Yeah, went from getting mid diff'd by doffy to being able to tank thunder baigu from hybrid kaido, 10000x beatings from big mom to using hax df awakening power in matter of weeks haha

Tbf his DF was always a bit broken and he's tag teaming BM.
But yes the amount of punishment he can take when before he was a bit of a glass cannon is surprising to say the least. Then again OP never was really consistent when it came to battles and imo that never was it's selling point either.

Was that a nuke that dropped with Big Mom?
Why does Kaido even bother with those comically oversized conventional bombs if he has nukes at his disposal?

Just read a cool theory about Luffy's awakening power and the true identity of the Gomu fruit. It's actually the Keshigomu fruit, aka an eraser.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keshi
His awakening would enable him to "erase" things... which could mean anything from punching holes in things to perhaps erasing someone from history.
Seems like everything falls into place neatly with this theory: the legendary sun god Nika, Who's Who getting fired for losing the fruit, the Gorosei freaking out about a hidden devil fruit that's about to awaken, and Luffy being in the perfect position to awaken his fruit just like Law and Kidd just did.
|
Luffy having the rubber fruit isn't a secret, why would they freak out now? If I was the Gorosei, I would keep tabs on the fruit ever since it disappeared and manage its ownership.
Isn't it still unclear how awakening works and what are the conditions? Why would Luffy be in a better position to awaken than 2 years ago?

Look at these panels. The Gorosei mentioned that the fruit is a legend, even to them, and say the the world government (not them) gave a specific name to this fruit. This seems to imply that the decision to hide the fruit came before their time and it's not even something that they're fully aware of, given that it's a legend.
Furthermore, just before they mention the fruit they talk about erasing a nuisance and that a war with the Yonko could end up with someone dying. Now it could be that they were talking about Nico Robin here, but clearly they are trying to capture her not kill her. Why would they bother kidnapping someone they could just kill? Clearly there's another nuisance that they want dead and they hope they'll die in a battle with Kaido/Big Mom. I'm pretty sure this is Luffy.
As for what triggers awakening, I don't know 100% but I'm assuming it's the same thing as what levels up Haki - being in a desperate battle. Knowing Oda and typical shonen stereotypes, that's usually where powerups come from, and it just so happens that Luffy is in a desperate battle right now. That's why he's currently the perfect candidate to awaken his fruit. Two years ago, he was still a newbie that didn't even know Haki. Now that he's on the same level as Yonko, the danger of him actually awakening his fruit is much higher than when he could barely take on a Shichibukai. This is why it's such a concern for the Gorosei

Alright, your first point makes sense. The fruit has a specific name, so it would have been hard to tie to the rubber fruit.
I guess it can't be Law either, since the Marines are fairly aware of the fruit. But what would give them the cue to link Luffy's fruit to the legendary fruit now?
If awakening is triggered only with a high-pressure battle situation, then the conversation does make sense. The OP world sure is chaotic, one person's traits are able to change world politics.

Wouldnt the WG have given a kill on sight on Luffy if his fruit was so dangerous?
|
I hope thats not the case. I think itd be more interesting if Luffy's creative applications of the fruit is what makes it amazing, not that the fruit has a secret application.

|
Not to mention that the Navy had the fruit when Shanks stole it, so they've been in literal possession of the Gomu Gomu no Mi before, why would they consider something a legend if their organization had the actual thing.
Its just very suspect writing for them to be referring to Luffy's fruit imo, even if I think its probable that they are.

Also, that young Big Mom... now I understand why she's had so many children with so many people!
|
What I love about OP is the chapters are so meaty, loving it.
|
Now that was some hardcore fight scene. And what a fucking cliffhanger!
|
oh my god how is the fight going to end now?!
|
I hope this fight gets the Mugen Train treatment, one big long epic ass movie
|
What an insane chapter...
|
Even if Luffy got his shot in, I don't think it would have been enough. I don't get it how tough Kaido is supposed to be, he seems invincible.
I also don't get why Luffy is duking it out with regular attacks, wasn't the "penetrating Haki attack" his trump card previously?
|
Luffy's gonna get CTE if he keeps getting knocked out like this
|
I think all of his attacks are penetrating Haki attacks at this point, Kaido is just an absolute and utter beast
Im kind of glad that its looking like Luffy will lose, really sells what absolute monstrosities the Yonkou are.
Big Mom lost but it at least was a serious 2v1 against two very strong opponents.
