Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
No reposting of old material unless justified
Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)
Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up.
Why do I watch trashy shows when I know they're shit?
Because it's good entertainment.
I don't think anyone is going to make an argument that pop music is good 'in the classical sense of what is quality music' whatever that is. But I think if you like something, you must find some good qualities about it that appeal to you.
Not really. There are plenty of shows that I continued to watch even though it was shit (because I want to see how the story concludes or if it becomes good again). Than there's also those popular movies that I'm curious about.
@Sableyeah- It was/is still mostly popular just because people like to troll with it, not because they genuinely like it (in the states anyway). Also if you think this is AKP level you really haven't visited AKP in awhile.
@Spekulatius- pretty much covered what I wanted to but better; I was going to post something but couldn't word my statement right. Pretty much nailed it. Liking things is subjective but people have predispositions towards liking things because of outside factors. In this case Moonwrath liking SNSD songs more simply because they're by SNSD, and not just because the songs are good.
if you can't admit that it's a bad song, you're biased.
don't make any kind of sense whatsoever. That literally says, "if I don't like it, you must be biased." I guess that's my entire point about 'bias vs quality'. Who is anyone to say what someone likes?
That was never actually the point of my argument. The point was that new bands aren't established (by definition of being new) so fanboys/girls don't inflate the worthiness and legitimacy of their music.
Dyst and Spek have the right idea.
But if you bothered to look at my last.fm you'd see that I've listened to a shitload of SNSD in my days. But fanboys and fans are a completely different breed.

rofl cool strawman arguments. not really good at this are you
you can't use a song that was largely panned by the general community, previously establish yourself as a stan of said group, and expect people to not call you out on/not believe the example you offered. true objective fans are hard to find and you are definitely not one. Not to pick on you but that was seriously a bad example; lovey-dovey as a bad song works much better.
anyhow I don't understand how there can't be objectively good music. there's a reason why music theory exists.
I couldn't be considered a Miss A fanboy. Only like 1 or 2 of their songs, but Touch is a nice little pop song. Expecting anything more from kpop is ridiculous.
Just enjoy the music for what it is and perv over the videos/pics like any self respecting man would do and leave all the other crap to 15 year old girls.
Watching Feast of the Gods with Nanashin stream and co. - so good! Sung Yu Ri as one of the main characters, bringing it back oldstyle. + Show Spoiler +

Music theory can't explain why something is good. It can explain that the human brain responds positively to general patterns like certain harmonies, or the fact that we like to hear a rhythm instead of tones thrown together without any ordering whatsoever. (It gets harder when trying to explain flamenco which follows the weirdest beat ever. And then there's the twelve-tone technique which gives some music theoreticians the biggest boner while it disgusts the general public.)
Music theory then seeks to reproduce the patterns that it found appealing and experiments with them by reproducing and rearranging them. That's what it does. It can't say if things are good or bad. Complexity doesn't mean quality, neither does creativity or ingenuity. People might interpret it that way, but it's in no way founded on the science that is music theory.
kk done with a few days of some good old studying so bringing this topic back on track with some HQ Burberry! <3 Tiffany's hair so much. Also this is a better pic of Seohyun, I thought her dress was awesome actually.

I'll admit it's a pseudo-science at best, but you basically contradict yourself. Certain harmonies sound more pleasing to our ears because they are technically better, hence they are "good" from an objective perspective. There's a reason why simple melodies like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star are appreciated, and why more complex expressions such as the caprices from Paganini are also celebrated.
It's the same way with literature and other arts. I don't find a Tale of Two Cities appealing in the slightest, but I cannot deny it's a classic and a an excellent example of historical fiction providing social critique.
There is a difference between good/bad music and good music you dislike/bad music you enjoy. Assuming the two are equivocal is silly.

Saving this post for our future is this shit good/bad discussions. Well done sir.
New Miss A - Lips should've been their title track.. it's so strong. I love JYP but I think he was blinded by his own production of Touch I honestly think Lips might be the best song I've heard this year so far.
Have they announced if they will be promoting more than 1 song on this mini-album?
