Fricking good movie. I watched the London broadway a longggg time ago and though my memories of it were quite vague. As soon as some of the songs started, I felt chills all over my body. It's crazy how powerful the songs are, especially the 'do you hear the people sing', it's damn moving and brought all the memories back. I am really happy that the movie managed to preserve the essence of the play and being an awesome movie that can closely matched with the play. Acting was GREAT as expected. The singings are not completely at broadway level, but there were more emotions attached and with the cinema works, they managed to bring out the characters' emotion well enough. It was the only movie that I have ever had audience clapping loud and whistling TWICE in the cinema. A movie about Love, Hope, Redemption, Dream and Life imo.

![]() http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0300140/ Possibly the most depressing movie I have ever seen. It's about a 16 year old girl who is forced into prostitution due to her circumstances + Show Spoiler + and later falls victim to human trafficking

![]() Not one of the better Jia movies I've seen, but still some good stuff in there. Seems to have a bit of a lack of focus overall. The Chaser (2008) - 8.2/10 ![]() Lots of good tension; great atmosphere and locations. The chase scenes are a bit odd and some of it's kinda cliche, but overall very well done and good stuff.

![]() "Silver Linings Playbook" - Not going to say its the best movie of the year, cause "The Master" is, but its really good. Your heartstrings will be pulled.

![]() The acting was great. The cinematography was good. The story was cool. I didn't realize there'd be as much singing as there was; probably about 95% of all dialogue was through song. Personally, I would have left a few more choice parts as spoken words, but it didn't matter that much. The singing was generally solid. The weakest being Russell Crowe, and even he did alright. Anne Hathaway probably had the most solid performance. Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Carter did a good job providing a lighter tone to the film. The movie dragged on a little long for my tastes. And I felt the climax was a little lacking. The action was weak and distracted me a bit from the movie, but its not what the movie was about, and so bears little significance other than making me cringe. There were also a couple cheesy moments, I thought could have been toned down. Overall, 8 /10 Oh, also, the over abundance of religious imagery grated on me a bit. Just too much. But maybe that's what its supposed to be like... I don't really know, it just got tiresome

Argo: 8.5/10 Good movie, great story -- suspenseful, gripping and fun! Les Mis: 7.5/10 Mostly good performances -- disappointed in Russel Crowe's Javert, and though Marius sounded a bit like Kermit, but still was great. Unbeatable story. This is 40: 6/10 Super bipolar movie -- The first act was delightful, second was despicable (as became the characters) and the resolution left me not sure whether I liked it or not. Hitchcock: 7/10 Hopkins' Hitchcock was fun and clearly strong, but IMO Helen Mirren stole the show. Fun (and informative!) movie w/ some great moments. Hated Danny Huston. The Hobbit: 7/10 Thought it was relatively plodding and alternated between incredibly predictable and totally arbitrary for maybe 70% of the time, but was an as-expected fun and beautiful adventure of a movie. Like seeing an old friend ![]() 21 Jump Street: 8/10 Having been totally surprised by it when I saw it in theaters (expecting to hate it for it being dumb) watching it again knocked home how much smarter it was than I'd expected. Really fun, and Tatum-Hill work so well together. White Christmas: 9.5/10 So wonderful, really and truly we just don't have movies like this anymore. Probably biased by the holiday time and old-time-movie-nostalgia, but still just so delightful. Happy holidays, all!!

It's one of the greatest melodrama musicals of all time and that's what it's been about for the last twenty-five plus years when it comes to the stage, film and television. I guess your more familiar with the novel, but if you've seen the trailer you would know this one was going full-blown musical. ![]()

![]() If you're reading this thread, you've probably seen a lot of movies. "Too many" by society's standards. Well if you haven't seen this movie, you haven't seen it all. This is a musical about the rise of the Nazi party in WWII, the persecution of Jews, transvestites, burlesque theater, and abortion. It is also known for gratuitous sexual overtones. While hardly a "hidden gem" (been a classic since the 70s) this movie has a lot to offer in the realm of "out of the ordinary."

Rare Exports: A Christmas Story ![]() This is a very silly Finnish movie, seems more concerned with emphasizing the bizarre premise than with actually building it into a movie that has legs or ideas or character impact or even fun lore which could be cool (like in the sort of similar but better other Scandinavian movie I've seen recently, Troll Hunter). Worth it only for the off the wall factor.

Overall the animations were great as is to be expected from Japanese movies. The story was overused though. Humans are destroying the environment. OH NO. Pokemon Voice of the Forest and Ferngully were very similar. I think the movie's overhyped.

Worth it only for the off the wall factor. I just figured a mod just renamed the thread all this time, and I've always blamed the people who posted The Shawshank Redemption. You're right this thread is better anyway. On December 26 2012 14:27 obesechicken13 wrote: Saw Princess Mononoke Overall the animations were great as is to be expected from Japanese movies. I just didn't realize it was essentially alllll going to be singing. I don't watch musicals very often, so my recollection of their patterns is poor. But I figured most were about 50/50 in their dialogue delivery. I anticipated half singing, half spoken as normal dialogue. But it turned out to be like 95 / 5.
