I've been trying to think of ways to justify android 17 being somewhat on Goku's level. 1. We are told the 17/18 generation of androids have "limitless" power, meaning they do not experience fatigue. This could mean a lot of things, but one of the most directly apparent is the fact that they could basically train continuously for years and never actually stop. I think we could safely assume that would allow an android to train for 24 hours per day instead of, being generous, 8 hours. So we can assume an android could increase their power at 3x the rate, all other things held constant, purely from a sleep and fatigue perspective. 2. Unlike 19/20, they are made of an organic material that is styled after biological cells, allowing them to be assimilated into Cell. From this, we are basically told that androids are some kind of incredibly advanced lifeform. When you factor in the other amazing things Gero pulled off, it feels entirely feasible that 17 and 18 are similar to Frieza and his clan. I think it's entirely reasonable to assume 17 could train much more rapidly than Goku. If we are feeling particularly generous, it could be possible that the reason the androids do not have detectable power is because they use an energy similar to god ki. Not to say they were some kinda SSB thing in the cell saga, but similar to shin, they could have a totally different form of power, capable of growth like all the others, without being detectable. It doesn't seem to be a simple matter of power where at one point you become godlike. If that was the case, Shin would not be total dog shit. With that said, it is entirely reasonable to suggest 17 and 18 are some kinda form of life even greater than the Frieza clan. By that logic, and considering the fact that 17 and 18 can not detect energy, it is totally possible that android 17 was actively training and increasing his power even during the events of the Buu saga. He may have actually had no idea anything was happening until the planet started getting wild. It doesn't look like 18 was training much, but if we assume my two assumptions above, the idea of 17 being somewhat close to Goku is believable. If Toppo and Hit managed to hit a level that can at least give Goku a challenge, android 17's uniquely excellent physiology should give him the ability to catch up very quickly. | ||
