January, might be a good thing.

Ahh, I had heard 4-0 (and that Stephano was sick). Without TLPD up I don't know what's going on any more. Nice that he got second overall.

His games against Life and DRG were pretty awesometastic to me.

His ZvZ and ZvT are (most of the time) still top notch. Even compare to late 2011, early 2012. Even vs Koreans. The biggest change is Protoss players adapt too well vs his style. At some point Stephano had like a 95% vs Protoss foreigner. Now I guess something like 60%. Much harder then, to finish top 3 every tournament he enters...
