What is your favorite Comic Book Hero?
Why?

To get started;

My favorite Hero ; The New 52. Aquaman
Why; Aquaman has a generally young storyline and has a lot of room to expand and become better, and is almost untimely unexplored potential. The New 52 story has blew new life into him as he is devolving a nice storyline, with a lot of opportunity to intertwine with the Justice League and The Others (which it already has).
If anyone has questions about Aquaman, I think I could answer a few.

It doesn't have to pertain to DC or Marvel, can be any comic book character.

My fav comic book EVER has still got to be Sin City by Frank Miller. That man is a genius with a story & some noir-looking visuals. If you like mobsters killing bad guys in black & white extreme contrast, you'll like basically any of the Sin City graphic novels (there's like 15 of them).

I guess the best hero would be the old guy who sort of looks like Bruce Willis, the one who kills the young evil guy who is attacking his daughter.. that was a great storyline & a really good read IMO

Sin City is awesome. I prefer comics much more than manga. But comics seem like difficult to be found.
I strongly recommend a good tool to read comics: Zingbox. A reader app, you can find various comics in it.

I want to try and revive this thread. Recently I've been getting into comic books, recently inspired by last year's Into the Spiderverse and the Spider-man game for the PS4. It's also kinda appropriate given the Marvel sponsorship of TL =D

It was always a very daunting task to me because it's so hard to follow comics as opposed to manga, which is what i'm used to. Especially Marvel since pretty much everything is canon in their weird sliding timeline.

This video helped me out a lot:

DC and Marvel each have their online subscription service with an awesome backlog of stuff now, so its nowhere near as bad to get into, as opposed to like fifteen years ago.

Anyway, there's apparently a really awesome comic writer named Jonathan Hickman, and he's completely revamping the X-men storyline to get it back to form with two books called House of X and Powers of X. So that's what I'm reading of the new stuff, in addition to reading The Eternals, because thats the next MCU movie I'm kinda excited to watch.

Spawn was my favorite.. I liked Wolverine and X-Men too and went through a Silver Surfer phase. There was this one comic called Zen the Intergalactic Ninja too which I liked. I miss the days of going to the comic book store and video rental stores... used to be highlight of my week.

Spawn was where I started getting into comics. I really got pulled in with Image's style. And the Todd Mcfarlne toys!!!

The beginning of Spawn was awesome.

The best comics for me was The Punisher and Silver Surfer from Marvel. Enjoyed Nightwing from DC. But the best comics I read were not published by the major players...

Sandman and Lucifer were bloody amazing.
French series Sillage is superb.
Recently I've discovered the Black Monday Murders from Image Comics and it's also top notch.
Time is precious. Waste it wisely.

I know Spawn's art and character design is absolutely incredible, but is it actually a good story to pick up? Does it hold up?

I got into comics shortly after The Death of Superman. Up until Infinite Crisis I read pretty much all the big DC titles, but I got tired of all the revamps and called it quits before Year One. Now I just read good elseworld stories (Kingdom Come and All-star Superman being my absolute favorites), cba to read normal continuity at this point. Besides DC I've read all Star Wars comics up until Disney took over. Out of those, Old Republic era and Republic Commando are my favorites.Every now and then I would venture out to read some recommended graphic novels from Dark Horse or Image comics like Sin City , Wanted, Black Science etc.

Onthe topic of how to get into comics, well just pick up a title from the start and read it, thats it. The only problem are the long running titles that span multiple revamps and/or continue the story in another title. But those stories are usually released as a TPB at some point, so you can just pick that up.
Smile, tomorrow will be worse

If you have Amazon Prime you can watch the animated series that HBO did. Gives a pretty good taste of the character and story. From what I remember, the quality of the comics was very hit or miss. You had to kind of use your imagination to make a better story than what was presented. In a way that made the experience even better though.

Out of all the New 52 titles I enjoyed Flash, Batman and Aquaman. I agree with Rodrak that there was a lot more room of creative freedom for the character and boy did the writters took advantage to that title, all the characters and storylines(big of small) were phenomenal in its run.

I enjoyed 2(actually 3 but I will explain) titles in recent years, Dr. Aphra from Marvel is a brilliant take on the Star Wars universe, the moral ambiguity within a conflicted character was unbelievably mesmerizing to read. In August this year Marvel launched a twin series House of X and Power of X, the sheer amount of creativity and accumulated depth of decades of world building, is absolutely blowing my mind and I strongly recommend both titles to everyone.

Kindle Unlimited has a lot of comic books on it. The death of superman is easily my favorite. I remember reading that as one of the first big books (even if it was a graphic novel) that I ever read. Real simple execution, Build up a big bad that obliterates everyone like they're nothing then have him fight the biggest good guy you've got. The art is fantastic and the death of god as a narrative concept is incredible. I just wish they had more patience before bringing him back.
A wise man will say that he knows nothing. We're gona party like its 2752 Hail Dark Brandon

My favourite is Iron Man, specifically because of the Matt Fraction run that I got into in 2008-09. Was a really great series, especially after the Secret Invasion storyline - great writing & art! Fraction & Aja's run on Hawkeye from 2012 is also incredible! Also really loved Dark Avengers by Bendis/Deodato, great art & story with Norman Osborn firing the old Avengers & secretly replacing them with a new super-group of villains taking up the mantle of the Avengers with the same hero names and all, but it only ran till about issue #15 or so. DC's Blackest Night mini-series by Geoff Johns was amazing and a lot of fun as well, a lot of great comics in the summer/fall of 2009 tho!
There is nothing to see here. x)

I remember the 2012 Hawkeye run, from its artstyle to the character focused take it was a joy to read. I felt Dark Avengers had great potential that went untapped, Sentry was frankly quite boring and I thought they could've explored team dynamic among them a bit more. My favorite iron man was the Extremis storyline.

Geoff John's legendary run in Green Lantern was mesmerizing, it expanded and established the world of green lantern methos so well.
