Off topic a bit but I got a feeling that Sabos strength will be the closest we ever get to how strong Ace really was. We have seen that Aces strength was recognized by Whitebeard and Shanks but even throughout the Straw hat journey in the New World where Ace has already been I doubt we will get anything more concrete than what Sabo will show IMO(Though Ace was slightly stronger that Sabo in childhood).

Sabo, i would expect, will be stronger than ace was, considering there has been a time skip in between and general powerups all around

Luffy should probably be in the vicinity of Ace's power at his untimely death this point in time seeing how there's 3 years between them and Luffy got training directly from Silvers Rayleigh. That training allowing Luffy to catch up in 2 years instead of 3 — assuming you want to think of it as a linear power growth for them both, being similarly strong at the same age.
As for Sabo, he's probably as strong as Luffy or a perhaps a little weaker (which makes him still very very strong), seeing how he's lacking that D.

Luffy is stronger then Ace was when he died simply because he knows and used Haki. Ace never showed any use of Haki in his short amount of time seen fighting (besides showing he had conquers haki in a flashback).

That's a flawed argument considering Ace primarily used fire-based attacks when fighting — just like I can't remember ever seeing Aokiji using Haki, though he (and Ace) most certainly possesses the means to.

He used it in conjunction with the other two Almirantes to block the quake punch.

plus Ace was like in jail forever totally beaten up. He wasn't at his peak back in MarineFord.

His fight with BB showed that he clearly did not have much experience against those who would be capable of hitting him aka haki users. You can use haki for defense and observation too ya know.

besides weve seen pretty small amount of people actually use Haki as defense its been pretty much entirely offensive

What's to say Ace didn't have good haki for defensive purposes? Blackbeard said that it must have been a long time since he was last hit (due to his logia), and if you take Akainu into consideration, whose logia still worked against haki attacks, you could imagine that Ace could have had a similar proficiency against haki attacks. Especially at his level (like for Akainu), not getting hit for a long time, would imply a good defense even against haki users.
The fact of the matter is that it was Blackbeard's darkness fruit that nullified Ace's logia entirely, and his punch (maybe haki-infused? Oda did not draw haki-infused attacks differently back then) connected due to that (maybe haki defense being overpowered by haki offense? We cannot know at this point with just the art as evidence, because back then there was no difference as I previously stated).
Plausible, right?

To be frank, the only thing we know for sure is that Ace had flashy attacks. Big balls of fire, big pillars of fire, flying crosses of fire. Ace had one serious fight and he lost it.
Aside from that we have only seen him battle Smoker in Alabasta. Which tells us just about nothing.

Didn't Ace tie with Jinbe in a fight? So I guess you can kinda use Jinbe as a marker of how srong Ace should be.
|
What about the fight vs Jinbei that lasted 5 days that ended up in a stalement and Ace joining Whitebeard's crew?
|
I don't even remember that.

It was only mentioned but never shown I think.

To clarify, i dont really mind the concept of people being turned into toy slaves. Neither to i mind the concept of a dwarf race (especially not considering the norland foreshadowing in jaya). But having them both shoved into an already massivley stacked story arc, with an overblown relevance to the story compared to the actual exposition and development they have recieved, it does make them feels too much like a "Give the rest of the SHs something to do-device".
If the dwarves had more distinguisible individual design and personalities, i might have liked them. But as it stands i really cant tell one from another. They are painfully underdeveloped and monotone compared to, for example, the "angels" of skypeia, and the reason is painfully obvious: There has not been enough space for oda to really focus his attention on them because there is so much else going on in this arc. I hold firmly to the belief that if you cant do a concept proper justice, you might aswell not include it at all and save the idea for a better moment, because otherwise it just turns into a distraction.
To quote Shakespear: "Brevity is the soul of wit." Dont waste my time, keep things nice and simple. shoving as many elements and factions as possible into a story without proper exposition and screentime is not a very good idea and it is somewhat uncharacteristic of Oda.
You explain very well why you don't like the dwarves and the toys, but if Oda taught us something very important with a manga that started in 1997 is that we should have pacience because everything will make sense in the end.
It's true that they aren't very well explained and developed but i strongly believe this arc will make a somewhat valid use of them. They are exciting for me because of the backstory of norland, their strenght and smarts and especially because we have so few info on them. How? When? who? what will happen ? thats always good.
You are a guy that i consider very well informed and a lover of OP, but you lost a few points with these posts imo.
Because it's like you saying Fugitora is not exciting because you don't know nothing of them, or CP0 or that you don't care about the new Warlord of the other new Admiral.
This arc is great for me, Great villan, many misteries, many strong characters that we don't know nothing about, BIG MOM and Kaidou, new admiral, toys, dwarves, Celestial Angels and the riku family! Plus we even get fucking SABO and BB's underling

I thought you meant BB's Burgess, or in short BBB.
