It's just that I thought it was sad of him hinting that KyoAni is a high quality animation studio... An animation studio that is popular to hate is Bee-Train. I personally like a lot of anime they've made, but other people seem to dislike them for some reason. If you think I'm sad for thinking so, then I think you're unduly biased and elitist. If you look at kyoto's works, they're all nearly perfect on a technical level. That's all I'm saying. They excel at producing anime. Their animation is more fluid, their art more consistent, their color use, music use, ability to build an atmosphere, whatever else you want to look at (from a technical perspective) is on another level from any other studio's weekly TV show releases. Get over it. You may hate the anime they release, but you can't deny them that.

And I definately disagree with you over them being nearly perfect on a technical level. Music use? Ability to build an atmosphere? What about Lucky Star? K-On? Did you really watch them because of their ability to build an atmosphere? I can understand Clannad, Kanon and Air but if you plan on praising those, praise Key instead... If we plan on continuing to compare animation studios Madhouse would be a lot more fitting this kind of description.

Those are completely different genres. There's no real reason to watch Lucky Star for atmosphere because it's supposed to be a simple, slice of life type show. Just because they deal in animes that aren't as reliant on setting as other animes doesn't mean that their production quality is poor or even average.

I'm just going to leave it at this before I lose more faith in humanity.

I don't really like them because they're more of a Shounen animation company. I've seen shrine maiden. Nothing too great there D: Lol @ that series. But they made FMA, Eureka 7, Darker than Black, and Ouran High School... okay I haven't seen the last three in that list but I'm going to soon because my friends keep telling me to -_- Although it does look like they are setting themselves up for failure with Tokyo Magnitude. Plus it's one of the better sites for information on some random touhou-based doujin stuff ![]()

About the production studio thing, give it a rest, Shauni, you are definitely in the minority here. I don't particularly see how your example makes sense considering you how you appear to be looking for the same kind of atmosphere in all of their works, something impossible considering the differences in genre. On the matter of music, no, they are hardly the best. Each soundtrack they produce has a few noteworthy songs at best. But overall the quality of productions from it are by far more consistent and better than I've seen from any other studio. Bee Train is hit and miss, honestly if they didn't get Kajiura Yuki for the music for Noir and Madlax they would've looked silly. Gonzo is hit and miss at its best (you wonder why Nitroplus still works with them), etc. The only thing that I can say which comes close would probably be aniplex, and they do a really wide array of things, often covering only one segment of the work. That and they were involved in the genji monogatari animation, so I can't help but mock them for that. Madhouse is...interesting, perhaps if Kyoto Animation starts being more prolific as Madhouse we'd see a proper comparison. If we look at the best of the two compared to each other, Madhouse imo edges out KyoAni, but on the average, the sheer amount of stuff from Madhouse just makes the overall quality look that much more lackluster. For touhou-based doujin stuff, your best bet is to just learn Japanese. Too much material of too diverse a range, waiting for translations will never come to anything for this. Jokes aside, shrine maiden works fine imo, though if people are interested I can see if I can find the walkthroughs that are on sale at comiket/reitaisai/etc. I once saw one for th9.5 and was simply amazed at the idea that you can make a walkthrough for Touhou in text and pictures. Gendai Mahou is sooo random, to the point that I really think I am going to read the books.
