Kaidos doesnt look soft or weak at all, to the contrary hes making everyone he fought minus Big Mom look like a chump, and Luffy has had to go up against him multiple times after healing while Kaido has basically been fighting non stop. No matter how you look at Kaido hes been shown to be an utter beast. | ||

They were literally running away. This is a classic RPG lowering of status. Its also straight cannon in the OP Marineford arc. Almost all the instances of major Whitebeard officers losing an encounter (Jozu and Marco come to mind immediately) are in response to them experiencing extreme negative emotions. The answer is that prime Shanks >>> Almost Dead Whitebeard, even if prime WB > Shanks. I'm just waiting until admirals show their power. It's getting more obvious and one piece fans still deny this. I honestly dont understand it. I remember when people like you said doffy = admiral or luffy is now equal to admiral after time skip. And then it was katakuri = admiral. Now people are backtracking to say admiral is slightly below yonko level. It's just waiting game now until people see the obvious truth to all of this. Honestly, I'd much rather have Luffy's fruit remain some C rank paramecia that no one gives a shit about, but it seems like the story is pointing in the other direction, with it being some kind of chosen one fruit once you awaken it. | ||

If they are talking about the Gomu Gomu no Mi then Im going to be disappointed because ignoring the "protagonist must have uber specialness!!!" nature of it, it also just feels like very convenient storytelling, and I find it out of place in OP. I hope its something to do with Zou itself, or just almost anything that the World Government shouldn't have had colossal amounts of obvious intel on. | ||

the only character who is even close to awakening a fruit is luffy, and given that his fruit was specifically protected by the wg before, i dont see how theres any other candidate. im gonna guess that the power of luffys devil fruit isnt actually rubber or elasticism, but some other tangentially related power. ive been looking up as many theories as i could about luffys fruit though and havent been able to find a satisfactory answer, even from the hardcore one piece nerds | ||

Im honestly not even sure they mean awakening in the way that refers to Devil Fruits, possibly an issue with translation. Not to mention the issues with the statement, "That fruit is nothing but a legend for us, even now!" but they knew of and were in possession of the Gomu Gomu no Mi before Shanks stole it, they were in active possession of the fruit like what, a decade ago? The chapter is just constructed REALLY weirdly to be talking about the Gomu Gomu no Mi. I'm not saying its impossible or even improbable that they are talking about the Gomu Gomu no Mi, just that a lot of contextual clues indicate to me that its very possibly something else. | ||
