innocence is part of the show. it always has been. Especially with idols like IU.

Why do you think the cute image is so promoted? it's to create an illusion of innocence. Otherwise they would've just gone full slut mode with IU, like they did with Hyuna.
Orrrr it could have nothing to do with it. Some idols keep their image stuff separate from their music, it doesn't have to be the same thing both on and off stage.
I'm not saying it's wrong to do it (keeping image separate from private life), but look at it from the point of view of the fan. They've been sold this image, and then this twitpic comes out, and shatters the illusion for them. How do you think they're gunna react?

That's the problem though, isn't it. We all know the magic show isn't actually "magic". But when the magic trick fucks up, it just ruins the show, but in reality we already know that it was all a trick to begin with.
No matter what happens IU is going to take a loss in her fanbase because her image has change in the view of her fans and all of this is just bad news for IU.
I think it would be better for both idol and company to just be more honest with their pop-stars and let them openly date and shit. netizens and fans would react for a bit, then get used to it, and a good amount of the crazyness would probably go away.

I think the bigger problem here is the phrase, "rational human beings." I'm not entirely sure if I would label the fans freaking out right now as rational human beings.
IU's newest mini album was about turning 20 and growing up, so even though i don't think was intentional. i do think that she was about to begin a transition away from the nations little sister image into a more mature artist anyway. Also, Baek Ji Young had a sex tape and she's doing pretty well for herself.

yeah after being exiled out of the industry for x amount of years lol, I wouldnt take that as an example for the korean forgiveness scale
baek ji young had to spend the best part of her life under self imposed house arrest and had to come out with songs that are not only top top top top quality but as the main theme to dramas that score 40% national audience viewership to get to where she is now.

Image, especially in Asian cultures, is paramount. I guarantee you most people will know T-ara as bullies and Hyuna as a whore. wei2cool is right for once. Nobody will look at IU in the same light. Preconceptions are simply too strong to overcome.

you obviously don't understand how hard it's been for her to pull herself out of that image. also she was being used (as the cover story goes), scenario is once again totally different.

I like the fact that my ban was about me talking shit about idols and then calling the people on this board crazy. Then IU and Kuja (and other posters too) just go and prove my points.
