I actually enjoy the personality traits. While some characters might be naive and simplistic, the duality of the scenario attempts to portray leadership by people who are just directly honest, to a very innocent extent. You get the contrast of those who take advantage of them who are manipulative and powerful but on the opposite end of the spectrum you have those who gained power through collaboration and friendship.

It is also a quite a common scenario where there are a bunch of CEO's who are only experts in 1 particular area and know nothing of anything else. I may be diving too deep into this arch, but it is a reoccuring theme that does draw a comparison to a lot the 1 piece captains. Oden, in particular, has some of the same traits as all the leaders including luffy. The dynamic of personality traits also ends up supporting the main over-arching theme which is the power of friendship.

With that being said, just like everyone else i'm starting to suspect Oda is attempting to weave into the plot that something about The waters of Japan or this particular island, has an innate affect on one's ability to endure. I'm going on a limb here but i predict there is soemthing special about the waters that mitigate Seastones canceling out devil fruit powers, and would also explain why Kaido / Oden is so resilient. It would also make sense despite the fact the water has been polluted but in turn gave everyone stronger stomachs and more immunity. The kid in the beginning of the plot was supposed to have starved to death along with many of the villages, but hasn't died and all have still survived.

If i were to further build upon this logic, the pollution of the waters due to Slime/Weapons production ended up giving them a mutation or Extention of the devil fruit abilities.

TLDR: Prediction: slime/weapon's production and pollution of the water made Devil fruit users more resilient to being killed off by water and or canceling out of devil fruit properties. Those who live in these waters end up being more resilient because of it despite them being knowledgeable of it or not.

I see thanks. but then how were the others able to get in the pot? The dialogue and art doesn't support them being on the plank first. I suppose they can jump across the chasm but again the dialogue and art doesn't really support this. It's not that important anyways.

I used to think the traitor was Shinobu but now I'm less certain. There are basically no other alternatives though. Maybe they got some blackmail on her and are forcing her to work against the samurai.

I think this is the final flashback. Everything is set up now. We know for sure who Kyo is and what happened. We know that he must have set up something to counter Orochi and the plan will start to be shown next chapter.

There should be another flashback chapter. Catdog gets captured by a mysterious silhouette which is probably the benkei ogre that was never really explained.

Random thoughts: Oden baths with his children but seperately from the wife. Hiyori and the kappa doesn't get transported to the future for no reason. Hiyori was right next to toki the entire time. Toki made her escape on a horse somehow, even though she can teleport herself to the future and she was supposed to have died in the fire. Toki is the spy? Hiyori leaves the kappa for no reason at all. It was pure coincidence that angry face denjiro met Hiyori. Honestly this flashback chapter was all a mess.
