Bleach is very popular outside Japan in the sense that tons of people read it. It's just that everyone that reads it hates it
When you say popular in Japan, do you mean that it sells well, or that the fan reception on manga forums is really good?

i actually stopped reading the last 7ish chapters of the aizen fight. I don't think bashing something on the internet preys on "safeness" or "easiness" it just doesn't compair to other mangas based on the values that we hold. I think people are generally pretty honest when they can hide behind the internet and say it.
But anyways, i actually like this new arc, not cause i see a lot of potential in it, its just something NEW. I'm sick of the Ichigo lvls up story line of the last X arcs. And this arc may go back to that but with a significant time skip, new characters and CURRENTLY no powers im interested. How long this lasts... i dunno.

You also need to take into account that this is teamliquid a site dedicated to SC not manga. If you check the onemanga forums for example it is more positive about Bleach even though there are a lot of critics there too. On the manga forums you'll find the passionate fans that defend their favorite series.

If Ichigo comes back with all his powers, it will be like the silliness of this arc that we just saw. All of the captains become as strong as Ichigo for no reason and it turns out everyone was stronger than Aizen all along.
I think Kubo wrote himself into a corner, making Aizen uber strong. Having the entire SS under his hypnotism was cool in the SS arc, but afterwards, it was like "Wait a minute, that's kinda imba, isn't it?" so he had to make Ichigo all of a sudden ridiculously strong. For the next arc, he would have to either make every single character not named Ichigo useless, or make the captains all of a sudden power up like crazy
Making weak little Karin the new main character would prevent the whole "Oh, we were all stronger than Aizen all along lol" and would also have the added benefit of keeping Ishida/Chad/Orihime relevant. Whatever Ichigo was doing, Ishida/Chad/Orihime were so far behind in power that they were gonna be completely useless, but with a new main character, they can all power up together and they'll be more useful to each other, so we won't have this weird "Wow, all of the main characters are completely useless and will just hinder Ichigo" feeling.
It's not gonna happen, but I really hope Karin becomes the main character. Then, I may read Bleach for reasons other than "for the lols"
I agree. They should at least have an arc or two with her as the main character and with Ichigo as just a side character, acting as more of a guide than as the hero. That would be a lot more interesting! <3

So...what if Ichigo is the new Rukia and Karin is the new Ichigo (except without all the sexual tension)?

I liked the first 100 chapters so much because I actually CARED about the characters and their relationships. I saw characters grow and step into certain roles and out of others. The last 200 chapters have just been like pew pew, slash/bash. Geehrharehahraher!

Karin actually being the new lead would be kinda interesting actually...

this feels like filler, but in a manga

What the fuck is this shit?
I'm done here.
Exactly how I feel. Except the stopping the end of the world was one of hte worst arcs EVER. and then to be reduced to this BS....
I pretty much only read now because its a click away from One piece on mangastream

Lets hope Karin becomes the new character i don't mind the plot switch and even in the latest chapter it states that Karin has the shinigami disposition that he usually has for some time. I don't mind Karin taking over for at least 1-2 arcs(spanning for at least 100 chapters? That would be coooool)
At least everything would become relevant again instead of Ichigo's powers being resummoned into existence due to some shinigami even more powerful than aizen coming to screw things up. Oh Bleach, how many of us readers out there are pessimistic yet optimistic at the same time, we whine about your very chapters yet we come back to read more in hopes that finally something good has came out after all.
Please grace us with a solid, better arc compared to the Aizen arc

I think Kubo really needs to get a writer for his story. His art is great but the plot makes me t.t He literally stalled for like three years with non-stop battles.

I am actually amazed people are complaining so much about the new arc when they have no idea what's going on whatsoever.

two words: tite kubo
Bleach is a roller coaster. It gets really high but then goes super low.
It was going ok during the fake karakura battle. Then Aizen leaves and it got REALLY good for a few chapters, but Kubo pulls out the "oh cant kill Aizen lolololol". That to me is the lowest moment in the years Ive been reading bleach. Kubo should have let Gin kill Aizen. That to me was brilliant. Then he seriously just ruined it.
It's like The Village. You have a GREAT movie for an hour and a half and then you just throw it out the window and piss everyone off.
Seriously though, no one dies in Bleach unless they are a good character.
BTW Aizen's sword was the worst decision Kubo ever made.
BTW2 bleach isnt that popular. One Piece is popular.

That guy in the end panel resembles Renji a lot.

<facedesk>
If Bleach is to seriously continue, let Karin become the new protagonist.
Ichigo should just resign to being the future Isshin when another main protagonist arrives.
Also, Kubo should hurry up and resolve all loose ends. What the hell was with Aizen raging agains the Soul King and yet we don't get a glimpse of it? Balls.

One Piece is popular. i agree that gins story was brilliant and i loved the character ever since i first saw him talk to kenpachi and shoot ichigo out of the court of pure souls.
but back to the general story of bleach. we literally dont know anything about it at all. we dont know who ichigos father is, we dont know who aizen is, the story of urahara, isshin and ryuuken (ishidas dad) and i feel like we are in for a major surprise. you saw that gin followed aizen from way back as "a snake strangeling his target", that the death of tosens accomplice also seemed to have to do with aizen (if im not mistaken) and all these things could explain the strangeness of aizens power. if you take your chances and look at it like this, all the episodes up to now become nothing but a very drawn out buildup, an introduction, sort of a long filler for the real behind the scenes story to come in and be explained. now if kubo screws that one up and disappoints here, then i will agree with all of the negative perception you fellows in the thread share of it. but im patient. i want to know/learn.
we also dont know where the second hogyouku came from, or do we?
