This whole thing is silly. No matter how much experience Roshi, Krillin or Tien have, let's face it, they pale greatly in power to either Goten or Trunks. Given, this is a team tournament but I'm sure in some areas, Goten and Trunks can be more helpful and I would've preferred them being in than at least Roshi.
As for the recent episode, I'm on the fence. It wasn't a bad watch and at least Krillin won by using a surprise move on Gohan but the scene on the rooftop was a bit odd. I'm sure Goku was holding back but seems a bit silly to have Goku actually have him kamehameha wave pushed back. Like, the guy at his base form is far stronger than Krillin due to constant training and with SSJB, he can literally breath on him to beat him lol. Could've been worse I guess

All I remember is him trying the usual technique that at least pushed back Cell when he was in his second form (he did 0 when Cell was in his perfect form) and that same technique did nothing to Buu. Buu actually smiled while Tien sat there all confused that it did nothing lol. Given, from the current adult fighters, I would say Tien is behind Piccolo but ahead of Krillin and Yamcha.

Gohan and Buu are less powerful but they are still pretty damn strong. Buu has impressive endurance and abilities. Gohan has the same potential as Vegeta and Goku but merely needs more practice.
17 and 18 are pretty strong while having certain useful Android abilities - probably most notable is the Android Barrier technique. Also they are a natural team.
The other four - Tien, Krillin, Piccolo, and Roshi - are experienced fighters with a long history. They might not be the most powerful but each of them has some combination of powerful abilities and experience to bring to the table. Piccolo and Tien have impressive endurance for characters so outdated. Krillin is a pretty sneaky mofo. And Roshi, as he demonstrated when fighting as Jackie Chun, is ancient but keeps up by leveraging his skill.
What do Trunks and Goten add? They are neither particularly powerful nor experienced. Goku said it best: "their fighting style is too predictable and straightforward." They add nothing. are people forgetting the buu tournament, and how they agreed to not go ssj, so that everyone else (within their group) could stand a chance, krillin even mentions it, and that tournament was very normal with the ring out being a condition. Basically they were saying that regardless of tatics for peope like krillin, tein, yamcha theres no way they can budge a ssj (which is consistant to everything we've seen).
Someone mentioned that yes these super powered beings can be hurt if they let their guard down, but its a tournament they will be fighting and if they do lose a lapse in concentration, they surely fair better than krillin and co who in all seriousness will practically die. Andriod 20 and 19 being perfect examples of when those characters were outclassed heavy, even when they all had been training full time in preparation of the fight. Tactics can help when people are closely matched but i trunks and goten are still sayians they are unbelievably powerful compare to the others.
Trunks and goten probably spar infrequently but enough, they're close in power lvl so that theres improvement from battling each other, but krillin has been fighting humans that he clearly outclasses if anything it probably makes him a worse fighter. Its like two B- players fighting each other every thus improving and learning, while a C class player keeps smashing D- noobs, whos going to get better over time
Regardless they've gone with what they've gone in the show but this is a discussion thread...

Krillin has fans because he managed to get Android 18.

Who is Android 20 and 19? Is that GT?

The only team member I'm unhappy with is actually Roshi, because the power difference even between him and the next weakest member of team Universe 7 (be it Krillin or Tien) is already absurd. At least Krillin and Tien have shown that they can think of ways to fight against far, far stronger opponents (at least long enough to stall). Roshi hasn't really ever gotten himself involved in serious fighting since the original Dragonball (except that one time against the bottom of the barrel soldiers of Frieza's army).
In Krillin's case, the Solar Flare and Destructo Disk (which was able to cut off Frieza's tail even though the gap in power was already immense even before Frieza transformed further). In Tien's case, he managed to stall semi-perfect Cell with his Neo Tri-Beam. All the Androids and Piccolo were far stronger than Tien, but compared to him, they got nothing done.
So basically, I can see Krillin and Tien being useful (not against the Toppo level opponents obviously but those are far and few between), but Roshi is just too unbelievable.

My fanfic about Roshi's participation in the tournament would be something like this:
Somehow Roshi is split from the group. He is close to the edge of the arena where he sees female Broly beating some scrubs. As she casually carries the last guy to the edge and throws him off we have one of those "cool anime shots" where you realize someone is standing behind you. It's Roshi all muscled up. He tells her that she may be powerful, but she is inexperienced for allowing herself to be cornered like that. She laughs, of course, replying that someone like him couldn't budge her an inch. She even takes a step back, so she is right on the edge, challenging him to give her his best shot. Roshi looks all serious, maybe strikes some martial arts poses and than grabs her boobs, which causes her to lean back / take a step back and since there is no flying outside the ring she can't recover and falls out. Roshi falls out as well, because he doesn't want to let go of her boobs. haha
Ofc she could swat him away like a fly, but hey, we don't know what her personality is like.
And if we take it even further. While they are falling she hits him literally drilling him into the side of the ring. The tournament continues until it's only Goku and Jiren left (for example). The time limit runs out and Universe 7 is declared the winner surprising everyone. Than the Grand Priest informs them, that technically, Master Roshi is still inbound. Similar to the way he saved himself in his tournament fight against Goku in Dragonball.
In a seriousness though, I wouldn't be too surprised if Master Roshi ends up being one of the last people standing through some comedic events.
edit Oh my God I swear I didn't see the previous post when I was writting this lol

Legit I like Roshi better than Krillin for this tbh. Either way they are both outclassed huge in power, Krillins bit of extra power doesn't mean anything, Roshi has hundred of years of knowledge, expertise to add in. If you're going for brain over power, Roshi is better than Krillin. To someone like Toppo or basically anyone in this tournament, the power difference between Roshi and Krillin literally means nothing. So Roshi should do just as well if not better than Tien an Krillin. I expect some sneaky as fuck Ring outs from Roshi.

The other thing is that this isn't all about power, that not everyone is as strong as Hit/Goku/Vegeta/Toppo/etc from every universe, and you need a group that works effectively together. Roshi, Krillin, and Tien they have all worked with many times before and they will likely be able to make a lot of effective strategies together.
I'm going to say that I'm thinking female Broly comes from U6 since Vados clearly thought that he had some ace up her sleeve for the tournament.

I'm so sad our universe killed its Broly ((

No, they aren't canon. I don't believe many/any of the movies are.

I guess where I'm coming from, if Broly is in another universe, pretty fucking weird for Broly to not be canon.

I'm ok with leaving Broly and all other movie-only characters as "ambiguously canon" and thinking no further on it.
|
Movies don't even fit in the timeline.

They take place in alternate realities I think. Lord Slug and Cooler seem to be in a reality where the spirit bomb killed Freeza.

Thinking too hard into it, it's just some extra fights to make more money, nothing more nothing less. Toryama only had some design inputs on some movies.
I guess you could think of them as "what if?" scenarios.
Still, for me it's cannon if it was in the manga, everything else is just simple entertainment bucks. Not that it is bad.

I still do not understand how the "Universe", we can only reside to Earth?!@?!?! Why not head to the Namakians planet where they have their elite soldiers to overpower Roshi...Cmon...
