I get what George is saying, but I completely disagree. Nudity is taboo. Violence is not taboo, it's just illegal. Putting taboo things on a TV show immediately forces people recommending it to preface it. Unless you are recommending it to a male teenager, you will have to say 'yeah just ignore the nudity, the show isn't like that all the way through, it only has like one scene an episode'. Well. I can only be glad there are less and less people in the new generations, who think like you. On the 'male teenagers' part - entertainingly, the biggest fans of GoT and Spartacus I know of, are all in fact females in their mid 20's.

Murdering someone is a bit worse don't you think? that s one way to look at it. Another is that war and soldiers killing each other are distant and pretty much cannot be experienced by most people, nor do they want to suffer it on their own skin. While sex and nudity is a base desire/ demand. So if you watch a show to satisfy your base desires or to experience/watch something you otherwise wouldnt, i think there's a difference. not that im complaining about either, but i get both sides of this argument, i dont think it's that obvious. For me it's more like, "does it make sense/ does it drive the story forward" to have this kill or this sex scene. When Stannis chops a soldier in half, i couldnt care less if they left that one out, Ned's beheading or Bronn's duel and such make the show awesome. While the sex scenes rarely are there to advance the story/deepen characters (one counter example is obviously Jaime-Cercei at Winterfell and there are others i guess) the rest is just there for eye-candy.

As for the sex scenes, most of them are eye candy, but also 'realistically' play into the atmosphere of the story. Without it, there would be a definitive lack of authenticity in this epic tale.

I get showing some of who Littlefinger is by having him tutor his new whores riding each other, but having multiple long scenes with it just brings tackiness. Shying away from nudity is silly, typical to the Hollywood "lets have sex with our underwear on"-scenes, but as argued having it for the sake of having it drags the impression down. I'd rather have it like this than totally censored, but there is some lack of balance to it in GoT.

So yeah, as I said, seems like they are trying to be a bit more classy about it!! Actually the other thing my gf just mentioned is that it's kind of embarrassing to watch with other people around ie family, on a train, out and about in general. It just adds unnecessary awkwardness. And for all the people saying 'it's realistic to have sex in the show, we all have sex don't we?' that's a retarded argument. We all shit, do you want to spend 5 minutes an episode watching Jaime blast a particularly hefty dookie?

We all shit, do you want to spend 5 minutes an episode watching Jaime blast a particularly hefty dookie? Again Spartacus comes to mind. Early in the show, you can see someone taking a dump (you don't actually see anything, of course, you just see him sit down and then get back up a bit later). But why is this taboo? They act it out like its the most normal thing in the world..because it is! I'm not saying every movie needs a "dump" scene in it, but sometimes it can be a nice touch to enrich the atmosphere (back to spartacus, the reason it works there is because it shows 1. Men don't really care about nudity of other men, they are fairly sure on their own sexuality, unlike a lot of modern audience, and 2. It shows the way common slaves are treated (I don't remember if they actually had to wipe, but I wouldn't doubt it)). So you see, even something as simple and "taboo" as a dump scene can enrich the experience. So imagine what a sex scene can do. I do completely agree that there are a couple unneeded sex scenes in GoT, just like there are a couple unneeded violence scenes and boring drama scenes. But there are also a lot which really enriches the story and atmosphere, and that is important. Which is why I believe Hollywood is missing out some really important storytelling elements by simply ignoring these. edit: By clarifying what I mean with people not sure on their own sexuality: Remember Amnesia a while back? Remember the outcry of the violence? No? Me neither. There wasn't any. Remember the outcry of the naked penis on a dead corpse around 80% into the game? Yeah, there was some really pissed off people. For some its apparently completely ok to watch and listen to torture, but the second a penis comes into the picture, it's taboo!

Me and my family give exactly 0 fucks about nudity or sex scenes. We'd rather watch people pleasuring each other then skulls getting crushed to bits and pieces + gore. I really enjoy the show because it is such a 'real' setting. Real stuff happens, envy, lust for power, violence, sex, all part of RL and portrayed superbly in this series. If you're shocked by a tit or 'suggested action' I think you're in for a real shocker when you grow up and venture into the real world. and yeah, as for the Swedish culture. I, as a child no older then 8, enjoyed a movie named 'dunderklumpen' I dont even remember the child nudity in there, I just enjoyed the movie as a kid. Im not scarred for life because of nudity ![]()

Im not scarred for life because of nudity ![]() I'm going to ignore the ad hominem. I bet you think you're extremely sophisticated by showing how you are not at all bothered by such themes appearing in your show but in my opinion you're unsophisticated if you can't see the class in a show that is able to avoid blatant base nudity-for-the-sake-of-nudity. Seriously, watch I, Claudius. A million times richer and deeper than a show like Spartacus, covering exactly the same subject matter but doing it in a FAR classier and more subtle way. I agree with the people who say that some of the sex/ nudity scenes are acceptably plot-driven, but I think the majority are really just to attract the attention of a certain demographic, ie the male 18-34 target audience. Also, I think the general argument of 'lets be grown up about this' would probably fly a bit more if we saw penises rather than have many scenes where men are fully naked but conveniently their penises are hidden. The one-sidedness of the nudity 'deployment' undermines the arguments. Although I do accept there have been like two penises so far. Still though, quite a few times there has been a strategic existence of a bedsheet or a table or something that obscures the view. Although I don't know about the actual situation with HBO and the censors, have they not shown any vaginas because they specifically want to be a teenage road trip style movie or because the censors disallow such exposition?

I'd appreciate it if people would open a nudity in movies and such discussion thread if they insist on carrying on this drivel.
