So who is the legitimate king at this point ? I mean there must be some line of succession for the crown ? It seems pretty obvious Geoffrey ist not. Is it one of King Roberts bastard sons ? Stannis ? Another thing, I havent read the books and I dont wanna get spoilered for the whole plot, but I really need to know some insight on Dany and her dragons. If sb who read the books would be so kind to pm me ? :-) + Show Spoiler + So the dragons havent eaten yet ? And we dont know what they eat. Is that important to the story at all ? Will Dany get killed or taken captive and her dragons taken away from her ? I would be heart broken. She and Arya are by far my fav characters.

By succession, Stannis is the rightful king, behind him is Renly then Gendry

Everyone has some sort of claim, Stannis is Roberts elder brother, so if Robert has no trueborn sons (he doesnt) then he is. Renly's claim a bit weaker, he's the younger brother, but he has an army and connections, I don't know for sure if it has been in the show yet, but no one really loves Stannis. Dany is the daughter of Mad Arys who's been killed by Jamie (and Robert took the crown), so many believe Dany is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Joffrey sits the Iron Throne because people believe him to be Robert's son. The Starks wants revenge on Ned, and a seperate kingdom of the North. I don't believe the Greyjoys have been explained on the show.

Following the traditional line of succession it's Stannis (Robert's younger brother, older than Renly). That is if you consider Robert a legit king. He did after all rebel against the legitimate, albeit mad, Targaryen king.

And The Targaryens were only kings because they took the realm by force, much like Robert did later (minus the dragons).

So who is the legitimate king at this point ? I mean there must be some line of succession for the crown ? It seems pretty obvious Geoffrey ist not. Is it one of King Roberts bastard sons ? Stannis ? Here's how succession in Westeros is supposed to work: If the monarch dies, the crown goes to the oldest son. If there's no son the oldest daughter becomes Queen. If there's no daughter, the oldest brother is the successor, otherwise the oldest sister. If the highest person in the line of succession is already dead, their children have precedence. So for instance when the Mad King Aerys was killed by Jaime Lannister, his eldest son Rhaegar had already been killed by Robert Baratheon, but Rhaegar's children were still higher in the line of succession than Aerys's other children Viserys and Danaerys. Oh, and bastards can't inherit anything unless they've been previously legitimized by the King, so Gendry is out. The further you have to go down that line of succession, the more likely it is that there's some sort of dispute that results in a civil war. So currently in Westeros, since King Robert didn't have any legitimate children, his rightful heir is Stannis. After Stannis come any children he may have. If Stannis dies without any living offspring, Renly is next in line, after that come any children which Renly might have. After that it's unclear who's next in line since afaik there's no mention of any other Baratheons. If you disregard Robert as being an unrightful usurper and see Aerys as the last legitimate King, Danaerys is the rightful Queen. Aerys had three children: Rhaegar, Viserys (the arrogant shit who got "crowned" by Khal Drogo) and Danaerys (aka Dany). Rhaegar and his two children were killed during the war and Viserys was killed by Khal Drogo, so Dany is the heir. Meanwhile, Robb Stark can also be said to have a legitimate claim to being King in the North as the Starks have been Kings until about 300 years ago when the Torrhen, the last King in the North surrendered to the Targaryans. Since the Targaryans no longer rule Westeros, it can be claimed that therefore the Starks are no longer bound to the Iron Throne. ep 2 spoiler: + Show Spoiler + Balon Greyjoy can make a similar claim as the Ironborn were also an independent Kingdom before the Targaryan invasion

I don't believe the Greyjoys have been explained on the show. Robert was the oldest of the three brothers, Stannis is the middle brother, only older than Renly - the rest is basically true. For Kenparks question about the dragons - + Show Spoiler [Not very spoilery] + Not sure how much to say about the dragons - it is not that big of a deal that she doesn't know what to feed them but when she figures it out it helps show her what dragons really are. + Show Spoiler [Somewhat spoilery] + Dragons eventually have the ability to produce fire with their mouths - these young dragons haven't figured it out yet, but dragons do not eat raw meat which is what Dany was trying to give them + Show Spoiler [Even more spoilery] + She eventually figures it out User was warned for this post

With 2 episodes released, it only confirms one of my thoughts about the show. But I'd like other peoples opinion on that. + Show Spoiler + In season 1, I already had the feeling the show would give much importance to female characters. We had Cersei Lannister, Lady Stark, and Daenerys being at the very center of the plot. In season 2 women even get more importance, with the appearance of this kinda priestess that is "guiding" Stannis, the whore accompanying Tyrion (which in my opinion is one of Little Fingers' girls), and probably the Graejoy daughter. I believe it's great that a story whose plot revolves mostly around politics, conspiracy and manipulation in medieval times' go his fair share of important female character. Not that women should be associated with corruption and manipulation (or maybe .... ) but just because medieval stories tend to focus on men at war when there is often much more to it: powerful women behind every powerful men for example. In season 2, I feel like women are taking power over the men. Beside the kingboy who treats them like shit, all other women are becoming leading figures and the new ones we are discovering already are leading figures. In fact the only man who seems to be handling is shit right now and who is'nt totally under the influence of a women is probably the Imp (even though that whore with him probably got a few tricks planned). My main question here is: is this importance of female characters something that's been added/developed for the show or is it like this too in the book (it could somehow be understandable that in order to attract a wider audience, the production decides to modify the story to make women more important)? And now a bit more fantasy/fanfiction: how about we reach a point were all men slaughtered each others at war, Daenerys arrives on her flying dragons and unites all the women of the world to face the White Walkers? Girl power ending ... ? No .... Seemed fun ... PS: I'm not asking for information about what happens further in the book but about how close to the original story, things that were already shown, actually are. The books are seen by some people as straight-up feminist, but bare in mind that there are a lot of feminine and naive women in the series as well, not only strong women(Mainly Sansa comes to mind). This was never intended as some sort of pr-trick to appeal to a larger audience; George R.R. Martin is just awesome.

Paraphrased: Interviewer: "How do you write women so well?" GRRM: "I just think of them as people." Gender seems to in many ways to be secondary to character, which I feel is a great way to write. Spoilered the lines since the scene hasn't come up in the shows yet. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOzXsqoJhtE&feature=relmfu + Show Spoiler + “The king, the priest, the rich man—who lives and who dies? Who will the swordsman obey? Power resides where men believe it resides. No more and no less."
