Children of Men kills it, it might be the best post-2000 movie I've seen. Watched: Lovefilm ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066429/) ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/M1qGM.jpg) Saw this in class a few years ago where I knew immediately it was great but had to focus a lot on understanding what was going on and on analyzing what you could read from the visual shots (especially where there are discontinuities forced by real life circumstances). So I had to just watch it now as an experience to confirm what it was like, and it's one of my favorite movies ever. It's storytelling is off the wall awesome, basically following the thread of the main character's memory/thinking as it skips from one aspect of his life to another, usually triggered and linked by some image or location that he sees or that is part of the previous memory. The framing action is a trip he's taking from Hungary to France to see his lifelong close friend/girlfriend who left Hungary at the 1956 uprising and he hasn't seen in 10 years. Strongly embedded in it is the story of Hungary from WWII through the later 60's. I just think this is so powerful, and once you get the hang of it, the storytelling is perfectly evocative of memories. These aren't plot spoilers but a basic helper for following it right off the bat if anyone's interested: + Show Spoiler +There are 4 main important times depicted that it freely switches between as it follows Jancsi's rememberings: 1. The film's present, his trip to France in 1966-1967 or so 2. Children in World War Two 3. Children in the later 40's after the war 4. Older teenagers in mid 50's/1956 near the uprising (with the adult actors)
I want to get around to more Bergman films soon, I've only seen two, The Seventh Seal and Fanny and Alexander, loved them both though. Salo...I can't tell if I want to see it (probably not), mainly it would be for the curiosity of seeing if there could be anything of value in it. Your movie seems interesting, thanks.
My advice for Bergman (I haven't watched that many, i'd like to see Fanny and Alexander though) would be to watch first some of his earlier work, which is more light-hearted, Smiles of a Summer night or A lesson in Love (I liked the latter a lot more). Then I'd guess Wild Strawberries, The Virgin Spring and Scenes from a Marriage which are absolutely amazing but a bit more pessimistic ; then my two personal favorites, Persona and Cries and Whispers. Those last two are extremely dark and pessimistic though.
As for Salo, I'd say there is something of value in it, but I can't tell you if you should watch it or not. It's really really hard at moments, but it's pretty obvious Pasolini doesn't do it just to be provocative.

If you like watching/playing pool, you will enjoy this film. I'd compare it to Maverick, but pool instead of poker and a slightly more serious plot.
Maverick by the way is a fun watch, should check it out at the very least.

It's entertaining and a little suspenseful from time to time. One of the lighter roles I've seen Gibson play.

I wanna go back to Pokemon. Maybe watching this will let me learn some control. Watching this movie is like cutting yourself with a sheet of paper. It's scary as fuck so every time I have to pause it, I just dread unpausing it. No at this point it's just scary. I'm not going to learn anything from this. It's thundering out. I used to be more scared of thunder until I learned to count the seconds between the flash and sound.
Ok. I am going to set a timer. And I am going to go 30 seconds without pausing. That's long enough.
I think if I watched this with a cute girl it'd be a great way to let them grab on close to you, but I'm not man enough to watch this. I might be able to if I had to prove myself to someone near me. But not alone, in this tired state.
Someone said this move was funny. Yeah I suppose it does have funny bits, but that's like trying to find love in porn. Or humor in a horror movie. I've seen funny horror movies. Jennifer's body was a funny horror movie. >.>
Ok yeah. The ending's worth it.

Paranormal Activity 4 ![[image loading]](http://www.indiewire.com/static/dims4/INDIEWIRE/e94ea49/4102462740/thumbnail/680x478/http://d1oi7t5trwfj5d.cloudfront.net/46/5fdca0dbfa11e1baf122000a1d0930/file/paranormal-activity-4-new-trailer.jpg)
Well, this was just nice to watch. I remember I turned off the first one because it was really boring, but I enjoyed it. It starts to ramp up at the right time and has a string of moments to startle you. The first parts were good at building up suspense, and while some of the dialogue and acting was a bit off, overall pretty good. It does suffer from the jump-scare problem though, so that's one downside. 7.5/10 (5/10 for me means it was an okay watch)

![[image loading]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e3/Seven_Psychopaths_Poster.jpg) Amazing movie, though probably overshadowed by Argo. I recommend this to anyone who liked In Bruges -- not as atmospheric, but Walken more than makes up for it.

