Grab a guitar, set Capo 1. Play Em, G, Am7, Em7. That is the entirety of Telephone.
Now set Capo 2, play Em, G, D/F#, Am. That is Bbbiribom Bberibbom.
So you see here from the capo settings that there is a direct key difference you aren’t picking up on. Then, the first two chords are the same, but the last two are different. So you didn’t catch the general chord progression.
Beyond this, the reason the last two are different is because the focus of the melodies actually ride on the chords differently.
The focus of telephone goes F, full step down to D# way up to A# then way down to F on the next octave down.
The focus of Bbbiribom Bberibbom goes F# one and a half steps up to A way down to E on the next octave down, then up to A# on the next octave up.
So if you were playing on piano your hands would actually move in opposite directions when you play the two songs. This is without even touching the way the rhythms and harmonies are much different.
Please don’t act like you know what you’re talking about when you’re just guessing based on poor discernment and untrained ears.
