I watched the trailer not knowing what the movie was even about, but my university's movie theater shows movies for free and this happened to be one of them. There's a lot of stories that seem unrelated at first, but they all come together at the end. Although, I had to spend some time putting some of the stories together. Cloud Atlas doesn't seem to have one general plot, but rather multiple stories with different genres set in many different time frames. I absolutely enjoyed all of the stories. I would definitely recommend this movie if anyone has some time to kill or are simply curious. Quite possibly in my top ten list of best movies I've seen.
If you liked this movie, i would suggest watching The Fountain by Darren Aranofsky. It is a more simple movie (3 storylines) with a slightly more complex meaning behind it, and amazing visuals.

Watched a couple movies this weekend.
Zero Dark Thirty
![[image loading]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/77/ZeroDarkThirty2012Poster.jpg/220px-ZeroDarkThirty2012Poster.jpg)
Pretty well done. There were some very tense moments and the raid was very interesting to watch. As always, I enjoyed watching the CIA bureaucracy. It was interesting to watch the war on terror play out over the years, from behind the scenes. Though I don't know how accurate it all was. 8 /10
Ted
![[image loading]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/62/Ted_poster.jpg/220px-Ted_poster.jpg)
I thought it was pretty funny. Though I was high, and it was 3 in the morning so my view may have been a bit distorted.
7 /10

Branded
One of the smartest movies in recent years. I think it was even better than Thank You For Smoking in portraying the modern marketing (it was quite disturbing even). It starts slow but boy is it worth it.

5 Centimeters Per Second (2007) - 9.1/10

Visually beautiful, great soundtrack, and who doesn't enjoy a good movie about teenage love and loss and all that?

I want to watch this, just noticed it's on netflix now, been waiting for that for a long time.
I thought his The Place Promised in Our Early Days was utterly amazing, can't wait to see even more of what this guy can do with anime.

![[image loading]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/69/Perfume_poster.jpg) Perfume: Story of a Murderer 8/10 Visually stunning, strong lead character and a great story. Basic premise is that a kid is gifted with an extremely acute sense of smell and becomes an apprentice perfumer. One day he smells something on a particular woman he had never smelt before, and he sets off in creating the perfect perfume that captures that same scent. You can guess what will happen next from the movie's title. My only complaint is what happens immediately after the climax: + Show Spoiler +. Made me burst out laughing because of how random and off-putting the entire scene was.
![[image loading]](http://content7.flixster.com/movie/11/16/85/11168525_det.jpg) 7 Psychopaths 5/10 Fucking terrible. It seemed like a lame rehash of Robert Rodriguez's and Guy Ritchie's work. Wasn't quite campy enough to be fun, wasn't witty enough to come off as a satire, and wasn't intense enough to be a solid action flick. Don't really know what the hell it was going for. And every single one of collin farrel's character's lines made me cringe really badly.
![[image loading]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/68/Black_Swan_poster.jpg/220px-Black_Swan_poster.jpg) Black swan 7/10 natalie portman's character was great. There were times where I thought she was being a bit over the top with the naive, sheltered girl act but otherwise the gradual shift to paranoia and obsessive insanity was well done. I also liked the camera-work a lot. There was one shot of Natalie spinning during practice, and the camera suddenly takes on her perspective as she's spinning and looking at the director's face. It was both really disorienting and awesome.

The Fifth Element

By all means this movie will not rate highest in terms of story, acting, props, or budget. But it was very entertaining. Humorous at parts and really weird and sexy at the same time. I really enjoyed watching it.

Has anyone gone to watch a movie (in a theatre) by themselves? Zero Dark Thirty just released in Australia and I'm interested in the subject (been reading a lot about terrorism etc in the past few months) and I want to watch it ASAP... but it would mean watching by myself.
Is that weird? Is that something people do?

I've always gone to movies by myself. I can't imagine going with other people, seems awkward. Movies are supposed to be an immersive experience and having someone else beside me will probably kill it. That's just me though.

Is that weird? Is that something people do? ha, coincidentally I did this for zero dark thirty because no one wanted to see it. Who cares? I see people do this all the time. Plus, it's not really the type of movie for the audience to respond to (e.g. laugh, scream, etc.) so you'd just be sitting in a dark room with friends in silence, for 2.5 hours anyways.

That's interesting - I feel exactly the opposite way. Going to see a great movie with a friend(s) and experiencing it with another person that you know appreciates good cinema as much as you feels so much more fulfilling than if I saw the great movie just by myself. It's actually a big reason I love going to the movies with my girlfriend. When we pick apart the movie afterwards, she often provides really refreshing perspective on a scene or setpiece that I may not have considered.
But I totally understand the perspective of full immersion as well.

The orgy scene was not only not random but nowhere near off-putting. It was essential to what the movie was trying to say.

Best revenge film I've ever seen. It's about a brother who comes back from the army to his town in N. England after his younger brother died. He seeks redemption for the drug-latennt hooligans that caused his death and got no punishment. The film is fantastic and the soundtrack is even better.

I don't just cause I don't like to spend so much money going to the theater all the time to see what usually turns out as mediocre movies, so I mostly only do it as a social occasion, but if not for that I would go by myself.

Which is why going to the movies is by far the best thing to do if you're on a date with a boring girl.
I don't have that much experience, but if I know one thing about the dating world, it's this!
