This manga deserves a thread

Ashita no Joe, (Tomorrow's Joe, also known as Rocky Joe or simply Joe) ran a looong time ago (1968-1973), is pretty famous, but only has now just finally been scanlated in English. This post by the scanlator does a lot more justice to the series than I can. The title character Joe, is a delinquent turned boxer. But this manga is limited to boxing just as much as Adachi Mitsuru's works are restricted to baseball (which is to say, they're not whatsoever).
I don't know exactly what else I have to say in this thread, but that this is a MUST READ. Ashita no Joe has been referenced in numerous mangas (although I can only remember two off the top of my head...)

And there's another series in which a character borrows a volume of Ashita no Joe from another but I can't remember... Though Ashita no Joe was a giant hit in Japan, + Show Spoiler +
I mean, THERE WAS AN ACTUAL FUNERAL FOR ONE OF THE CHARACTERS
I personally read this in one night. The first part (it literally says end of part 1) would be a 10/10. Then I'd say there was a bit of a lull in for a few volumes and then was a bit on and off (it's sort of a blur to me) with the second half rounding out to be more 9/10 ish. Spectacular ending of course! Even if you're familiar with it (which evidently lots of people are?) the series is still absolutely worth reading through.
