Quick question this week is 6 and 7, then what is next week? just a rerun of 7?
|
Very, very sorry for the spoiler, slipped my mind because I had just come home from a long day at work. Won't happen again.

TV =
6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 (with every - being a week in between)
Internet is gonna be
6 7 - - 8 - 9 - 10
Downloading the extra ep means having to wait another week before the show is back on track. But i will still do it

I doubt anyone is going to wait

I don't know why HBO is doing it though. Seems like a stupid move from my perspective. Viewership is rising every episode, why suddenly mix it up and risk half the audience tuning in early?

well I suppose they thought it's a good way to make people subscribe to HBO Go. But the problem is you will have the episode all over the internet and HBO Go subscribers will have to wait 2 weeks to see a new episode.

Audience for HBO = zero
This is a diferent business model. Audience means nothing to them. Maybe just a measure of how good the show is and if they made a good choice to air it or not. Sure you might argue that audience makes more subscribers. But subscribers wont sudenly sign off their subscription because of this. This won prevent any subscriber that wants to see GoT to sign on HBO. Simply their are promoting a new product. With no negative impact on current clients. win-win situation.

I wonder, will this extra episode 7 be as easily pirated as the rest, or is HBO taking some further steppes to save it for only those who subscribe?

it's an internet stream so you can be sure it will be out in the internet pretty fast

HBO Go has no advertising so it's basically financed by HBO subscriptions. If anything, it may result in less DVD sales as the same people who have access to HBO TV can now get on their computers and get caught up with their favorite show, or watch a full season of another show they may have purchased instead otherwise (sup True Blood!).
Of course, it does give them valuable information in terms of their subscriber base' true viewership dichotomy. Perhaps they are considering the cancellation of a few of their shows, and want to get a better idea of the true audience numbers. It's also a way to sell HBO, with all of the "sign up" links anytime you try to do something.

So let me get this straight. HBO Go is free for people who get HBO on their TV right? And you could watch both episode 6 and 7 on your computer Sunday night if you wanted to?
Also do they air right at exact times like they would on TV or are they VODs?
Thanks

The mountain's sword in the third cut is the fakest thing I've seen so far in this series.

Yeah but you don't notice it all when it happens, you're still in shock at the blood and head sliding off. Does look bad in the gif though.

Bigger blokes are better as they can take more punishment in a sport that is essentially me and you riding at each other with an 11 foot stick attempting to *cause* a 50mph head on collision... between my stick and your face. Smaller blokes means the horse can ride faster and are often superior riders as the horse is less worried about breaking its back than it is about charging forward. That doesn't really address his physique, just his size. I had no choice but to agree with people who were saying that such a good knight would have a more fit physique, not be weak looking and soft. If he was training with the sword all the time he would have harder looking muscles. Strictly speaking we don't know how much he's training with a sword though, since all we know about him is he jousts. So what sc4k's friend says seems correct. No in the show he said something along the lines of "The reason I am so good at the sword is because I've spent so much time training with it". which is funny, cause in the books hes not really good with a sword, and his brother garlan is considered to be the dangerous one. didnt put this under spoiler tags cause it seems quite minor and not really the case in the tv show either. In the books he's good with everything; just Garlan is better than him with a sword.

Episode 5 was a big letdown for me. Just when I started to get excited and all they started introducing really badly choreographed fights... I was really expecting a bit more from HBO and the actors on this one, seeing what HBO did with Rome for example. + Show Spoiler [ep5] + Jamie vs Ned was complete bullshit... I mean, supposedly the most skilled swordsman in the seven kingdoms and a veteran of no less than 2 wars duking it out and it looks like some kindergarten kids swinging at each other... They could do one of the two things: 1. Hire someone who knows this stuff and make him teach the actors and prepare the choreography (like the most basic thing and the most common mistake in the movies: swing at the man, not at the sword). 2. Direct the show as a play in the theater (it got some potential when Baelish nearly broke the fourth wall once) so no one can complain about bad CG, fight scenes etc. It worked really well for Dune and The Children of Dune miniseries.
Of course, there are more blatant errors in this show. Apart from swords being too shiny and fake-looking you have Jon having a 2 week beard in one scene and being clean-shaven in the next scene, which is supposedly taking place the same day, and then having his beard back again... They surely dropped the ball a couple of times.
And on a sidenote, I was wondering how the show is received by people who haven't read the books... Except the obvious sex/incest complains (which I believe are valid, you can make your show look real and dirty without cramming tits and sex scenes into 1/3rd of every episode). I mean, the show is nice for me, because I've read 4 books of the series and I know the background and stories of the characters involved (not counting knowing what's going to happen in the future). If I haven't read the books I believe I'd be a bit lost, there's quite a few names, houses, places and pieces of history that are mentioned very scarecely, if at all, in the show and are quite vital to some of the plot lines which might confuse people.

The show is loved as far as i can see, non of my friends nor i read the books (though i knew about them and wanted to), and a lot of us started to watch, i watched every ep 3 times, and started reading the books as well
