If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

It had multiplayer, hahah.

Edit:
Also, it was like Total War. You enter with a set army and duke it out.

WTF. The intro was nice though, and I lol'd at the "Accelerator is ... my mother?!" line.

I've played it. Was okay.

I only saw some gameplay and it looked like Sins of a Solar Empire. So I guess it was very similar? Was it only missions or was free-play included as well?

Is it translated?

Shogun: Total War had base-building, in a different sense though. You could build troops etc and then fight a battle with the numbers you want. So it wasn't "really" set, only the battles.

No, some people attempted to translate it but they dropped the project at some point

No base-building IIRC you just have a fleet and try to win. The multiplayer is like Total War multi in that I think you just have a fleet and win. Last one I played was Rome, though, so maybe they changed that later.

Yep, same here...really wish there were more Japanese games getting translated, especially the Falcon games. Heck, I would even want to play the Detective Conan game but no, no english version available =(

Well, RTT games can be fun too. A game doesn't need to be all about macro and strategy. Just take a look a the Dawn of War 2 games. Not really that balanced and completely different from Starcraft, but still incredibly fun (as long as you are a WH40k fan in the first place, I guess).

I also tried to play a little Man of War: Assault Squad co-op and it is really great, but incredibly hard.

So that makes me even more curious, even though I didn't like most of the Total War series. :/

Why do you feel that way? Just general anime burnout?

Nah, only regarding Gundam. I didn't know it was that bad(relationship-wise/what was in the video). Only Wing got licensed here, so I always thought all Gundam shows are like that and I never would have guessed that that was the exception. And thus, my "excitement" is suddenly gone
I still have other anime I can watch (and I need to find the Soldats-subs of Monster anytime soon), so it's not really a problem.

It's unfortunate but true that a lot of Gundam series are just carbon copies of eachother. I'm still holding out hope for Unicorn as its simply awesome though

Define "a lot". Otherwise, its not true. Unless of course, by "carbon copies" you mean "share similar themes" or "the occasional similar event".

Well, lol the video I linked from from Victory Gundam, and its not ALL like that. Anyway, Victory Gundam isn't considered to be great anyway.

Anyway, I've said it before, but Wing really was one of the weaker Gundam shows. So with you planning on watching all the other shows, I think you should be more excited that they are mostly considered to be better than Wing. Zeta is extremely good, and you are almost there. I wouldn't really say Wing was the "exception" of the Gundam-shows either (IMO G Gundam or Turn A would be the biggest 'exception'). Wing just had the weakest cast cast of characters, not counting SEED Destiny or Victory. The level of "romance" and "love" in most Gundam shows is probably around the same level as Wing. Like the Zechs x Noin stuff, or Heero x Relina.

Wasn't Dawn of War 2 like Company of Heroes? Like...some buildings but it's mostly about micro/strategy? I liked that as well but I would definitely prefer a Sins of the Solar Empire-ish game or rather Conquest: Frontier Wars-like...just even bigger with Hero Units and all. Gah, that would be so awesome.

Yes, it is basically a Warhammer 40k version of CoH (with some slight differences). I felt that Sins was too slow paced for multiplayer, but that might be me. I'd prefer a round of MoO2 over Sins every day. :/

Conquest: Frontier Wars... Was that the game with the supply lines and stuff? Where you had to connect your systems and send supply ships for ammo? That was pretty interesting, but I never met someone who played that game. xD

To be honest, when I checked the translation of V Gundam, I saw a scene where I female officer baths with a gundam pilot and that was....weird. So uh, are you sure it's not like that?

But, the problem is that I prefer shows(and the characters in it) like Gundam Wing and so, even though it's considered rather weak, it's probably the best out of them(for me at least). Plus, the comment which that one person wrote, isn't exactly helping in that regard. Anyway, I will see it when I watch those shows. SEED and 00 seem to be the worst out of the selection regarding "romance".
Another matter, why do the Gundam shows feature nudity? The original Gundam had Mirai and Fraw and the film had Sayla...so all female characters were covered. 08 MS Dai had Kiki and Victory Gundam has a bathing scene in it as well. Isn't that somewhat weird? ^^

Yeah, I would definitely agree with that. Never played Sins online, only games with the computer. And I would choose CoH over Sins any day.

Correct, you had to build a gate on that hole to secure a supply line. The three races were very starcraft-like btw. Terrans, Mantis and Celareon=Terrans, Zerg, Protoss. I really liked that game and there was a sequel in the making but they dropped the project back then. It was only me who had the game but since you were able to play it without a CD, you could easily share it. So a friend of mine and I used to play it via LAN and it was awesome

Well, those were the good old times. Nowadays I rarely play games and when I do so, it's only RPGs(in any form, T-RPG, S-RPG etc) and Hack'n'Slash(Dynasty Warriors). Lost interest in playing RTS/FPS games.

Shogun: Total War had base-building, in a different sense though. You could build troops etc and then fight a battle with the numbers you want. So it wasn't "really" set, only the battles.

Is it translated?

No, some people attempted to translate it but they dropped the project at some point

Too bad, it sounds interesting and I'm always happy to try out new and interesting games.

Yep, same here...really wish there were more Japanese games getting translated, especially the Falcon games. Heck, I would even want to play the Detective Conan game but no, no english version available =(

No base-building IIRC you just have a fleet and try to win. The multiplayer is like Total War multi in that I think you just have a fleet and win. Last one I played was Rome, though, so maybe they changed that later.

So it's like the tactical rpg games, only that it's rts-style instead of turn-based?
Hm, kinda disappointing to hear that.

That was pretty interesting, but I never met someone who played that game. xD

I remember that I got the game for free on some games magazine CD. I always played the insects, because they had awesome carriers and you could hide somewhere in the FoW and just fighter rush the enemy. Pretty interesting game overall, but I have no idea how it plays with human opponents.

I need to install CoH again some day, it was pretty fun too. I prefer MoW:AS for my WW2 battles right now, especially since it is so incredibly realistic. But most people are turned of by the realism and huge amount of micro that is required. At least 90% of my usual co-op friends took a look at the game and fled.

(Perhaps we should take this discussion to PMs so that we don't spam the thread with off-topic posts?)

Edit: Whee, content.

I just watched the Kyou Chapter on Clannad for fun. I really like those two episodes the one with Kyou and the one with Tomoyo.

Tomoyo chapter was great, but too short.

I'm sure the Japanese version of Wing had nudity in it somewhere as well, but its been a while. Obivously stuff like that was edited out of the US release. I'd say its more of a result of it being anime, than being Gundam.

The main character of Victory is like a 12 year old kid, and the show goes to great lengths to make his life as bad as it possibly can be. Alot of the adult women in the show tend to feel very... Maternal around him. But anyway, its really one of the darkest Gundams. The show practically introduces people to kill them. The part where they decide to attack him with rocket launcher weilding, bikini wearing, jet-pack wearing is the most ridiculous thing I've seen in a Gundam show, but its also the only thing I can remember being like that lol
