Do we like watching our favourite characters head roll off the block? Do we enjoy seeing Jofferey hold the throne? And does anyone here not wish Mormont would just stab Crastor in the balls and free all his wives? The books were about creating a realistic world, the show continues to do that. Gratuities Sex makes us feel uncomfortable, as do many things in game of thrones and thats probably the point. It's their artistic direction not ours and so long as they feel it contributes to the tone of the universe they are trying to build than we have nothing to complain about. This show was never made for kids.

We get it- sex is important, a motivating factor and there is and always has been a lot of sex involved in everything. But you don't have to SHOW us so much god damn softcore pornography. Not only does it make it extremely uncomfortable when relatives walk in while you're watching, it is also just a waste of time, 90% of the sex and tits scenes add ABSOLUTELY nothing to the plot. If I want porn I'll just head over to red tube thank you. haha I feel you man, If i was living at home itd be super awkward watching this show on my family's TV. on hbo go you can set an episode to a certain spot, and since me and about 6 pals share a GO account: one of them thought itd be funny to leave it right before a loud sex scene, and my one pal who started watching in a library was super shocked. also apparently he had a giant bucket of popcorn with him too so people were already looking at him.
lol - he was the coolest guy in the library for sure
I think it´s perceived as awkward since we are brought up pretty "prude"(I can´t talk for everyone but reading some posts here makes me feel that way). In the books it´s also a pretty big part - and the mentioned scenes gave away Theon´s arrogance really well and also what drives Littlefinger.
And don´t forget it´s HBO, where people swear, don´t know what PC is and show titties - they would be crazy not to bring this to the screen. If you mentioned that there´s a series of books with great story and lively, interesting characters are occuring, people would expect some Sex as well and would be ok, but when it´s on the screen it´s bad, Porns are filthy! Yet everybody watches them. I smell a double standard here - but it might just be me.
Of course it does not take away the awkwardness if you show it to relatives^^

The best thing about the books is the political machinations and manipulations. The series completely botched that aspect and I think it is because of time constraints. They need to show the plot, but then in 10 episodes per book format, no time remains to recreate the general "feel" and theme of the books. So in the end if the series was to stand on its own merit it would be writing/plot-wise rather a failure. The only thing that saves is from that fate is the link to the books. And of course actors/acting and visuals.

Alright, seeing as how some other people have ventured into this discussion and so far haven't recieved warnings here are my thoughts. Thanks for the encouragement
p.s. spoilers ahead for season 2 episode 2 which is airing tonight
+ Show Spoiler +I can handle some minor departures. First of all I don't remember one of Dany's blood riders dying, but if it's so minor I don't even remember then that's fine. Also, I don't think the book ever clearly stated that Stannis had sex with milessandra but it was implied, plust I got to see a nice pair of titties, which was much needed after the scene with Theon on the boat, so that's fine too. What really got to me was the sillyness with Craster bashing Jon over the head. I mean, if it just ended with Jon finding the baby getting abandoned I would have been okay with that because the book already implied that this is what happened to male babies, but throwing in this story arc with Jon and Craster is a problem for me. This will not only effect the interactions with Jon and Craster, but with Jon and Mormont, Jon and Sam and Jon and many of his other brothers, and these character interactions are just not written into the original story line. I feel like either the Jon and Craster scene will either feel tacked on, or it will have to cause more character interactions that are not written in the books. Considering most people's favorite scenes are one's pretty much taken right out of the book, I think this is a big mistake

I feel like time constraints is an issue, but another problem is deviations from the book story. It's one thing if time constraints are simply caused because there's too much content, but if the HBO writers are throwing in some random sex and violence scenes, which in turn is causing time contraints for the main plot.... well that's a big problem for me, and I think it should be for others too. Season 1 was so good, and season 2 is off to a good start to be honest, but these recent book deviations have just bothered me.

The show is awesome! Also dont compare the show with the book its just not working. The lotr movies are good too unless you compare them to the books in which case they suck horribly imo.

I feel anyway we compare the 2 way too much. We talk about the books way too much instead of just looking at the TV series as an independent piece of work with its own artistic vision.

I've heard from many people that LoTR is one of the only cases where the movies are better than the books.
Anyways, I'm hoping for another leak or something cuase waiting another week is going to suck. D:

Its not plot changing at all. Jon (you didnt even spell his name correct) realizes that craster sacrifices his sons to the others (not a giant). He does it in the books as well, without actually seeing it. The scene you mentioned has nothing to do with it, youre basically saying "well what if they actually did something that would affect the plot?", which they didnt do.

I really fucking hate how fast these episodes go by lol

nvm. apparently i have a "book spoiler"... lol.

I've taken to only responding with "hodor" in my ladder games. It's helped me handle rage tendencies, but it also induces rage in others who either 1) have no clue what it means or 2) know what it means and think I think I'm cool for being a GoT fan.
Question (s02e02 spoiler): + Show Spoiler +Did Stannis have sex with Melisandre in the books? Normally I don't care if the show diverges a little, but this seemed like a big slip in character. I don't remember that from reading.

+ Show Spoiler +It's implied in the books, but not outright stated.

+ Show Spoiler +To me it's similair to Renly being gay. It's implied in the books there is never a scene confirming it like in season 1. The Stannis thing is a little bigger IMO because it is a off from the character we know in the books.
The writers are brilliant because most of the scenes that they put into the TV series are things that happened in between chapters in the books but HAD to happen. The whole Theon telling Robb that he should go to the iron islands is something that had to happen in the world of GoT but we never got to see until now. Same with Tyrion talking to Cersei.

+ Show Spoiler +In the previews for season 2 it showed Jon with Quorin Halfhand...so its not changing at all. It's just gonna end up being resolved early on next episode with Craster talking some shit and kicking them out most likely.
