Cause management thinks they have to do something new to attract/keep fans for some reason, and then Hoot/Shy Boy hit it big and everyone decided they had to do retro concepts.
Completely agree btw. Don't like Lupin or RDR, but do like that style concept/song. SNSD should never have left the Gee stages (though arguably age had something to do with abandoning the cutesy stuff for SNSD), and KARA could have found new ways to shake their ass for 3-4 more singles like they did for Mister and everyone would've been happy.

SNSD only started to decline after Hoot, that was god awful. Only Jessica looked normal. Marine concept is the single greatest image evar. Oh! was ok, nothing particularly great. RDR was hot. but with Mr Taxi, I see the light reemerging for sones.

^because for most of us outside of Korea, we don't see average Korean girls so we hold idols to a higher standard and because we know that Yuri could be so much better than she is now. Personally I don't really care, never was much of a Yuri fan so I'll continue kind of ignoring what she does.

If you look at anything recent (see vid)... it's not thaaat bad. And if she's doing it to improve her fitness, meh. I'm more bothered by the baby fat lost from her face. It's sort of like a redux of old BoA vs new BoA.

Well our ancestors believed that dark-skinned women were more promiscuous and that may have translated in modern times as being a culturally sexy thing. Probably the nobles writing down shit about the typical peasant woman.
Like Hyori was pretty pale in FinKL before going all-tan for her solo debut and she's gone from fairy idol to "sexy queen".

Suzy's legs never looked idol-like to me. Very short and stubby

Yuri's face looks better now imo but it was still good before. Her arms are way too skinny though :\

The thing about fat on your face is that you become self-concious about it and it bothers you all day. You forever feel fat because of some fat on your face that refuses to go away until you're at 2% body fat and your arms are sticks
