Still not done with the flashback... It's been 7 chapters already. I feel like it could have been resolved in 3-4 chapters easily. Maybe I have a heart of coal but I don't really care about Kuma or Bonney, I just want plot progression. It feels like we've been reading filler for 2 months now. I hope you changed your mind because this is the saddest heartbreaking story I think Oda has put out. To the extent, I don't really care about the Strawhat's dreams. I wanna see Kuma and Bonney burn the world government down.
Even though we all are talking about the same cake (One Piece), Hyperbola eats only the icing (plot progression), and throws away all the sponge, buttercream, cherry, melted chocolate, etc (character story, world build, adventure settings, interpersonal relationship, etc), then proceeds to say that the cake is a lie.

At least the flashback is over, I'm gonna be rocking my grandkids in their cradles by the time Zoro fights Luffy for PK status.

You got it backwards, my friend. The plot is the core of the cake and the characters' sad backstories are the store brand whipped cream added last minute because you ran out of frosting. Kuma is a boring one dimensional character. So are Saturn and Bonney. The flashback didn't have any emotional effect on me because I've consumed enough media to know cheap artificial melodrama when I see it. Egghead already felt like a "filler" arc because there's so much more interesting shit going on right now and we're stuck on this bland island. And this recent flashback felt like double filler since it somehow managed to be even more boring than egghead itself.
Just take us to Elbaf already, Oda.

i dunno, a vegapunk assassination plot with saint saturn showing up personally to finish the job seems like egghead isnt just a filler arc to me. what we thought would be a pit stop is turning out to be pretty full with content and its been pretty good for me.
also kuma has never been boring. actually quite the opposite, hes been a mysterious figure ever since his introduction into the series and we definitely deserved his backstory. we got it now and its a tragedy we havent seen in one piece since aces death. there was nothing boring about it.

No talk on how Kizaru fed luffy and betrayed Saturn? Someone pointed out the bowl being held in Luffy’s frame is the same pattern as Kizaru’s ramen bowl and he’s in a different position between cuts to him. Light speed grocery shopper?

Yeah, I feel like Kizaru turning has been pretty heavily foreshadowed. He's friends with almost everyone he's supposed to fight here (Vegapunk, Sentoumaru, Kuma, Bonney), pictured in all the flashbacks (why was that necessary otherwise?) and even did the Nika dance with them. Talked about how much he hates his assignment and that was before Kuma showed up. Then gets hit by Luffy once and can't move for ages? He's either never been hit by anything before which seems unlikely or he's faking injury so he doesn't have to fight his friends.
Also, for good measure in Kuma's pretty dark backstory, I'd like to mention that there's still a chance Saturn himself is Bonney's father.

if saturns sperm still works after 800 years id be impressed

I don't think Kizaru really "turned". Rather, he just had his paternal instincts activate for Bonney. He's got plausible deniability since no one actually noticed what he did. He's still largely on the government's side, he just wants Bonney to get away. Kind of like how Aokiji let the Strawhats go twice during Water 7 because of his mixed feeling for Robin. Aokiji still worked for the government for quite some time afterwards and it was only when he got passed over for a promotion that he wound up quitting. Kizaru ain't leaving the Marines any time soon.

Kizaru gave Luffy the food? That would be actually a big point in One Piece. :0

Eh, I felt this chapter was pretty full of cliches. A guy traversed half the world in a hurry just to get impaled to save somebody on time. Then the big baddie guy turns out to be personally responsible for all the bad things Bonney ever experienced. Expected a little bit more out of this manga to be honest
|
You mean the guy who has been shown traversing the entire world, starting like 50 chapters ago, finally arrived? And then the bad guy is responsible for bad things happening to important characters?
|
Yeah, I don't feel it's necessary to do the whole "in the nick of time" urgency schtick by having the protector to show up and immediately take a bullet.
Bonney had plenty of reasons to have Saturn's guts already. But then the guy just randomly drops some lore revealing he also got her mother killed. The story kinda drops into a shonen trope of "the world is cruel but I have a chance to get even by punching this one guy in the face". Point is, I'm sure readers were already invested in the heroes lynching Saturn, and this "reveal" just feels unnecessary and thus doesn't really carry much weight.

What a start to the new year. OP plot is moving again
. . . Interesting to note that Kizaru chose to stop Frankie instead of Sanji
Robin is gonna survive 3 buster calls.... Buster calls while epic, is starting to lose its shine
|
Bonney hugging Kuma is one of the sweetest scenes of OP of all time... Finally she was able to meet her father again and was just able to convey all her feelings... She will forever treasure that moment I am sure.

Short lived pleasure, Kuma has been collecting death flags like other people butterflies. I'll be more than surprised, if he survives.
The rest is a bit up in the air, but I presume Bonney is going to survive. Not as sure about Vegapunk, strongly doubt his paths are going to make it.

Wow, Sanji (almost) did something... but it looks like we're gonna have to wait for Luffy to wake up before the Straw Hats actually accomplish anything.
More importantly, Saturn just foreshadowed that he's gonna find the ancient robot soon. We might actually get some plot progression! I need my girl Robin to get out of bed and start driving this manga forward again.

Guys... For real. This entire chapter could've been like 4 pages.