Pretty intense movie about a worldwide virus, its almost as good as "The Andromeda Strain," some scenes are chilling.
|
Rewatched the "Dollars Triology". Again.
"The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" is the best movie EVER. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

Currently watching Halloween (original). I love AMC Fear Fest

Found randomly on netflix instant. It's compelling and sort of interesting for a lot of the way through (because you are like, I can't tell if this is thought-provoking or totally bankrupt, which makes you think, although you slant more and more toward the latter as it goes on) but yeah, it turns out it's total self-indulgent garbage that made me want to vomit and punch the filmmaker in the face. At least it has multiple super attractive women in it.

If you like this kind of movies, you should check out Stickmen. Perhaps a bit more hardcore than Poolhall Junkies :D

The Last Boy Scout
![[image loading]](http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab265/evolutionfxbz/The-Last-Boy-Scout.jpg)
Damn, I should've watched this one years ago. Definitely one of the best action movies of the 90s, endless amount of one liners to quote.

Headhunters / Hodejegerne
It's a very good thriller set in Norway. The film is in Norwegian, but you can get a subtitled version. :D I think it's $4 to rent on iTunes. I didn't check if they have it on netflix (don't have an account).

Mission: Impossible II
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/PyoiZ.jpg)
I've always thought the first Mission Impossible is pretty awesome and I want to check out Ghost Protocol so I decided to try the rest of the series first. This one, my god is it stupefyingly terrible. The first hour and a half are just uninspired and normal bad, but then it kicks it up a notch into super brainless just sit back and let your mind be blown by the roller coaster of awful and Tom Cruise would-be-self-parody-if-it-were-anyone-else ham.

I watched a lot of movies these past two weeks so here it goes:
Ip Man 2
Was a good second movie but still it didn't manged to get to the same level as the first one. It lacked the plot and all the movie felt like it was only action movie, Don't get me wrong I wasn't looking to find a deep and meaningful plot, but I do feel like action movies SHOULD have a basic and a good plot in them. Loved the fight scenes(even though it felt that there were fewer), Donnie Yen doing a great job in both movies.
6/10 for me, a nice action movie.
Crazy, stupid, love.
Well this was my first movie of the 3 romantic comedies in my endeavor to find the best one out there. I won't waste much on this one because it was the same feeling I got after I finished watching it, that the movie writers didn't bother much to develop a good plot or try give a romantic touch. It felt like they said fuck it, we got Steve Carrell it will be OK. It had some funny parts but lacked a lot with the romance for me even a cliche one.
500 Days of Summer.
Well it was better than the first one, this was the movie that my friend recommended for me to be the best. I guess the ending wasn't the typical romantic comedy movie cliche ending but still it had some really boring moments, and the I feel like they missed it with the after the break up and how Tom should have been after "the one" dumped him.
50/50
I didn't like it at all. :\ My brother sat down to watch it with and went away in the middle of the movie, I felt the need to apologize to him about how bad the movie was.
Eastern Promises
I love Naomi Watts, I loved the film but it felt like it lacked something extra to make it really good. I had the same feeling with History of Violence. The ending was kind of a shuck, I was like... wait what? It's over? It just ended wired for me, maybe it was too good of an ending for me. Overall a good movie, watch it if your having a hard to time to find good movies like me.
Let the Right One In
I loved it. This movie have it all, the scary parts, sad parts, happy ones and the drama. And all greatly. The acting was great, I can't believe those were just kids playing in the movie. Maybe the best vampire film I watched.
Confessions
A must watch for me, wow I didn't expected this.

Crazy stupid love is such a fantastic movie. The plot is amazing. The twist and climax are hilarious. It is by no means a typical romantic comedy. More so just comedy.
|
Best romantic comedy IMO: High Fidelity. Although I'm not sure it's really in the genre, is it? Regardless, one of my favorite movies ever.
|
Best romantic comedy is The Ghost and Mrs Muir (amazing movie), then A Lesson in Love. If you're talking about the more modern genre with its very specific codes, I'd say When Harry meets Sally is actually pretty smart and funny.
