If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.ggFor currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net |
lol @ school days i had never heard of it before and checkd it out on imdb... not a very good rating ;]
from all the others u guys recommended that i checked out on imdb im gonna start off with FMA Brotherhood. As i understand it theres a previous version from 2003 but the new one is just a remake which follows the manga more closely, which is a good thing im assuming. So i guess ill watch the 09 series.
I also checked out Hajime no Ippo and it got good ratings also so ill check that one out also. I dont mind that its about boxing as long as its good....It reminded me a little of Captain Tsubasa (supercampeones in spanish) which i used to watch when i was little and i LOVED. So ill give it a go.
Elfen lied got rlly good ratings alo so i might give that a go...hope its not too cheesy.
And meltzu yeah i just realized u made that post thanks for ur recommendations! actually im gonna check out toradora now even though its alot of drama just cuz of the amazing reviews. GTO and Full Metal Panic sound good as well. Im not like hardcore into anime so id get lost in those sites you gave me but i should have enough for now with the recommendations u guys gave me. Im gonna check em out in this order: FMA Brotherhood (2009 series) toradora Full Metal Panic Hajime no Ippo GTO Elfen Lied
thanks! ;]

Why someone check anime rating on IMDB? http://anidb.net is very good recommended by meltzu also myanimelist is good too.

Which Anime website is the most reliable when it comes to ratings? I can never really decide whether I should trust ANN, MAL or ANIDB.
|
could someone recommend me some anime like Code Geass, where you have a genius level type strategist, like Lelouch, trying to do something :D
|
omg the second memoire for Bungaku Shoujo is so good, more Miu backstories makes everyone happy.
No really, happy stuff. >.>

Except its not like Geass at all, but its still genius strategists squaring off.
Which Anime website is the most reliable when it comes to ratings? I can never really decide whether I should trust ANN, MAL or ANIDB. None exist. The only thing ratings at any of those sites represent is popularity. How good an anime is, in terms of quality, largely comes down to what type of anime you like.
|
I know that it always comes down to subjective taste what kind of art one might like, however I think ratings can be a nearly-objective indicator when it comes to what the general anime fan might like. One other question though, can one explain to me why ANN, MAL and aniDB often have different ratings on shows? Are there some striking differences in the communities?

Do general anime fans like Naruto and Bleach?

Started watching Shigurui, first two episodes were really awesome. It's so intense it takes my breath away... Only gonna watch one episode a day, to increase the effect of this anime.
/edit: Ignore what triangle wrote, School Days isn't "required" viewing.
|
For the people who are new to this thread, school days is required viewing. Deal with it.
As for rankings, MAL is the best I've seen, but none of them are that good. The best is if you have a bunch of friends on MAL and you know what their tastes are. That way you can get a good estimate of how much you will like a show.
If you want recommendations, here's a good chart (although it's a couple years old so some recent stuff isn't on there). + Show Spoiler +

Now that you have posted that chart, I'm gonna have to waste a few more thousands hours of my life!
Thank you!

and yeah, that's one of the better charts out there, nevermind my personal preferences and how anything that recommended Seikai no Senki + Rakkyo would be automatic approve from me.

This. For example, "Special A", which is one of my favourite animes, is really low rated in anidb, but still it is really good. So don't just trust the ratings.
And HeavenS: np

I think Special A suffers a lot from the fact that it's essentially Ouran v2

But yeah, having Ouran getting an animation before Special A really made the latter suck, even on the animation end Bones was just way superior, etc. Special A didn't have much to field down to even the voices =/

If you check Code Geass from anidb, there's this handy "similar anime" section, and Death Note was recommended, but if you're more into mechas, Full Metal Panic!.

The only thing Geass and FMP have in common, are school elements and mecha.
I've gone two posts without calling Code Geass terrible, I'm doing good!
