Also today's JoJo episode will be hype as fuck, the second half of Sheer Heart Attack has some of my favorite moments from DIU so I can't wait !

Isn't that the point of streaming that there is no region lock? Do you pay less than american people?

CR sub here is € 5 a month, it's not quite as awful for seasonal stuff but it's still pretty bad. Also bonus image lol

Do you pay less than american people? no, it's always been like that. I still remember that the last time I checked was while Railgun-S aired (MAL says Sep 2013) and it was like 5-6 shows total that you could get from germany? So 1) that's actually an improvement 2) It might be better in Germany than other european countries simply due to population There was actually a pretty nice article on that on MAL a while ago, let me see if I can find it. Long story short, they're pretty much just getting rights for the english speaking market (US + Australia + UK?) as a "pack" and it just makes no sense given how small Anime is in European countries to negotiate something with each and every country for a couple pennies. So it just never happens

This isn't even getting into the issue of older shows falling out of license then vanishing from legal means. On September 09 2016 17:22 Miragee wrote: They don't even need to localize the shit. Again it's not about localization but about getting the license to broadcast that show in that country. It's just not worth it for an outside company to try do that. Then again I'm not 100% sure on how European law works, does each country have it's own licensing or can they license the "EU"? I assume the former based on what's happening currently.

It's frustrating since personally I want to give money to the stuff I watch but the world just doesn't want to let me do it legally. What as a consumer am I meant to do then? This isn't even getting into the issue of older shows falling out of license then vanishing from legal means. Funny, that's what I was thinking just now as well...

So it just never happens "given how small anime is in european countries" France says hello, granted france is an outlier compared to the rest of europe, but japanese media is fucking huge in france iirc the french manga market is the largest of any western country, for example

After seeing this I don't feel so bad anymore for using free services and downloads. I mean, why should I pay for something if the service they will give me is worse than what I can get for free? They don't even need to localize the shit. English subs would be just fine, wouldn't they? And Anime is becoming more and more popular all over europe. I'd think so too, but apparently not, idk. When I went watching Kizumonogatari because that got picked up by someone in Germany it ended up being german subs. So additional costs for them to translate it themselves and less they could offer for the rights to show it I'd assume. And I'm just sitting there asking myself why they didn't just use the english translation for a movie that you need to be 16 or older to get in anyways. I'd get it if we're talking about stuff for small kids but the 16+ population generally is able to understand english ![]() On September 09 2016 17:29 Miragee wrote: Funny, that's what I was thinking just now as well... yeah exactly same thing for me. I'm buying LNs and sometimes getting some BDs for myself on Christmas to get at least something but I'd certainly be willing to pay a bit if they actually had something they're streaming.

It's sad that we have at least two massive examples of "fighting" piracy in GOG and Steam yet no real progress outside of that sphere has happened. Ok this isn't quite true, Netflix and Amazon Prime seems to be following similar concept rather well. Maybe it's just the fact that Japan is so insanely behind the times when it comes to certain aspects of tech. On September 09 2016 17:37 Unleashing wrote: Honestly as a western fan, if you want to support the creators you're mostly better off spending money on merchandise than subscribing to a streaming service. That still requires BDs to get licensed, subs and at a cost that isn't $100 per 2 episodes. Other merch is harder at least for me since textile duties are fucking massive here and I'm not a figure kind of guy. At least I have 17 vols of Spice and Wolf ;(
