Good old "6 months later" removes all the stuff that would have to be dealt with. Uhhh...care to explain how its "totally" out of character for Dexter to require Deb emotionally? Hes shown multiple times he clearly cares for her [in whatever capacity hes capable]. Hes never been without her for an extended time before, and so...this is the only time in which we would ever be exposed to Dexter in such a circumstance. The question of how he would handle it was previously mostly a blank, though informed with the fact that Dexter loves Deb and lives a high stress lifestyle. Nothing too implausible with where they went with it.
As to the Deb bit, the actor herself said she considered Deb to be in love with Dexter for most of the series run, and played it a subtextual manner, and that she opposed the reveal because she wanted it to remain subtextual. I certainly noticed multiple instances where Deb seemed to give Dexter a particular look that seemed odd given shes his sister. Not to say I predicted incest, but looking back it isnt batshit insane.

Why does it have to be one random black character without impact in every show? Diversity gone mad? Will it bring a more diverse audience or whats the background reasoning? Thinking about the black guy last season and now the women this season, dont remember there names.

That's why she came to town. i dunno. the doctor lady definitely has the killer vibe about herself as well. Also her speech and talking about serial killers using victims/kills to communicate which I read as her cutting out the part of the victim's brain to tell Dexter she knows he has no empathy/ she doesn't either etc, i missed that part(i watched it at like 3 am) but that's exactly what i was thinking on my own. . That makes it so obvious it must be wrong? right?

Yes, if there isn't a token black the Jesse Jackson's of the world will protest your show.

My general suspicion for this season: I dont think there can be a happy end for dexter, what ever you might think of a happy end for a serial killer even if he defeats the bad guys just like every other hero. I think they will burn him in this season and making us to not like him, so they can kill him of or catch him in the season finally.
For the first episode: I think it was okay, but somehow the show lost its touch for me somehow. What I dislike the most is the appearance of this psychologist who just can see through his mask and knows him for what he is. Thats just too deus ex machina and a sign of bad story telling for me. I mean if the introduced this character a longer time ago and making it become more suspicious it would be better then her just appearing and knowing him like an open book.
I hope Deb doesn't fuck it up too much, but I am quite interested to see how it all will come to pass.

Wasn't she already there in Season 1 or 2? I think its the same woman that was responsible for the old file archive...

True statement, but something you're overlooking is that she always had a man in her life that seemed like they were the right one for her, Anton, Brian Moser, Quinn, Lundy, as examples. Throughout the series, her feelings for Dexter were manifested and finally brought to light once she was out of men to occupy herself with.

I don't think she's a psychopath/serial killer herself. She understands the emotional dynamics (or lack thereof) of a serial killer far too well to be be one herself. Plus the other info pretty much tells us who/what she is: Dexter started drawing those disturbing drawings as a kid, and Harry saw them and took them to the Doctor lady (who was probably consulting with the police department while Harry was working there). Harry respected her expertise and confided in her and asked her for her analysis/advice on Dexter, and she probably had a big hand in the whole 'code'. She probably sees Dexter as her own creation.
I think she'll probably be killed by the end of the season. Experimenting and manipulating dangerous minds is not something a good guy does.

Just judging from the fact that she probably knows Dexter is the Bay Harbour butcher and is keeping schtum about it, there's definitely something off about her.
Actually quite excited about this series, was a good start there hopefully they can keep it up as I wasn't a big fan of the last season's plot arc.

it's quite obvious she's the one cutting into brains of ppl ;p

I just started to watch the show and finished the first season. I have to say i really liked it so far, the story art and characters are really good. Especially Dexters cynical monologues made me giggle.
Two things i found pretty odd tho, are the camera work and the soundtrack. Most of the time i had the feeling the show was a VICE documentary, because of the permanent close ups and the hand-camera like feeling. And the soundtrack seemed like a mix of elevator music meets Alice in Wonderland.

Seasons 2 and 4 are absolutely brilliant.
Season 3 was meh
Season 5 I loved, but a lot disagree
Season 6 was terrible, watch the last episode skip the rest. Literally nothing happens and you won't miss a thing.
Season 7 made up for season 6, lots goes down and quite a few oh shit moments.
Season 8 is going to be EXCELLENT from the first episode IMO. Since they can pretty much do whatever they want this season I expect great things.

I really liked Season 1, that is still my favorite. Season 5 was quite good in my opinion. Season 7 was great, I lost interest in the show during 6, my girlfriend convinced me to finish it, so I did but it's mostly meaningless. That being said, Colin Hanks did a good job, the season has some good things that evolve one character quite a bit, but it's skippable for the most part. Season 2 was a bit bleh for me just because I really hated that british chick. Season 4 is a lot of fun, John Lithgow is in it and he does a wicked job. Season 7 has Yvonne Strahovsky is in it, she plays Miranda in Mass Effect. Halfway through the season I realized who it was, finally could rest my brain. Spent weeks wondering why she was so familiar. ^_^
TL;DR Sorry for the rant, Seaosn 2 I disliked because of one actor, it wasn't bad though, other than that, most of it is pretty decent, 6 is a bit boring but power through and it's not half bad in the end. Best season in my opinion is still 1, and John Lithgow makes season 4.

1 and 2 are amazing, 3 is very solid, 4 is good but dull and repetitive in a lot of ways, repeating aspects of the show/main character that had already been done. 5 and 6 were completely garbage, and most people I know gave up on the show during that period [I did, though I returned]. Seven was alright, but clearly flawed.

So this episode will be the first to be directed by Michael C. Hall. Getting the feeling there will be flashbacks this episode.
|
I expect a lot of closeups of Deb.

I can't hear this song without thinking of Lost.

of course deb gets the shit beat out of her with Michael Hall being the director
