EDIT: I've never seen MKP play a solid mech game the last few events.. Whenever he tosses down the double armory he loses. Thats not because of MKP though, its because mech is a gimmicky play, if the zerg knows its coming, he can crush it in so many ways, I think MKP played good that game, but he played a stupid style. No, mech is a legitimate strategy. But roach drops own mech with no banshees (or mass turrets, which he also could have made, he had 1500 minerals when he got dropped) MKP should have transitioned into hellion banshee, not straight to tanks The hellion/banshee doesn't stop this if prepared from the very start of the game, HyuN has done this a lot vs hellion/banshee and rolled over them. To deal with roach drops you need to have a timer on the overlords in some ways. you can deal with roach drop with banshees, tanks and scv pull, mkp almost held this off. zerg has no way of reaching the banshees, so they will deal damage for the entire duration. The attack went on for several minutes, which means dozens of roaches per banshee Still doesn't change the fact that mech is a gimmick that relies on on the zerg not going for an opening that counters it, Dimaga knew MKP was going mech before he put down his evolution chamber, so he countered it. you talk about the "counter" to mech as there is such a thing, mech is not one build. Mech is quickly becoming standard TvZ, its stupid to say it's a gimmick Well, the players currently succesful in TvZ don't really go mech.. TaeJa, Polt, Bomber, they may do it every once in a while, but 90% of their game is marine/tank. Mech is easy to deal with if the zerg knows it's coming, it was a "standard build" a while ago because zergs didn't know how to play against it like they do now. All these players mech in TvZ too. you have no idea what you're talking about I said 90% of the time, Polt I can't recall when I saw him mech, same with TaeJa, Bomber is the one who mechs the most out of the 3, but in all his games at IPL 5 I can't recall a single mech game.

The key is to trade hellions for drones throughout the game. anyways, this is derailing the thread Even then Dimaga shut down every attempt MKP tried to roast drones, MKP tried like 5-6 times but Dimaga always had roaches in place.

Also the fact that one or two GSLs ago Polt would never go mech ever, but now mixes it in sometimes does mean that he considers it a viable style.

Whaddaya know, MKP's held another 6pool on Ohana with 14cc.

Haha, that hold was beautiful. Gogo MKP!

lol that game was a huge WTF

Wow MKP really impressing me in this tournament. It looks like his TvZ has improved a lot Hopefully he can take this last game too
GOGOGOGO MKP!!!!!

Dimaga botched that 6 pool more than anything...The hold was easy when he only left a couple drones and a zergling at MKP's main.

It's a style that it takes time to know and get used to. Mech can be extremely powerful if played correctly. I watched those, I think with the drop style you could be good if the zerg goes for a brood lord rush, but game 1 Symbol did a roach max all in and it didn't end up killing Baby, then he followed it up with a nydus that failed miserable, then he went into BL/infestor while he was behind. At this point Baby had a giant lead and it's simple to play mech from there.
I can't exactly recall game 2, But i think symbol just played sloppy while brood lord rushing? correct me if i'm wrong, but I remember everyone shocked at how symbol played that game.

Actully his TvZ looks as it does always, super greedy play. If he doesn't dies to an all in he will win, but 90% of the games he dies to some all in. I hope he plays something save in the last game

The only TvZ at IPL5 with mech (filtered out by any game where +1 vehicle armor was upgraded). So, it was 2-5 and polt didn't go mech
