IMO tyler has fallen into the idra box where he has become very predictable..
95% of his PvTs he will 3gate robo or 3 gate expo
95% of his PvZ he will 3 gate expo
95% of his PvP? (this may be acceptable) he will 4 gate into colossus or 3 gate blink
The only difference is the zerg standard is to expand quickly so its alot harder to fall behind that way.
when was the last time tyler did a 1 gate expo, forge FE or god forbid nexus first? I feel Forge FE PvZ has become almost standard on some maps but i dont think ive ever seen tyler do it..
Yea I don't think it has to do with taking risks but focusing more on macro. It seems that most games Tyler will do a one-base or two-base timing and just stop making probes completely. I would love if Tyler tried a more economical style, ie. not stopping with the attacking but always having options if the attacks don't pay off greatly.

^ That is a problem as well however
Tylers 3 gate robo expo into double forge +2/2 colossus timing attack is a very strong timing and most of the time when i see people stay "safe" against that build they get crushed, but as we witnessed in the VS Major series who took a very fast expo its not as strong...
but if Tyler had done a 1 gate expo into 3 gate robo into double forge +2/2 colossus timing attack it would either come a couple minutes earlier OR have a lot more behind it making it probably viable vs a terran who took a risky expo
or just cut probes and drop a nexus as soon as he sees a CC going down

I still believe in you Tyler!

Tyler's main problem is he never has enough gateways because he thinks that he should only need 3, but then his macro like any other mortal's slips and bam he's floating minerals he can't get rid of and not enough units.

I don't think Tyler doesn't realize what could have been done different in hindsight. Instead I think the reason Tyler chooses to use super safe builds and limited gateway counts is because his holds himself to such a high standard. He has the mentality of a champion and wants to be able to win with excellent timings and super safe play. Unfortunately things don't always go as planned.

I am not sure I would even categorize one-base and two-base gateway timings as "safe" though. If they fail, you are really far behind and in some cases straight up lose.
Also to the person who said that Tyler slips up with his macro, causing him to be unable to produce enough units with his limited Gateway count; I don't really agree with that assessment. Extremely rarely do I see his Gateways stop producing, he is really good at keeping track of production. The reason he stops at 3-4 (or sometimes 6) Gateways is that he is aiming for a specific timing, where if all goes as planned he will crush his opponent. However, what you see sometimes is that the timing attack doesn't outright crush his opponent, and then he will be behind because he has not produced more Gateways nor more probes, making expansion/lategame impossible.

I don't know, I personally wouldn't say that builds (and by extension, strategies) based around 3 Gate openers are really safe anymore. I'm surprised it worked for as long as it did, the 3 Gate Robo always felt really passive and awkward to me personally. In a way, as a fan I'm happy that Zerg (primarily) learned how to handle it because in all honesty it was one of the ugliest Starcraft trends I've seen. =P
The Forge-Stargate openers that MC and Nani do intuitively feel a lot more natural, at least conceptually (and also a lot closer to how PvZ worked out in Brood War). I'm kind of surprised that Tyler wasn't one of the first Protoss to pick up on this trend, since one would think that it suits a player of his mindset and multitasking ability a lot better than sitting back or shyly poking around and building up Sentry/Colossus for a timing attack.
Anyways, I remember Tyler himself saying a couple of SotGs ago that Protoss could/will develop into a lot more dynamic and aggressive race, and it seems to be going that way, so here's the chance to channel some of that dormant Brood War skill into SC2 dominance. =)

amazing play in NASL tonight, lovin the innovation

beautiful game 3 vs. cloud.

congratulations tyler! you got this man! never give up

<3 your final Nasl game, gj

Great win tonight for Tyler.
His PvP isn't 4 gate into colossus. Watch his series against MC in MLG. He opened up different all 3 games. Also, note that Tyler is a player who boasts his refinement and execution rather than creativity and spontaneity (although he isn't afraid to flex those muscles).

Great way to end NASL. Good luck in Sweden and MLG Anaheim!

I need to go back and look at that build order versus ClouD on Xel'Naga. I don't even play Protoss but that was inspiring.

Anyone care to explain why Tyler dropped one of the coolest gamer names I've ever heard in 'NonY' and just made his gamer tag his first name? I don't know why it bothers me so much and I'm not even that big of a Tyler fan. (I'm a Terran player) But I just don't understand it. thx

Hearing on the NASL that Tyler is contemplating quitting is highly disheartening. I believe him to be one the smartest and best overall Protoss outside Korea. A true inspiration to not top tier players such as myself.

People kept misreading/pronouncing it unfortunately.

I blame Artosis.
Good luck in Dreamhack. I will be cheering you on!
