It still counts as helping them though, regardless. I think he is moderately altruistic, moreso than the rest of his family by a long shot.

FML if the next series is supposed to be aired a year from now, I might have to buy and read all the books. That's actually what I did with Hobbit+LotR books right after watching the first movie.

Makes me a little sad I didn't know about the book before the show started. Would have been so cool to read the whole thing!

About The Wall: I don't understand why the Men of the Night's Watch are so skeptical about the White Walkers coming. The Wall was built to protect the people in the South from something in the North, right? Then you must assume that they are instructed WHY they are there to protect the Wall, and you assume the Black people get told the history of the Walls purpose. Then it should be clear for everyone that there are stuff (white walkers, giants etc) on the other side of the Wall. Still they are stupid/ignorant about rumors of white walkers...
Seems like history became legend and legend became Myth so they don't believe in it anymore.

That's pretty much it. Just look at the conversation between Tyrion and Jon on the way to the Wall. Tyrion dismisses the threat from the north as 'grumpkins and snarks' and just tales you hear as a child. The vast majority of people view White Walkers the way we might view fairies and dryads - ancient legends that have no shred of evidence as actually existing.
As viewers, we know the White Walkers are real, but most of the world still dismisses them outright.

Yeah but they do know that there are a lot of wildlings north of the wall. They are probably assuming that the wall's purpose is to keep them out

I am buying that the rest of world dismiss the threat but since the Men of The Night's Watch has been on the Wall since the beginning u think the stories from past are inherited and told generation after generation. The Maester there mentioned in some episode that long cold is coming and the darkness with that, so I assume he still knows about the past. So why doesn't the other Black People listen to him?
I love this series

Not even the Night's Watch has seen the mythical stuff in 8,000 years. Most men of the Night's Watch are criminals or poor, also. Throw that together with the clearly present wildlings, and not even they really believe in all of the mythical stuff. Benjen does, as stated when he told Tyrion that the wildlings aren't what keeps him up at night. But most of them do not. To most, the wall is just a place to secure a meal or keep from being executed.

Yeah, it seems The Wall is mostly used as a permanent jail sentance. It's a punishment. Most of the members don't even want to be there, so really have no reason to believe either. For them its an entertal punishment.

Well they all believe it now after seeing the undead guy that they controlled and after Sam told them about the book he read.

I don't think that's entirely fair to Joffrey. He doesn't know the truth of his parentage so from his perspective, Ned really was a traitor. He's grown up knowing that he'll be the next king, and then right after his supposed father is killed in a terrible hunting accident, Robert's best friend attempts to seize the throne. To him, the execution was justified, even if it was cruel (to Sansa) and stupid.

There wasn't really any logic behind it imo. He just did it on an emotional basis because he is cruel and wanted to rebel against his mother.

He's still cruel and evil. He needelessly attacked the butcher's boy, and then had him killed afterward. After Arya hit him with a stick, he swung his sword at her and would have killed, or at least seriously injured her. He then ordered the butchers boy dead. He did his best to get Arya's dog killed, which resulted in Sansa's being put to death. He clearly said that he believes the Starks are enemies and has already given his view on how the realm should be ruled, which wasn't exactly the way a loved king would rule.
He may be justified in killing Ned, but everything else he's done still makes him a dick and esaily the most hatable character of the series so far.
I can't wait until Arya stabs him. EIDT: I havn't read the books. I dont know if that will actually happen, lol.

I will hate you always if this happens - must stop reading this thread

@Crazyeyes Was that a spoiler or are you saying you hope that happens dude...?
|
Arya's running around with a sword looking vengeful. She would give it a shot. (I have no idea havn't read the books). I think it's a fair guess.
|
Yea I hope it happens too, but the way he said it makes it look like a spoiler =/

Arya? sort of think I'm going to feel dissapointed if Sansa doesn't end up stabbing Joffrey or Cersei. Read the first book before I started watching the show with my sister we are both really enjoying it. Thank you TL for finally getting me to read a book that had been sitting on a bookshelf for years.

It's been so obscenely long since the last anyone had ever seen / heard of white walkers from the north lands. Generations upon generations upon generations. Entire monarchy's have risen and fallen. Liken it to dinosaurs. If someone ran up to you and swore they just saw a dinosaur you would call bullshit in an instant. Dinosaurs have been dead for eons. That person would be locked up in an asylum and given medication to calm his fevered mind.

I find it ridiculous how much the mods have forced this thread to change from when it was originally created. For the longest time this thread was a comparison between the books/show and slowly its devolved to this ONLY SHOW PEOPLE ALLOWED. It seems like one(+) mods didn't read the books and decided this is now going to be HIS thread and changed it thus, instead of simply creating his(or there) own non-spoiler'd thread.
