Absolutely pathetic, naive decision making. As if he learned nothing from his years as a pirate.
This is assuming that Oden would have been able to defeat Kaido if he had not bitched out. And Kaido is, as far as we know, immortal, so I kinda doubt Oden would have won even without the trick.
considering the wound i kinda think that shows Oden is capable of killing him, his immortality is more the unhurtable kind then the sticking his head back on kind
Oden has shown hes capable of hurting him, but it doesn't seem like that translates to being able to defeat him, much less kill him. Kaido just looked more angry than anything else after Oden cut him in that fight.
I mean, his initial plan was to cut his head off while he slept, he seems plenty capable of doing that, given Kaido had to resort to using Momonosuke (not literally, but you get the point) against him says a lot about how Oden vs Kaido 1v1 could play out, and I don't think Oden has a particularly bad shot at knocking Kaido's ass out of the sky, especially given Kaido's propensity for being drunk off his shit.
I wasn't expecting what cut him to look similar to Zoro's techniques. I hope this is foreshadowing on the behalf of zoro and the Straw hats ability to defeat him.
The difference with Oden & Zoro is that, Oden has the ability to use Haki. I don't recall zoro ever using a strike that was infused with it. His strikes are devastating and island cutting, but it seems to me that Haki is > all.
Zoro has just learned about the samurai technique of infusing swords with your haki (the sword of Oden given to him by Hiyori sucked his arm dry). If any people other than Luffy will be involved in beating Kaido, Zoro will be amongst then.
i'm not on about anything. I just have terrible recall regarding one piece.
With that being said, i'm enjoying the direction it's going. I theorize that garp might reveal to luffy how he beat kaidou and bigmom or that garp might get serious again since the recent chapters have shown the marines getting involved and garp being the messenger etc.
Kaido is "immortal" because nothing can pierce through his dragon scales. Oden was able to slice through Kaido's scales because of Enma's ability to draw out excessive amounts of Haki from the user.
I think he could have easily sliced Kaido's head off if he got a clean hit. You have to take into account that swords are nerfed in One Piece and usually only perform shallow cuts on people instead of slicing off limbs. The fact that Oden was able to leave such a significant scar on Kaido demonstrates that it was a very serious cut, not just a flesh wound.
However, we never did get to see if Oden would be able to take Human form Kaido in a fight. From what we've seen, Kaido starts off in Dragon form for mobility and area of affect damage and then switches to Human form to finish strong single targets off with his Kanabo. Personally, I think Oden would have been able to defeat human form Kaido with a pyrrhic victory just because it makes for a better story - and makes his failure that much more upsetting and dramatic.
His skin being the root of his invincibility makes little sense to me. Considering that he was captured and sentenced to death multiple times and he's an ability user, surely someone would have tried drowning him. With Kaido even looking to commit suicide because he can't die, drowning himself would be high up the list of options he'd try.
There's also Jack surviving underwater after his ship got smashed by Zou. With him being one of the top members of the crew of a seemingly immortal captain I don't think that's a coincidence. My guess is it doesn't have to do with Kaido's abilities specifically rather than something else that affects him and his higher ups.
Side note, I think it's quite funny that all three of his top executives have zoan fruits of beasts that have died out in nature. Oda is really playing with this theme of unnatural survival in Kaido's crew.
It's been confirmed that Jack is a giant grouper fishman so he can breathe underwater.
Kaido is also referred to as "the strongest creature alive" so I'm lead to believe that he's not human. And if that's true then perhaps he's a creature that can breathe underwater. It could also be a function of his devil fruit since it is said in eastern legends that carp can become dragons if they swim up some sacred waterfall - hence why a Chinese dragon may be able to breathe underwater.

I disagree Kaido's "immortality" is due to his dragon scales. His intro back in the day pretty much completely went against it. They tried to hang him, but the rope broke. They tried the guillotine, but the blade broke. They tried to impale him like Roger, but the spears broke. And this is all in a sequence where he jumps off of a Sky Island, in human form, and survives just fine. And through all of this sequence, it describes Kaido as someoe who is looking for a place to die, because presumably he hasn't found a way to die yet. If him being able to die was just "don't turn into a dragon so you don't get dragonscales", then he should definitely be dead by now.
Kaido definitely isn't human. He'll probably end up getting classified as an Oni or something. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out hes the same race as Oars is. Although granted much smaller in size compared to Oars or Little Oars jr., hes still a horned giant.

His scales still exist when he's in human form, they're just not visible. He's a dragon man, just like Luff is a rubber man.
>can't hang him >can't slash him >can't stab him >can't kill him with gravity
All of it makes sense if he's got impervious dragon scales. Keep in mind this is comic book logic, so if you have impervious skin then nothing can hurt you. Like this scene from Luke Cage for instance: .
Notice the emphasis on "skin". Luffy's punching through steel but he can't punch through Kaido's skin. It's clearly illustrated that this is the issue with attacking Kaido. He's impervious.

I disagree about his scales always being present. Luffy is always rubber, but Luffy is Paramecia, while Kaido is Zoan. Zoan users have always had to transform into their animal form to get the physical benefits of their power. Like Rob Lucci had to transform in order to get claws, for example. He didn't just have hidden sharp claws in his person form.
Well, regardless, there's clearly something that gives his flesh near-indestructibility, which is where his unkillable reputation comes from. I think it's his dragon scales - but I suppose that it could be something else. We'll just have to wait and see.
