the roshi scenes were hilarious, and doubly hilarious is the implication that yamcha hangs out with puar all the time and is single...
This isn't about being offended. This is about totally killing the mood with remarkably unfunny gags. It doesn't fit in with the show at all. Roshi has significantly cooler aspects of his personality and character. Roshi has so much other than just being an old perv.

Yeah! Like that awesome lighting attack that only got used once ever.

He's one of the characters that DBZ rendered obsolete, but IMO that was a mistake in writing. He was never all that powerful in the grand scheme of things (not past training Goku in the first tournament) but he was always able to add something useful to the group. Until they sidelined him in favor of characters with more power.
DBS, at least, seems to want to rectify that problem.
|
They pretty much sidelined every non-Piccolo non-Saiyan during the beginning of the Cell Saga. DBS is too late to rectify that problem because of how much more powerful the main characters are. They pretty much have to introduce new non-Saiyans at this point if they want relevant non-Saiyans.
The Roshi gag may have been funny once 25 years ago before I hit puberty, but it's just so tired at this point. He may be worse than most, but many anime do have a pervert character as a recurring gag. I could go on a long rant about tsunderes, shotas, lolis and all the annoying over-recurring character archtypes in anime.

I don't have the problem with it a lot of you do (I didn't find it funny though either), I did however find the first episode after Goku gets that 100 million zeni and Roshi runs over asking to buy DVD's with the money pretty funny. That was a well done one imo. Same with the one where Bulma paid a group of escorts for Roshi rofl.
Other ones I find boring, don't see the point of being offended. I don't find it funny as they aren't well done but oh well. I wonder how long Roshi's "fix" will last.

Yeah, for me, its not offensive as much as remarkably stupid. Let's say I was watching a movie, and between scenes, there was suddenly a scene where a clown chased a cat around a barn. At one point, the cat runs under a tree and the clown hits his head on a branch, ending his pursuit.
I would be like "why in the fucking world did this scene exist?". Same deal here. It is enormously out of place and doesn't contribute even slightly. But hey, the baseball episode didn't contribute. But the baseball episode was well crafted. I dunno if extreme lack of wit is a crucial part of this...whatever you wanna call it: this practice of adding in some raunchy old man who chases women. It seems like a trope of sorts, and I dunno if the trope necessitates it be fairly "ME MAN, ME CHASE GIRL MMMMM", or if it allows for some more nuance and wit.
Every single time, it has been a swing and a miss. I can appreciate humor, even when sexual or perhaps even sexually deviant in nature at times. But it is just downright poor. Roshi's perv humor has yet to be remotely funny in DBS. It always just feels like such a shame when a good episode has this random bullshit tossed in the middle.

I don't think anybody in this thread is offended. I haven't seen a single person make a comment about that. I don't get how the conversation went from something being stupid to being offensive.

Well everyone here is presumably male so they probably aren't bothered by Roshi trying to sexually assault a woman like a female would.
|
Probably, probably not, who knows.

Isn't the whole old pervert thing offensive to old men, not to females? I mean, it doesn't really belittle females per se.
I guess the bad thing for females is the notion that some males are entertained about watching an old pervert guy sexually assault attractive females?
I do agree though that many people are completely blind and insensitive and unaware of this when it comes to things like race and sex/gender. This whole male-dominated internet based 'SJW' backlash thing is so despicable. We even have this insult called 'gutmensch' now, about people who do want to be moral persons. Like it is a bad thing to be a nice, civilized and decent person nowadays. What is oh so bad about being upright and considerate?
It is crazy how things can be anno 2017.
I myself really find it annoying that females no not know if I am an offensive dangerous sexual pig, or a composed nice guy. I mean, they don't know. They have to be careful. In their mind they have this notion that if they look at me for too long, then in some guy's minds, they guy is entitled to something. So they don't.
/rant.

Roshi was like that 30 years ago. It's a cartoon, relax. I guess you are not a fan of South Park either.
|
Considering your conservative and regressive positions on many topics over the years, if you didn't show insensitiveness about this, I myself would be worrying if this was even an issue.
The fact you specifically think it is no big deal exactly shows to me that it is an actual issue.
I wouldn't call myself a fan of South Park, no. Is South Park some sort of discriminator where people that like South Park 'get it', and everyone else are the 'others' that are either 'SJW's/gutmensch or stuck up ideologues?
I have no judgment to make about if South Park's moral value or funniness. And on the axis moral and not funny vs immoral and funny, I am strongly skewed towards the 'moral and unfunny' side. But you realize, things can be both moral and funny? (giving a simple judgment on South Park would be impossible since there have been so many shows and considering the complex nature of their satire in general. I am sure a lot of their episodes were tasteless and wrong. But overall, they might be helpful. But let's also recognize that SP as satire isn't just your average show. It is a satire. DBS isn't satire of Japanese comic.)
Point is, this aspect of DBS clearly is neither. And if all people still had your attitude, homosexuals wouldn't have the right to marry and woman wouldn't have a right to vote.
[edit]
I just checked your post history to make sure I was being fair to you, as people can and do change their mind. And I saw you are self-admit to being a bigot after making some quite misogynist comments just a week ago.
So I stand by my position. If you think it is ok. Then it is probably not.

...can we stop this convo its gonna derail the thread

Toppo vs Mystic Gohan - who wins?
|
Probably Toppo. He seems beefier than Gohan.
I'm cautiously optimistic for today's episode. Freeza is one hell of a wildcard but DBS has had shitty failures in the past that should have been easy fangasms.
|
Toppo was on SSB Goku level while Gohan was taken care of pretty quick by SSB Goku so Toppo probably.
