It was shot pretty cool, was nice to look at, but the story is pretty flimsy tbh. Got the impression they thought some big names together in a movie would make it a hit no matter what.

![]() Primer A fantastic mindfuck movie forcing you to think though several overlapping timelines at the same time. ![]() One of the most fucking amazing movies I've seen in awhile. It's a movie that will take it far beyond what you thought was reasonable and seriously goes into the situation with no limits. Satisfying to see the protagonist do what people call going down to his enemy's level instead of being conflicted with a high moral horse. The end just tore me in two. This man who had done nothing wrong in his life until his wife was brutally murdered is left with almost nothing in his life, deprived of his loved one, unborn child, and a battered family. When he's just walking down the road and starts breaking down, I felt so torn. Thanks for the war film rec's, but I have already seen all of them. It doesn't have to be recent wars, but can be medieval (Robin Hood), Japanese shogun(?) (The Last Samurai), Roman (Gladiator), etc. I'm just dying for some good large scale war movies.

It's very hard to describe this movie, but I would categorize it with "Pan's Labyrinth". I like movies that you can lose yourself in and will make you think for a long time after seeing it. Beautiful story. I give it a 10/10. My favorite character in the film has to be the "Pathfinder". He brings a great comic relief to an otherwise pretty serious and obscured plot. If anyone else has seen Ink, I'd like to hear their thoughts about it and any recommendations they may also have. Just finished watching this. Recommended. The opening scene about the moat was especially touching for some weird reason for me lol.

movies i saw in the last two weeks or so: the tree of life (2011) stopped watching after about 20 minutes. too alternative and pretentious really, i dont get it 2/10 for good actors and nice imagery in the part i saw drive (2011) almost made it through this, watched maybe an hour before i got so annoyed with the main character that i couldnt stand it any more. has a rating of 8.0 for some reason on imdb, so maybe i just dont get it, seemed like a mediocre b-movie with unnecessary violence to me 3/10 because there are worse movies i guess black swan (2010) darren aronovski is pretty much my favourite director. pi was awesome. requiem for a dream is in my top 5 movies ever. the fountain might be my favourite movie of all time. the wrestler was good. black swan is okay, a pretty good movie, but still disappointing in a way because its easily the worst movie aronovsky made so far 7/10 could easily be higher if it wasnt about ballet. who the fuck cares about ballet? stranger than fiction (2006) for some reason people compared this shallow, halfway funny halfway trying to be philosophical mildly amusing mediocre movie to masterpieces like being john malkovic or eternal sunshine. good enough to watch if you are really bored i guess 5/10 mediocre in every way rosemary's baby (1968) i saw this years back when i was a kid or teenager. really glad i watched it again, a real masterpiece. polanski made what can only be called a perfect movie. mia farrow as the lead actress is utterly amazing. the whole movie is just perfect. one of the best horror movies of all time (not for people who confuse gore-porn like saw with horror movies) 10/10 i cant find anything bad about this movie, its perfect. delicatessen (1991) french movie about a post-apocalyptic house of really strange people that eat other humans because thereis nothing left to eat. really strange in a tim-burton way, but gets progressively more silly, could only watch 2/3 of it until i stopped caring what happened 4/10 A for effort i guess since the actors are all good, the setting is nice and the imagery is really cool, but kinda pointless

I saw at first glance that I disagree with you on a lot of stuff you posted. Which in itself isn't a problem; tastes vary. But the reasons why you disliked the particular movies baffle me. The tree of life: I agree, the first half an hour of the movie, as well as the last 10 or so (although not to the same extent) are try-hard, and don't really help the movie at all. But you should have kept on watching. The real movie that starts after the 30-min-ish intro is wonderful and touching. Do yourself the favor and skip the first part and watch the core part. It's storytelling and observing unlike anything I've seen on film before. Drive: I loved parts of it, but I agree the main actor is kind of a turn-off. People say Ryan Gosling incorporates perfectly what the director wanted his main character to be, but I didn't like him really that much. I loved the movie's artsy style, and the retro feel it gave me. I can understand your rating though, it's really not a movie for everyone. Black Swan: Aronovski is great, I agree. Requiem for a dream is really good, as is the Wrestler. But how can you dislike Black Swan just because it's about ballet? Ballet isn't really the main part of the movie, it could have been any other sport or performing art without losing its grip. It's a psychological horror-ish movie that in the end leaves you with a "wow so that's what the movie was about"-feeling. The solution was less than I expected it to be and left me with slight disappointment; but disliking it because it's ballet? Why did you even watch the movie then, it's right up there in all the synopsises. Rosemary's baby: There I agree. Dunno about 10/10 but great movie. Didn't watch the rest. What surprises me is that you decide to watch those kind of non-hollywood productions - movies that tend to be artsy, not straight-forward or difficult to grasp completely - and then critisize them for the - sorry to use the word - shallow reasons. Maybe these kinds of movies just aren't for you.
