It's much more equivalent to a grand master chess champion sitting down with an amateur and berating his play and insulting him, which is totally unacceptable.

Silver has played some awesome games, come from no where and beaten good players. If Idra is too stuck up to just take that instead of being the bully pro-gamer who feels the need to bash at new people coming into the scene then he can do that outside of games and tournaments. Just because you think a matchup is imbalanced does not give you the right to rip on another player. That game was so embarassing I hope that ESL has the sense to give him a warning over this and ban him from tournaments for a certain time if he does this again. If anyone but Idra had gone on a rant like that he would had taken heat from the entire community, if a newbie posted a replay where he rants like that it would had been laughed off because of the silly newbie who rants on imbalances when he can't win. But because it is Idra, then to start to rant on your opponent, completely unprovoked and to insult him in a tournament game is suddently a "fresh breath of air"? Come the fuck on. I think Idra is a great player and I don't mind all of the small stuff, but that game was over the line.

Have you ever actually followed the chess scene? Do some research before making comparisons because there are some really really bad-mannered chess players on the very top level. For example, until recently a common practice used to be to to blow cigarette smoke across the board - and the reason they are not doing it anymore is because of all the smoking bans, not because it's a game. A huge part of the biggest sports game on the planet - football - are mind games, which include a lot of bad manners. Yes, those players who have the decency to be well-mannered albeit all the pressure on them get a lot of respect. But at the same time the rude players, who know how to taunt to opposing team and their fans, receive huge support as well.

I mean Jesus Christ people, at the end of the day it just makes the game more fun to watch and the competition more personal and intense. As long as IdrA continues to back up smack talk with an astounding amount of competitive success, then why go into a squealing nerdrage every time he calls calls the other guy a fag? Whining =/= Smack Talking

I've seen players, managers and some random staff guys get into total rage and even physical fights. I'm not saying this is good because it's not - it's too often that they cross the limits. I'm merely noting that all the talk how SC will not be considered a proper sport until people start showing some respect is simply not true. Having both types of players doesn't seem to be a problem for other sports and raging players are often praised for their passion. Frankly, what IdrA and the other gamers who get into rage mode do can not even be compared to professional sports. It is just some ranting, usually against the refs (in this case, Blizzard for not fixing the balance). If you like his play, you'd say that this is just a display of character, if not it's just funny in a childish way.

http://www.wcreplays.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128947&page=3 Here's my favourite quote: When people put in the same amount of time that Idra does he will fall flat on his face. He's overrated. His talent is limited in scope compared to other players, he has no innovation, his micro during battles is obviously nowhere near as good as some of the other players, and heavily relies far too much on long drawn out macro games to win. How misinformed people can be! I mean, Idra's manners are terrible, but to put him down as a gamer! That's pretty bold. He's no Flash indeed, but then again, who is? I'd correct them, but I can't just put in the effort to register on some random site. Anyway, enjoy reading, if you can handle a bunch of n00bz!

You shouldn't make examples when you have you have no idea what you're talking about. Chess is probably the worst example you could have used for your point and I have absolutely no idea what difference it makes if the sport is physical or mental (and to imply UFC is only a physical sport is laughable....) People like to laud the fact that badmanner is completely unprofessional and the competition scene will die if everyone isn't a good mannered boring sportsmanship whore. Have you people watched any other SPORT IN THE WORLD? Every single one of them has a few cocky bastards that smack talk but are near the absolute top of their profession. People love them and people hate them but they are all good at what they do and they certainly liven up the scene. Maybe it just angers people that an asshole can be good at something...?

Well without going off on a tangent of why referring to ufc as just a physical sport makes you extremely ignorant. I will say: You're right. They are different. Because 'trash' talking is a lot more tame and has extremely lower repercussions in Starcraft 2 than in a physical sport. I thought all SC2 players posting on TL had a strong desire for "e-sports' to grow. Well for that to happen you have to let go of whining over the little things. Example of trash talking that can be directly relatable: Madden Nation (one of the more succesful e-sports in the US). Case closed.
