Dude. Absolutely not:

Teen Gohan and Ultimate/Mystic Gohan have best aesthetic ou of all Dragonball!

Was anyone else hoping that Goku and Vegeta would get a snazzy new Whis outfit? I suppose there are pros and cons to having characters get new outfits. But for something like it being the new main trainer guy, it felt appropriate. Whis has trained Goku and Vegeta significantly.

The one they had sucked. Scrapping it seemed appropriate.

I actually really liked Vegeta's new outfit. I thought it was better then his previous ones. Wish he'd get it back .

Can't wait to see grill Broly in action :o

20 minute episodes are too short =/. I liked the episode even though it wasn't spectacular. As expected half of the team just went to do whatever the fuck they want. Still very excited to see all the fights though.
The Grand Priest and Whis are such trolls btw. They're a great addition to the show. Always manage to entertain me.

Was wondering if anyone noticed we had an episode this week. Definitely left me hoping for more.
Freeza is finally in the intro, by the way.

The episode kinda felt like a tease heh. Limited action and they panned the same shots of people fighting a few times

Agree with everything you say. I like the Grand Priest a lot, he is such a troll.
Goku being Goku and "almost" getting eliminated for "saving his energy".

Im really interested to see if hit will ever fight jiren, either to hyper up jiren if he casually blocks a time-freeze attack from hit. Ultimately i see the final universes surviving being u7 (duh), u6, hit was super strong in both attack and speed, broly is a wild card but i think she will explode in power look like shes overwhelming our u7 sayians but then eventually just get outclassed by goku or vegeta showing their experience. u11, having jiren and toppo i cant imagine them being eliminated.
In end i think the 3 plus maybe one more or two will surive and then zeno will start a real tournament, because i think its just way too hard to show this battle royal in a dbz style, which has always been a main 1v1 fight.

The preview for next week made it look like Vegeta and Goku are gonna wipe the floor with U9.
Also that was a frieza minute right there

Freeza, in his brief appearance, looked like he was right at home making life miserable for all the warriors that attacked him.

I thought the episode was fairly mediocre, ofc it's just starting but the whole episode's execution was fairly uninspired. Showing some small fish here and there and a lot of explosions without any direction. Lot of wasted time on stills with some "hehe" or other noises and not really anything of substance. I hope and know that it will get better, but in my opinion you could be more creative from the get go. It's obviously not that easy to make a royal rumble like that work, i get that. I just had hoped for a bit more narrative direction, we had enough filler already. This felt like filler as well.

I can't wait for the majority of all those fighters be off the board. There's too many right now, expecting the next 5+ episodes to have mostly just short fights.

You'd probably feel better about this episode if they hadn't had a dozen useless filler episodes. Buildup episodes like this are a pretty common trope, but we've been waiting for the whole thing to start for months - and let's be honest, the majority of filler episodes we got in the meantime were really, really bad.
If I wasn't so used to and comfortable with getting up every Sunday and watching DB Super immediately, I'd probably just wait until I can watch the entire tournament in bulk.
|
The thing is there really wasn't much buildup either. Ok our group doesn't wanna follow the plan, ok there is the fake tension moment with goku having to go blue and a bare minimum of little character interactions (but really pretty much nothing interesting) It just felt a bit uninspired for the episode which should establish the tournament action to some extent. Like seeing explosions everywhere shows the scale of the battle, but it doesn't really help with the creation of tension/drama. I would have hoped the first episode of the tournament starts with a strong narrative direction. With that being said, i am sure there will be something like that, so it's not a huge deal.

Let's be honest, until Goku/Vegeta/Freeza are fighting the Hit (probably)/Toppo/Jiren league of fighters all tension is 'fake' because they outclass the vast majority of people in the tournament by obscene amounts. Until most of the fodder is gone there's not much actual tension and drama to be had.
|
Well it's obviously on a spectrum right. The thing is that the tournament really has to deliver in my eyes, so far no arc in super was good imo. The tournament has potential and i had hoped it shows from episode 1. That's probably true, but there is a difference between some random foot soldier tryng to create tension or a character we at least have seen already. There are some characters you could use to create interesting moments, nobody cares about random dude 55 though. So any minute which is wasted on stuff like that seems silly to me, that can be background noise but it kinda got attention here.
