i don't think that counts as a trap tbh?
Should have given the role to KitaEri though, she's really good with male voices imo
And it's not like it was "just because". The whole "I'm going to build my own robot" seems to be quite important with everything from him getting through all the classes with super speed as well as trying to physically build it (because gunpla I assume), so you do end up with him being really young early on and multiple time skips

Apocrypha is probably the second worst entry in the series in my book, but that's because to me it looks like a transparent attempt to do Fate/stay night but bigger. Maybe being animated will help if the direction's good.
|
Apocrypha was the result of them salvaging a story from an online game they were developing but the plans for that fell through so they consolidated the content into novels.
|
Isn't there some cute trap or something in Apocrypha? See LWA is finally on netflix. Time for some CGDCT Harry Potter
|
Netflix's sub for LWA are garbage and they only released the first 13 episodes, not the entire series. The rest of the series is still not even announced as far as a release date goes.

Isekai seems like a waste of time so far.

When I read that I thought "Ok, apparently they are trying to make a brutal sci-fi but watered down with cute characters, romance and a time-leap a la Steins;Gate." Then I took a look at the director and it said he did Steins;Gate. Why am I not surprised...? Apparently the character designer is the same as in SEL and Texhnolyze. I wouldn't have guessed it just looking at the art. It looks completely different so advertising with SEL and Texhnolyze seems kind of pointless to me, no? That's probably just to show ABe's credentials, I can see some similarities with his previous works but they're pretty different otherwise. Not too surprising considering SEL, Tex, HR and N7 were all released close to eachother, had a lot of staff in common between them and Project D is coming out 15 years after his last major work. As long as this isn't another S;G i'm excited, Time travel/loop shows tend to either be amazing or garbage from my experiences with them but I'll be optimistic for now. I hope this was the project Chiaki said he was working on, he said he'd come back in 2016 but nothing came out of it. Also Despera never Yeah, I know they are probably his credentials. Still seemed weird when watching the ad. I also his designs in SEL, Tex and N7 (haven't watched HR yet but dl'd it recently). What are amazing time travel/loop anime? I have watched a few but none of them was amazing. Off the of my head: Boku Dake, Steins;Gate, Girl who leapt through time, Your Name, KnK: Mujun Rasen, GitS: Innocence, Re ero, Patema, Haruhi (lol). The only anime that come to mind, but I'm not sure would count, are Madoka (very good) and Tatami Galaxy (truly amazing). Despera is probably going to be released shortly after I die, just to spite my life. Aside from Your Name, Tatami Galaxy and the girl who leapt through time that's pretty much everything I watched in terms of anime, only loved KnK 5 & Innocence out of all of them. Patema doesn't have time-travel elements as far as i can remember. Outside of anime there's : - Hakomari (LN)- Qualia (Manga)- The man who folded himself (American novel): VERY WEIRD, can be summed up as: "If we gave a guy the ability to travel through time, how far would he take it ?" The last one looks interesting, thanks for the recommendation. Outside of anime I can only think of Back into the Future. The Elves books had some time travel mechanic which I liked but it was more accidental and not one of the main focusses or issues in all but one book. Do you mean the Dark Elf trilogy ? Can't find any book series with the name the elves aside from that and tolkien stuff. Speaking of movies, I completely forgot about groundhog day. It's a classic and it popularized the one-day style timeloop. Oh, it's actually called The Elven in english. It's by a german author called Bernhard Hennen and I'm not sure any of his other works have been translated to english. Which would be a shame because imho the other Elven novels are all better than the original kickoff. Never watched Groundhog Day, either. Which isn't surprising because I haven't watched a ton of movies in my life. They're translated up to the ninth book in Dutch at least, I'll give them a shot if my local library has them. Relatively short read but perfectly avoids paradox. I've read that one, really good for it's length. The movie predestination is based off of it too. There's also "By his bootstraps" by Heinlein, fun novella with a causal loop only achievable by having the MC be the most clueless idiot in all of fiction.
Eh ok, just don't try them with time-travel in mind. They aren't about time travel they just happen to have some.

Well that's some good stuff there Neo.
Netflix cocking up is annoying. They seem to be doing that more and more lately. Frustrating. Guess I'll just grab it elsewhere.

Only got to watch Knights and Magic so far but this might be the AotS lol. Magic, mechs, monster and imo, likable cast. Should be good and the animation etc... ain't shabby either. Mechs look great too and fit well considering they are CGI afaik.

About all we've got is that he was a good guy and a major robot model otaku; his regret upon dying was that he wouldn't get to build his models. While that does explain his instant love of the Silhouette Knights in his new life (basically giant mechs), it isn't much to base a character on, especially not one we're supposed to sympathize with.
time to go ham on ANN?

Typical ANN being shit. Hes among the most relatable and sympathetic characters in anime! Although... Sympathy? Sure, sympathize the tragedy of all the Gunpla he will never build, but beyond that, sounds like an bizarre complaint to make about him. Unless we are supposed to lament that such a /m/an has been reborn as a trap, then I suppose there could be cause, depending on your taste.

it's not like I can remember an isekai that HAD a proper introduction before the change of world happened either... at least not recently:
KonoSuba: Kazuma walks out of his room to buy otaku goods and BOOM gets trucked ReZero: Subaru walks out of a 7eleven and BOOM, new world
if anything that seems like par for the course that is the fantasy "reborn in a new worl" genre

Wait, why shouldn't we sympathize with someone who loves to build model kits?
Do people have to be bullied when they were young, go through troubling times with poverty levels of money, or be abused by their parent before we should sympathize with them?
I bet if it was an approved and non-otaku hobby, the writer of the article would be more sympathetic.
edit: do these guys on ann even know anything about the original source before they write these anime reviews. or even know japanese.

Strange. I'm reading the Vertical released translation of Bakemonogatari, and although its all English, I'm "hearing" the voices as if they are the same VAs as in the anime.

Pretty standard when you read a book after watching adaption of it. Most prominent I've experienced is lord of the rings. Just can't not see and hear all the actors. Some say it distorts the enjoyment of a read as you have preconceived ideas of the characters but I'm a bit more up in the air on it.
|
To me it depends on if the adaption holds up to the source material (accepting the flaws/constraints that come with a live action/animated medium)
If it holds up it doesn't affect my enjoyment significantly either way. If it doesn't hold up, it can be a bit annoying.
To bring up an example, i'm reading Jurassic Park right now and it was one of my all time favourite movies as a kid (and i still think it's a stellar movie) and while the book is significantly different from the movies i feel the movie holds up (Even if some characters are pretty different, like Hammond) But yeah i'm definitely envisioning the characters as their movie counterparts, and it's not really negatively impacting my enjoyment at all
