I am genuinely surprised that it's even possible for a geek not to like GoT. I mean it's just so freaking awesome. Perhaps it's because some people just automatically dislike popular things.

This is basically my approach to the show. Some of the violence is mildly interesting but it is still completely secondary to the three most important things: actors, dialogue, plot.
And this show feeds the viewer a strict diet of awesome.

Not everyone agrees on everything but that must me the dumbest argument thrown on that thread for quite a while. To make things clear:
You're a geek and you like GOT = GOT is awesome = all geeks should like GOT ...
Can I pee one last time before you try to chop my dick off?? Or can I still choose where and when it will be used??
Edit: and I love that fucking show but it doesn't mean I shouldn't make a critical analysis of it ...

His argument isn't as bad as you think. There are usually more people who dislike something than people who automatically likes it because its popular. These are the type of people the rest of us likes to refer to as hipsters.
Now disliking GoT certainly doesn't make you a hipster. But disliking it because its popular does. And when you troll around in a thread for a show you dislike and have stopped watching, and start acting like you know better and being arrogant about it, you certainly do come across as a hipster.
edit: and by "you" I don't mean you specifically. I actually meant someone else..specifically..

That escalated quickly.
corumjhaelen is trolling the thread since a couple of pages and now sc4k took the trollbait and posted something stupid. Just don't make more of it.

The hell are you blathering on about with chopping your dick off lol? I'm just saying I'm surprised there are geeks that don't like GoT. Like how I am surprised when I meet a geek who doesn't like Star Wars. Maybe it's lost in translation.

dang i saw this thread title poped-up and came here to read about fresh opinions of the show. What i found was one guy ruining the thread for all others. What a disappointment. I'll probably come back later, but that's not cool.

Should I just accept that as a fact too? Do you have anything to back this up? Looks to me like you are doing the same thing the guy I previously quoted did: taking your personnal opinion and considering that since you had a few experience going your away it should be considered as fact.
I don't want to engage into arguments with everyone but the amount of generalization on this thread is appalling. I read "this" or "that" being facts all the time with absolutely nothing to back it up ... just people claiming their observations are general facts everyone should believe. If that's the way the thread works I surely missed something (and I don't recall it being like this a year ago), but I'd rather read some critical opinions on the show or some guessing of what's going to happen than the everlasting "too much nudity" debate and generalizations of what geeks should or shouldn't like (considering the word "geek" still even means something).

I was annoyed at the people denying the gratuitous nudity and violence, not really at sc4k, who seems to be critical of the show, so I'm happy to disagree with him As for fantasy... As a written genre, I'm not a huge client, but I've read some from time to time, and well, it's not what I like most but I don't hate it either. And I hold Tolkien in pretty high estime, I've read him plenty... As a movie genre, I must say that I'm far more suspicious, I haven't really seen a fantasy movie that convinced me (I don't like Jackson's work very much).

As i said above, I don't dislike your attitude specifically. If you allow me to develop, here's my opinion on what you like the most : actors are indeed pretty good. Dialogue is okayish. Plot doesn't work for me, for various reason. One of them is that it's a very shallow view of politics. Another is that character development is very unequal, and overall way worst than in the books. Finally, I think Martin's idea of one-chapter-per-character works well in his book, but very badly in a tv one hour format. Instead of making each change of view work as a cliffhanger, which was a good way to make even bad chapters enjoyable for you wanted very bad the next, let's say Tyrion chapter, here you just have a unsolved puzzle, a succession of unlinked pieces which tends to show the weakness of the plot rather than hide them.
All that to say, that no, I'm not trolling, I'm not a hipster, I have my reasons for disliking GoT, so huge thanks to the people insisting I must be a troll or a hipster for disagreeing with them, you're the salt of the earth.

I had to roll my eyes in the first episode, when Bronn had that good looking half naked whore in his bed, making conversation. Not because i am afraid of female body parts (they are so beuatiful and soft), nor because i believe they are tabooed for television. Just because it was completely clear that they were the reward for those who came to watch only them. The camera stopped on the perfect body of that actress for, i dunno, 10 seconds, while 2 off-screen actors were talking. That said, the show was worse in that regard before, so i gladly accept, that they might not have any female-on-female pretend-sex-scenes anymore.
When reading the books, i loved the fact, that Martin was able to portray sex and violence as something natural and yet unimportant. Meanwhile others, who tried that, failed. Like that guy from the Sword of Truth series. Pervert. The show does not come true to that in my opinion. That said, i could not care less. It's still awesome.

Oh yeah I forgot, never criticize what others like because that would spoil the mood ! There is 650 pages to this thread, almost of all them are circlej... positive discussion about the show. I think speaking about its most glaring flaws isn't such a bad thing. And don't worry for me, I find largely enough movies to watch for my enjoyment. Why do you watch the show if you don't like it? I've watched only the first season. I honestly don't understand the urge to participate in threads about shows that you don't like and don't even watch anymore.. I just thought the debate on nudity was interesting. Don't worry, I'll be gone in a few pages and your world will remained untroubled. Edit : And I also happen to believe in the confrontation of opinion. Terrible, I know. Could you confront others with your opinion in a less arrogant way, then? There's nothing wrong with the opinion itself, and as I said above, I certainly agree that GoT shows sex and violence just to show sex and violence. It's the sense of superiority that you throw around that's getting on people's nerves. I'll try, but people's reactions are not helping either... The people that watch this show for violence and nudity have to be a very small minority. Personally I could not care less about it. Also your opinions are so far off, I have the feeling you are just trolling. Nobody will admit that, even for itself. Personnally I think it's the most glaring evidence of the show's immaturity, just behind the title. Oh well so you are trolling. Thanks for wasting everyones time. I'm not, why are people so intent on believing I am ? On April 10 2013 22:47 sc4k wrote: I am genuinely surprised that it's even possible for a geek not to like GoT. I mean it's just so freaking awesome. Perhaps it's because some people just automatically dislike popular things. So geeks who don't like it are hipsters or something ? I don't think you should so easily dismiss the opinion you disagree with. I love this show for the writing/production quality as I'm sure many others do. If I wanted tits and violence I'd just watch Spartacus. If you don't like GoT maybe it's just not your genre? Do you find fantasy in general to be too immature? I was annoyed at the people denying the gratuitous nudity and violence, not really at sc4k, who seems to be critical of the show, so I'm happy to disagree with him As for fantasy... As a written genre, I'm not a huge client, but I've read some from time to time, and well, it's not what I like most but I don't hate it either. And I hold Tolkien in pretty high estime, I've read him plenty... As a movie genre, I must say that I'm far more suspicious, I haven't really seen a fantasy movie that convinced me (I don't like Jackson's work very much). Some of the violence is mildly interesting but it is still completely secondary to the three most important things: actors, dialogue, plot.
And this show feeds the viewer a strict diet of awesome.
All that to say, that no, I'm not trolling, I'm not a hipster, I have my reasons for disliking GoT, so huge thanks to the people insisting I must be a troll or a hipster for disagreeing with them, you're the salt of the earth. how can you tell people you have your own reasons and your opinion shouldn't be dismissed while also posting

Loved Jamie and Briennes banter this episode! Also a bit worried what the hound might be up to.

Please guys could you stop feeding the troll? We should get this thread back on track.

Getting the thread back on track!
Did the Reeds appearance feel jarring to you guys? They kind of just showed up without warning - it felt very uneven. They also could have done better with foreshadowing when it comes to wargs.

btw did they first introduce the wargs? i don't remember from prevous episodes them talking about them, and now boom! very nice turn of events for the injured kid.
